Vets do NOT know how to educate their Guinea pig owners about their care. Your education online is really helpful. My vet didn’t tell me about boy Guinea pig care for their boy parts which is extra important.

Usually it's best to take guinea pigs to vets for exotic pets (who treat pets such as spiders, snakes, etc) instead of the regular ones for dogs and cats. Saskia does great work, but she gets things wrong sometimes too.

It’s sad that the bar is so low but let’s appreciate when people take piggies where they think they’ll get taken care of instead of killing them or throwing them in a dumpster as we’ve heard about. Obviously they shouldn’t have signed up for the commitment in the first place but it is the adult thing to do, to admit you’re not capable and give them to someone who is. Cowards wouldn’t try to come up with a solution.

    • @cass7448
      @cass7448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Yeah I'd rather people didn't make a habit of shaming people for this. The important thing is that the pigs get the care they need, and piling onto the former owners will just encourage even worse outcomes.

guinea pigs are high maintainance for a useless rodent that was made for food

    • @lavishlyvice
      @lavishlyvice ปีที่แล้ว +1

They're not being mature at all. If you have to give up your pet, give it to actual people and don't dump it on their front door. The animals can die due to unexpected weather conditions, stress, starvation/dehydration, an illness not being treated soon enough. They've already had guinea pigs freeze to death and die of heatstroke because someone dumped them like this. It's cowardly no matter how you try and twist it.

When saskia say dont do this i think then :don't buy animals! for all the ones who are not able to care of them. That's a thing what should known before to buy some and not after. But i think the most people who's watching this are responsible owner who would never do something like that. And who does should pay a lot of money for the rescue or shelter where the animals was found or have to help there out to see what they have done and what kind of human they are. Without this people the Shelters and rescues wouldn't be so full and the poor animals would have a lovely home

People are so messed up. I wish we could report all of these people for animal neglect and abuse. We literally can't because if they knew they'd get in trouble they would probably destroy the animal or let it lose in the wild instead of surrendering it. I love how you guys are honest and say what is on your mind. Many animal channels sugar coat terrible pet owners as to not offend anymore.

So glad Izzy found this. I remember you mentioning this on the live last Saturday. This is why I keep suggesting having a night time volunteer If possible or cameras around the property. I feel like something has to be done or this will NOT STOP🛑 But what do I know, maybe there just is no solution. I just HATE the thought of another pig dying from the cold and sitting in a filthy cage. Is there nothing at all you can do about this. If you have someone you can trust to guard your property at night at least take in a guinea pig dump when it happens or something. I just don't want to see another pig die like that poor one that froze to death. This is also very sad seeing the condition the pig was in.🐹🐹

I understand you wanting a camera, but cameras are deterrents against people entering the property if they seen one in the first place. What happens if someone who wants to give up their piggies sees the camera, and doesn't want to be identified but has no other choice but to place the guinea pigs into better care? Some might just leave and abandon them somewhere where they'll die for sure, or kill them themselves. Yes they've arrived in bad conditions, yes some have not survived, but isn't the guarantee of knowing Izzy will get them care better than never knowing where the piggies end up?

See the problem is people think animals are animals and they need to be treated like animals as longest they have a place to sleep food and water besides that they are so cute yes definitely any animal are cute when they are babies but remember people to please use your brain and know that these babies are going to grow and the bigger they get the more responsibilities and once they become more responsibilities and gets harder for you to handle does not gives the right to abandon them please before you get an animal think use your brain cells and know that having its ok but they are alot of responsibility time consuming and sometimes expensive if you not ready PLEASE DONT GET any, I have 2 dogs 4 cats 3 turtles 1 geico 2 guinea pigs and fish with some friends inthe tank yes from time to I get frustrated specially with the pigs they demand alot constantly but at the end of the day these are all my babies and I make sure they are all well taken care of day and night I brought it into my life now they are my responsibility the dogs and cats have the house and the piggies a room just for them they are all happy and fat 😊

I don't think that will work. I think if we do not control the surrender process I do believe that sadly
it will be going to get out of hand real fast. We receive 15 calls a day about surrenders a day. In order to distinguish between a hoarder and true rescue is; when to say no. And know how far your budget is going to last, what is feasible how many animals can you provide with high quality care. We know what out limit is.

    • @marionphillips5485

Saskia I understand. I do animal rescue and I know how many animals are sent to a shelter. What if you put up a sign telling them what you told us? Maybe if they understood the other options and dangers they would take the pigs to the shelter. Maybe it will slow it down.

Such lovely boys ❤️❤️ I couldn’t imagine leaving them out in the cold, at night 😭 so many other options and that’s one of the worst :(
Standing in their own excrement because there’s no absorbency beneath them…. In a flimsy, light carrier that provides basically no protection from the elements, in an area with coyotes…at night when they may not be found until many hours later 😞 How is that better than going to a shelter? An unlikely risk of the shelter euthanising is much better than a risk of them being brutally eaten or freezing to death :/
Izzy has earned all the late nights out he wants I think 😜

The previous owner trusted you to care for them, and wanted the best for them. The trouble they went to was to bring them to you. The action of abandon wasn't appropriate yet I personally feel some form of "love" could be behind the dump for Joey and Chandler are in the BEST of hands. The writing of the note, perhaps a child or a limited individual? Mind you, I tend to have my own way of seeing things yet I do not see malice in this abandon. Thank you Saskia for being who you are. When the rescues start judging = rescue burnout. We’re all to blame as our societal sees everything as a profit not a living being.
Info should be posted at the common abandonment areas as so many other rescues do.
Start judging and desperate people will make more desperate- usually terrible choices. Which usually doesn’t bode well for the animal.
    Take care, stay safe.

I think cameras might not only save a pig being dumped but they might reveal something interesting like it turns out to be someone who's been ton her rescue before. Maybe not but having some cameras is better than doing nothing and just keep letting people dump pigs off.

We have two males who absolutely love each other. Very protective of one another. Our original was piggy smalls and then we got little Theo because piggy smalls didn't have a personality so we figured having two would help him to either warm up or develop one. Well once we got a new guinea pig for him he screamed he was so happy. Them two were love at first sight. It was one of the most beautiful moments ever. I'm so glad I was able to make piggy not so depressed. He's a different man now lmao. Don't let nobody tell you males don't get along or can't because they can. My piggy smalls was grown already a little over six months old and the baby we got well he was a baby baby. If your guinea pig starts off as lonely which mine did just us and my dogs and cats who he bonded with so fast. Was weird but all my cats and dogs accepted them as family and loves them so much. They treat them like their babies. But if they are already lonely nine times outta ten they won't care the gender of the other as long as they have a companion

Oh wow. I wondered what the title meant by "Dumps". Thought it was going to be about pooping or something lol. But that is really bad. Hope the ppl are really in dire straits to have to do this. But humans need to learn responsibility for pets, seriously...

At least they dropped them off. Shaming people the way he did at the beginning of this video is going to detour people from dropping them off. Should be welcoming to anyone taking the time to drop them off.

Teach people to have pets they can afford; it takes responsibility and love to have any type of pet friend. Small pets do grow and take up space. Think before you adopt or purchase.

Thank you for your help! Unfortunately a lot of shelters euthanize a lot of the animals they get due to lack of room. Its sad. I just hope one day, animal breeding of ALL SPECIES AND BREEDS WILL BE ILLEGAL!!!! Breeding for profit is disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to anyone reading this comment, Please spey and neuter your babies!!!!!!! It will also increase their value of life. Have a wonderful day y'all!!!

Just an idea but can someone do a night shift and go out to check and see if anyone left a piggies outside. Also maybe a box that you can put them in like a baby box. Atleast then they r not left in the cold.

Well they're not free to keep and if people are on hard times i think feeding you're or family would come above caring for any pet. and its better they took them to somewhere they'd be loved rather than just letting them die somewhere isn't it? They look plump juicy and cared for in a lot of ways. We don't know their owners situation. It mightve broke their hearts to give up their gorgeous boys but it mightve been the only solution

    Saskia ,
It’s appropriate that you named them Chandler and Joey because the lyrics to I’ll be there for you by The Rembrandts suits their life and getting help from the la guinea pig rescue .
“It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear, when it hasn’t been your day, your 🐹Wheek🐹, your month, or even your year. But, I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.
I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before, I’ll be there for you, cause you’re there for me too.”
❤️🐹 Best wishes to Joey and Chandler. Such Beautiful boys.
😢Sad to see their living conditions and Chandler going in there on his own, you know that was their cage. 😢
You are going to have better days ahead now. 🐹❤️

The main thing is if someone is going to drop an animal off at a shelter, do it during the day not at night like a scared dog, it could be dangerous for the animal.

I would make the suggestion of possibly getting a camera if you don't have one facing the outside of the gate. Soham people come by and they abandon their guinea pigs you can get them on camera and catch them in the ass and then you can identify them and go through the proper procedures and find out why they did it. Guinea pigs aren't that big of an animal. I don't really think they eat a whole whole lot me they eat but hey is something that you can make yourself you could grab grass and let it dry on its own and use it. That's not that expensive.
