I cannot believe how a sweet little animal like this guinea pig can be just dumped like this. At least Saskia and her team can set him on the right path to a good forever home

Poor piggie! He’s got broken/split hair strands and red feet with too-long nails and hidden bite marks… Poor little guy! Thank goodness you’re too kind hearted to throw your hands up and walk away. Amazing hearts, everyone at the rescue. 💕

Size absolutely matters with GPs. They love their home. I had hamsters as a child. They tried to escape their enter life. GPS are different, they love their homes. They rarely try to escape.

I just don’t understand… They are a part of the family! I had my guineas for about 14 years. And that was in the 2000s when there was very little info on Guinea pigs out there.
Well they weren't giving him the appropriate care. At least they abandoned him at a rescue and didn't just set him free or something else stupid.

Glad Ya'll found the poor baby in time. Sad so many people do this but glad he is safe now and will be given lots of love and care.💕. I just ordered some by piggies choice mulberry snacks by accident from my moms amazon, but instead of canceling the order. I just gave her the money to cover it. It said it will get here free of delivery on Thursday the 10th,. As far as writing a review for this. It's going to depend on Beavis and Nacho. I'm going to make a video of it the day this product gets here. I'll make a video and we'll see what happens. Hopefully they love them. If not I guess we'll find out soon enough. I'm going to let my pigs be the Judges. As for that piggy? I'm so glad his story has a happy ending💯 🐹🐹

I don’t think people realize how precious Guinea pigs are I spent hours teaching my family how people take Guinea pigs for granted I know the people who left the Guinea pig probably was in a difficult situation but it just tears me down, I sometimes think my Guinea pigs could have it better but then I realize I adopted them and gave my three female Guinea pigs a huge cage with a glass fence and eight hides and fresh different types of vegetables every morning and at dinner time but it just makes me so happy to give them the life they deserve and a bunch of hay and luxury pellets and I pet them every day and I let them run around my safe checked room and you really see what a difference it makes to give them good lives, so if u want a happy Guinea pig give them ur best care ❤😢

That uneven look to the coat, I was taught that that is called "staring" - "that cat's not well, his fur is staring". I remember that word being used when I was growing up and we noticed a pet was not ok.
Every time one of my babies dies, a Part of me dies with them and I cry&grief for months. And then theres people who just throw them away like common trash😭😭. I hope he will have an awesome life from now on, sweet little potatoe 🥰😍
I love how you can learn to take control and nit be scared to cut their nails and grab them that’s my goal for when I am older and be a vet!

Glad you found this handsome guinea pig in time to care for him and then he can be adopted out with another guinea pig he bonds with to a family who will love him and give him proper care. I also agree that cage he was in was way too small. When I 1st had a guinea pig, I had just one. After he passed away at old age and reading and learning, I got 2 guinea pigs and have not regretted it. They are herd animals and need that companionship of each other. I also upgraded my cage to a cage recommended by you Saskia. It is the mid western habitat.
2 males in that cage is a recipe for disaster! He got off pretty well, injury-wise, all things considered.

This is so sad!! So many people have that cage and feel completely offended if you tell them they need a bigger cage or have two pigs.
Sorry to change the subject , can you please a video talking more about the calcified bulla syndrome. The contagious aspect, signs and symptoms, causes and care and also how to prevent the spread . Also how to introduce a rescue pig to a healthy herd safely. I read the article you wrote in Guinea Pig mag and seen all the videos about it but I was just hoping you could go more in-depth on it all. Thank you!!

I had to do a double take that looks like my guinea pig Finn! Finn is safe and sound with me for the last 4.5 years (had him since he was 6-8 weeks old) but I watching the video and I'm like Finn you have a twin! Same markings on the face and behind the head, same color, only one difference is Finn has a second color on his side. I hope this little guy finds a good home! I wish people would stop abandoning animals outside. Its becoming a more common practice.
Enough with the dumping of animals.

helo saskia we had a cage like that(without stage) but only for sleeping time, 22u to 6.30, and during the day they can get outand have romingspace 6 time the cagesize.

I had 2 guineas rehomed to me in the same cage 2 months ago. Of course they had crazy nails, URIs, lice, and one had an eye infection. It broke my heart to see them in such a tiny cage. My mouse's cage is even bigger than that!
I've seen so many videos of people with cages this big, along with photos of people in multiple different guinea pig groups on fb with cages this small.
I'd only ever use that size cage for traveling to a vet appt. And even then I don't know.

I find panels, like C&C but probably storage cubes, that work great. They are cheap and you can zip tie them into any size or shape. I have at least 100 panels and don't even have a guinea pig! I have various cages for multiple small animals. I'm always prepared. Going to start fostering soon for one of the local shelters. I'm sure I will fall hopelessly in love with someone and hve to keep them!

It's a good travel cage to the vet or an evacuation emergency. I would save it to use in the future. Sad that people don't want them but they once did and they changed their mind and the animal is the victim.

How do you estimate age by looking? My boy is from a rescue and they said at the time that they were told that he was 2 1/2 to 3, which would now make him 4 1/2 to 5. From his size, weight and appearance when we got him, we doubt that, but he had come from a situation of being introduced to lots of piggies and hating them all, so stress had him not eating and being miserable, so we suspect that he was younger than they said. I really wish I knew how to estimate it better. Even my exotics vet can't estimate it.

Poor little guy. I'm thinking this was a situation where a family had 2 bonded boys who over time started to fight. To separate them they used the carrier cage, the one you saw.

I so rescued 2 very large females pigges. They were in that very same cage. I was sad for my now sweet sweet piggie babies who live in a c&c that could hold 5. I never understand why ppl do this!

Hey Saskia, don't throw out the cage, those work wonderful as carriers, really, I use them when we travel or if I have to take more than one piggie to the vet, for transportation they're great. By the way, Frankenstein??? Why did she came up with that name? Hahaha, at least Frankie sounds appropriate for him, and I did to think he was a boy 🐹😊

@@LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue I’ve heard of rescues encouraging upgrading cage size, by offering a very small discount on a new bigger cage in exchange for the old too small cages. Then using the too small cages as carriers for medical trips or “renting” them out to people to use for vet trips/moving/adoptions. For example, someone brings in their old cage, receives 5% off a new Midwest. Then, in exchange for a monetary/supply donation people can essentially borrow the small cage for a very short amount of time to move their piggy to a new home, go to a vet check up, or just to transfer a new adoption to their forever home. Always under the conditions they have the small cage back at the rescue by a certain time to ensure it’s not stolen for a permanent “home”.
