Catania is my favorite place in Italy. We were there last year and completely fell in love immediately. The family owned restaurants, the streets, the people, the culture- everything was just perfect. We've also hicked Etna and explored a cave, which was super fun. Definitely wanna visit Catania again!!!

The Catania Market!! We love Sicily. Lived there for 2 1/2 years…it was awesome. Caltigirone is an awesome city too.. just one terrific Island. 💕

Will be taking an extended family trip in June to Sicily. Our grandparents came from Sicily in the early 1900s and so many of the cousins are gathering for this 10 day trip. We will be flying into Catania, and visiting Ragusa, Montallegro and Palermo… can’t wait!

I visited Catania about 5 years ago for 4 days. It was super. I took two cooking lessons and walked all over the city. The pistachio pesto was one of my favorite dishes that I had there. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories.

The last time I was in Sicily, I wanted to stay in Catania, BUT Mt. Etna had just erupted and the city was covered in smoke and ash. You could barely see (or breathe). We ended up staying in Messina instead. So I was especially happy to watch this video-thanks!

It's not that bad, you can definitely breath but yes you have to take care for your eyes especially when it's windy.
Volcanic ashes in your eyes is not a pleasant situation. I speak from experience 😅

I visited Catania in 1990 when I was in the Air Force. I was stationed on the island of Crete and travelled there to do some communication work for the Air Force. thanks for visiting us! Glad you had a good time. One culinary experience you missed out on though is the horse meat culture. A lot of foreigners are put off by just how much of a big deal horse meat is in Catania but it's delicious. Driving down Via Plebiscito around lunchtime, getting all those roasted meat smells through the windows is sooo worth it.

We were in Catania this past November and stayed a couple of streets over from where you stayed. We only found one restaurant where the food wasn't very good (the pasta was crunchy and not cooked). I didn't choose it but it was also against my rule of "No English Menu". It was on one of those left turn side streets after the fish market but before the Piazza. Otherwise, we loved Catania.

My Father was a Canadian Soldier who was in the Italian Campaign. They landed in Scilly and then fought there way up the boot to Ortona. Ortona was street to street fighting and was considered one of the worst battles of the war, earning the reputation of “Little Stalingrad.” They we’re fighting elite German paratroopers. That’s where my Father was wounded and lost five of his friends. If he were alive today he would be amazed by all the food. Mostly the people were starving and many emigrated to Canada.🇨🇦

    Nice to see you back!
I am Napolitan my parents came to America in 1965. Growing up there was always a rivalry between us Napolitan’s and the Sicilians. And for me I was told growing up ….never trust a Sicilian and those are words I live by to this day and every interaction with them had always lead to that being so true time and time again. From coworkers to past friends.
And we grew up knowing they aren’t “real” Italians as a lot of them have African blood in them. Still true. When I say don’t trust them, I mean they are sneaky and two faced. And you have to really be in an Italian neighborhood and around them to understand.

I must've gone in all the wrong directions. I was fairly sketched out in Catania. Several locations where I felt uncomfortable walking at night, and nearly nowhere I'd feel good leaving a car. I was enchanted by the rest of the eastern coast (siracusa, Taormina, messina), but the charm of catania eluded me.

If you foreign people ever get the chance to come to Italy you will be positively surprised about how fish and vegetables taste way better than in many other countries.
Basically we treat and cook them so differently, we add spices and herbs so all this gives a better result to the same product you were disappointed about back in the years. 😁
