The sight of two small crates fashioned into a guinea pig cage /carrier was what we had to deal with first thing in the morning. Thought I'd share a moment that is all too common sadly.

You’re getting beat down, sweet. I can hear it in your voice, your words, your demeanor. No one would fault you but you have taught me and showed so many by example how loving transcendence finds a way. I have a little sicky who has needed me at least 6 times per day for more than a week and my main inspiration is you. My sicky also has a mom and sister so please know how many people and piggies you are helping all the time. STRENGTH, love and light ❤

It's kind of weird - the person who dropped Tater off wanted to show in many ways that they cared for the lil guy but at the same time were so careless with the little guy. I am glad you are always there to help, even when "there is no room at the inn".

Bless him, he even let you stroke/feel him pretty easily. He looks like he will be a very friendly little man ❤
I can see the "every day tough" when a rescue is full but the 'thought balloons Tater had was too funny!!! Some days the crazy humor is the saving grace in the face of heartache

Saskia, thank you for taking in these unfortunately unwanted sweet piggies. Shame on the people who don't have the respect and decency to bring them to you face-to-face, instead of being cowards and leaving these innocent creatures alone and scared, until you find them, hopefully alive. 💗LAGPR💗Saskia💗

I love reptiles and most of the channels feed their reptiles live prey for them and it’s Guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rats etc….

Tater is a very good name. My 1st guinea pig had the name Potato. I shortened it to Tater. This Tater is lucky he found you. He is such a handsome boy.
What I do to name things is take the colors of His fur he has three colors on him so what dose 3 .and me think of and then you on a wild rampage to find a name you like!😁 I do not know if that makes sense but I hope it helps

This is exactly why rescues end up over-filled and under-funded. Places like LAGPR say no to new animals ONLY because they don't have the space/funds to accept any more, but you get people like this person who give them no choice but to take the animal in because it's been abandoned and has no where else to go. I understand being in desperate circumstances, but so is the rescue! Forcing an animal on someone like this is why many rescues have to close and can no longer help ANY animals. They get so far in debt trying to cope with too many animals in an area/facility and too many mouths to feed and must either shut their doors completely or they end up as one of those horror stories you see/hear of.
PLEASE DON'T ABANDON YOUR ANIMALS!!!! And YES leaving them outside a shelter/rescue/someone's house is ABANDONMENT! It's unfair to others who also have legitimate reasons for needing to rehome their animal(s) who are following the rules/protocol set by the rescue and it's most DEFINITELY unfair to the rescue because here's an innocent animal with nowhere to go, who will DIE if left where they are, so they really have no ethical choice but to "try to find a place" for them.
Thank you Saskia and Rescue Workers for always doing the right thing in these situations, even though it's unfair and even though you don't have the space or funds. Somehow y'all always find a way. Here's hoping people will finally understand doing something like this is NOT OKAY.... but somehow I know it will happen again... and again...

I got two piggies a couple weeks ago and they are 2 1/2 years old and found out they would get a carrot once every 2 weeks and very little greens. They now have unlimited hay with there pellets with extra vitamin C and lots of veggies but there very small will they get bigger or have weight put on?
even if i could adopt places wouldn't let me. I'd always have to do a predator swoop and scoop with only one good hand. i can't do much but love on you and them thru the screen sorry

it's so frustrating when people just abandon their pets like that. I mean at least come talk to you face to face and explain the situation but not that it would have made a difference. If the inn is full, it's full.

At least the woman wanted him to have a better life. She says her niece left him behind. This is unfortunately common. Cats as well as birds and small animals left behind when irresponsible people move. Glad he is safe now.

I'm late seeing this video but I wanted to share that I once had a hamster named Tater and think this is an adorable name. My hamster, Tater, was a rescue from my sister who worked at PETCO for 11 years. Tater had had a prolapsed rectum, poor baby. My sister was nursing him back to health but had to handle him with a glove. She told me he was a biter and said they couldn't sell him. He needed a home or he might end up being euthanized. He'd been through so much and she generally loved all the small animals in her care in the PetCo "wellness room." She was not one of *those* PetCo employees. She actually knew what she was doing and did not recommend the useless crap they sold.
I walked in and found a little white hamster who was terrified. I talked softly to him and he stood up on his butt as hamsters do. He cocked his head and had a goofy look on his face from a crooked little mouth. I loved him instantly.
I found a bag of sunflower seeds on the shelf nearby and filled my palm with them. When I started to extend my hand to the hamster, my sister reminded me that he had bitten her. She offered me the glove and I said hell no! That would just scare him more! I've been bitten many times by hamsters. It hurts. But what I DO NOT do is hit them or fling them from me. I let them bite me so they know I won't hurt them. And I expected this hamster to bite me.
I offered him the sunflower seeds and he sniffed my hand. I talked some more to him. Then without hesitation he climbed into my hand and started pouching the seeds. When he'd pouched most of them he decided to eat the last ones and there was that goofy look again. He reminded me of a cartoon hillbilly for some reason and I imagined him in bib overalls with a straw hat. I named him then and there - Tater.
For some reason he trusted me. I pulled him closer to talk to him and offered him more seeds. He just ate calmly and stared at me. My sister, who was genuinely scared of this little dude, instantly dubbed me "the hamster whisperer." From them on when she had a grumpy, bitey hamster - or Guinea pig - in her wellness room she would have me come and adopt him.
Tater was a joy. Despite the prolapse he lived with me for over two years. He never bit me or even hissed at me. I loved him so much and was heartbroken when he crossed the rainbow bridge.
Tater is a fine name for your new piggie. He's gorgeous and looks very sweet. He needs someone to love him. Since this is an old video I have no doubt that you found the right person to love Tater.
You guys are a godsend to Guinea pigs everywhere. Thank you for everything you do.
