Thank you Saskia & Dr Nann! I have suspected my boar, Oreo had Satin Syndrome but wasn't sure. He's always walked a little weird on his hind legs but otherwise seemed fine. About a month ago now I thought he had dislocated his hip and took him to the vet's. I had to wait about a wheek! The radiology report said, "bones seem moth-eaten in appearance..." Then you were talking on one of the last few Lives about satin syndrome and it sounded just like my Oreo's symptoms and now with this video...! Wow! I have learned and continue to learn so much from you and the crew Saskia! Thank you sooooooo much for all your love, dedication, and perseverance with helping and educating piggy parents, piggy medicine, and the public!!! You all are awesome!!!! BTW Oreo is on Meloxidyl and is moving around more than ever. Still walks/hops a bit funny but is active!

Your education Works. Serious. This has helped me do a rescue for a little guy.. I knew he was not ok, not comfortable, because of what you show and share. I Knew to take a stand and give him comfort and peace. When I watched this upload my thought was immediately that he, the one featured here in this upload, ought to be put down, because of the situation I had to deal with within the last 3 days. It is cruel to keep them in pain and not able to be the happy guys guinia pigs are known to be like, bobbing there tuffs of hair and self cleaning joy and their little purrs... Quality of Life is VERY important. No animal should be abused and uncared for, and not kept in uncomfortable situations. Poor sweet little gems they are.

I agree whole heartedly. Allowing any being the kindest exit to the next expression of life is THE kindest, most humane thing to do. Keeping this piggie drugged and alive is not the best thing for him. He is incurable on this plane, release him to the non-physical perfection.

We had a little satin girl who had a good 3 years after being diagnosed at 2. Her osteodystrophy manifested in her jaw. She was on metacam and tramadol to keep her comfortable, monthly tooth trimmings and critical care hand feedings. She was the bestest of pigs.
Having a guinea pig savvy vet is so important and we couldn't have given this girl the life she had without our amazing vet. The only regret I have is that I had not found this vet in time to save her sister who had the same disorder but manifested much earlier.

I have a satin with dental disease and i go to one of the best guinea pig doctors in the netherlands, Eva Stoffels! My piggy was always skinny, just 700 grams but now weighs over a 1000! I feed her a mixture of wheatgrass powder, sugarfree soymilk and grind up kibble (thats actually horse kibble cuz its better nutrition wise) all by advise from this vet and Im so happy! she still needs pain meds but I love her so much and hope she keeps doing well! I hope the same for the boy in the video

So very sad the breed should be banned from all areas of the pet trade it should be made illegal to breed and sell as people fall in love with these gorgeous little guys and end up loosing them it is heart breaking! More importantly it is crewel and very unnecessary for an innocent animal to be put through all that pain when there are lots of other breeds to choose from. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us ♥ 👍

My guinea pig looks like he might be a satin, just because how shiny and silky his fur is though its hard to tell because he is so dark, thankfully if he is already a year old and is quite the chonk and eats very well though he's not much for exercise and prefers relaxing to exploring.

Kudos to Saskia for all her work. She goes the extra step for piggies and owners. I have a rescue Satin and when I originally rescued her I was hoping to place her and her companion with a rescue. That changed when I spoke to the rescues in my area and the refused to take Suki, my little satin. They never looked at her or asked for any medical information they just refused to even consider her for rescue/rehoming. I had to do some major scrambling to set up long-term "fostering". 4 babies and two yrs later Suki is healthy and popcorning cutie. She is the leader of our little herd and living her best life. Luckily no sign of having the satin syndrome as yet.

I lost two of my beloved pigs, likely to satin syndrome. Knowledge about this disease should definitely be more widespread. Satin guinea pigs are gorgeous, but it's just in no way worth the harsh price that the pigs have to pay for their genes. I don't want it to turn out like with other types of pets, where certain breeds are bred with all kinds of diseases. It's just not at all fair for the animals.
I wish more people knew about this, so videos like yours mean a lot to me.

The vet is not quiet sure, if she has the bullar syndrome. It could be also a middle ear infection. Erna gets now antibiotics and pain medication. We will see how this will turn out. I think they are banned in Australia or maybe it’s New Zealand. It’s one of those places. Is it really worth having Pigs in this horrible pain so a human can gain points at a show..🐾

Sometimes with these boarders I wonder if in some cases they know their pig is sick and board them knowing they are sick but, hoping you'll take care of whatever's wrong? I mean that may not be the case. I don't wanna judge no one. It just makes me wonder with some cases. Anyway, See you on tomorrows live. I'll be careful Not to make too many timestamps so I don't go over like last time. I'll leave the longer more detailed list of stamps in the comments, but now that I can get back into my email account again.
