There is a leafcutter ant colony behind my house, i thought they ate the leaves and grass, its nice to know that they actually are feeding a fungus that they can eat later.

The marijuana plant leaves do not contain much THC (the psycho active thing in weed) even then unprepared marijuana does not affect the human body. You have to put it through a process called de carbing. Basically you heat it so you are able to digest it. Smoking marijuana heats it as it turns into smoke so you do not have to “cook it”. Even then I do not know much about ants or how they digest anything but if I had to put money on it I would say they would look the same.

I wasn't thinking an ant vs human thing, more like a planet that is dominated by an ant species or millions of years after humans go extinct and leaf cutter ants have evolved into the dominate species.

Ties they probably found it growing on some rotten bark probably as a normal edible fungus, and then evolved together into a niche species of ants and fungus. (My best guess)

Hey AntsCanada, when you said that they use Fluon to keep the ants out, why don't you use that for your ants? Then you don't have to replace the baby powder in your ant containers every few months like you said in a earlier video.
TarantuLando CalCuLingus Have you not realized that almost every single video has the ants escape or almost escape? Also did you not realize that it is a slippery surface that you most likely do not have to replace after awhile plus they have a moat that will keep the ants out that you won’t really have to change the water until it either starts to have a lot of ants or the water evaporates.
The leafcutter colony in Albuquerque's "Bug-arium" is probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen. Their tree is in a different room and a vine connects the tree to the colony's nest and it's completely out in the open. The ants also use the refuse from groups of mole rats to fertilize the fungus. It's awesome. Might even be worth a trip out to the US to visit the "Bug-arium".
I would absolutely love to see these guys in action. It super cool how they cut the leaf & carry them back to the farm. its almost amusing to watch when the movie is sped up.

You should turn one of your condos into one of these set up.
buy a house and make it an ant farm :D THE WHOLE HOUSE!!!
MetungKP LoL.... agree!!!!!
I keep watching these after randomly being led by TH-cam and now cant stop. Not sure how i feel about it but that’s ok. A dude so excited and informative about ants is kind of awesome
How do they keep alates from escaping?
Joe Higashi I totally forgot to ask Dominic. I will find out! I was also wondering this.
I like the idea of watching you ants via web cam, you could rotate inbetween each of your setups 🙃
Wait, what happend to this channel? Last time i watched was quite a while back, but holy hell! Hd camera with proper focus? Check. Social media platform links? Check. Very good editing and soundwork? Check. Narration recorded with high quality microphone? Check.
Really good work, keep it up!
Thank you!
I've personally seen this leaf cutter ants colony and it was awesome on so many levels!
Hey, you know they cut leaves with their jaws, but not like scissors it’s more like a razor blade. Which is pretty cool, you’d think otherwise
+Jason Perez Amazing right? And to think they carry these massive pieces back home! Incredible.
Jason Perez yeah we have seen coyote get bit by one on youtube
AntsCanada indeed!
itsreal martinez yeah, I saw the video after. They bite HARD!
AntsCanada yup
Hey AntsCanada, when you said that they use Fluon to keep the ants out, why don't you use that for your ants? Then you don't have to replace the baby powder in your ant containers every few months like you said in a earlier video.
Benji Wong he won’t have content
Carson P you have to replace fluon just like baby powder, and baby powder is cheap compared to fluon. Any more genius responses?
TarantuLando CalCuLingus Have you not realized that almost every single video has the ants escape or almost escape? Also did you not realize that it is a slippery surface that you most likely do not have to replace after awhile plus they have a moat that will keep the ants out that you won’t really have to change the water until it either starts to have a lot of ants or the water evaporates.
wait I'm just a lil bit confused, is Mikey bustos antscanada
Aron Nelson yes
Yes he is
Thats why his voice is so familiar.
He has a vlog on TH-cam, the link will be in the description or on the channel list of his home page. It's great fun!
He is
Amazing, they actually link to this video on their site.
Is it weird I'm seeing u on animal planet lol ur ant nest are on there so is the black army
how is the spreading prevented in the antarium? Don't leafcutter ants have nuptial flights?
R Won I was wondering this as well but completely forgot to ask Dominic about it. I will find out!
It is probably because they don't get environmental signals like high humidity
Don't these kind of places have areas where you are checked for anything trying to hitch a ride and escape?
Diamond Skye kkkkkkk
THIS REMINDS ME OF BUGS LIFE
The leafcutter colony in Albuquerque's "Bug-arium" is probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen. Their tree is in a different room and a vine connects the tree to the colony's nest and it's completely out in the open. The ants also use the refuse from groups of mole rats to fertilize the fungus. It's awesome. Might even be worth a trip out to the US to visit the "Bug-arium".
I really like your videos, it’s really cool to watch the ants work
What does the Insectarium do when there are leafcutter alates? Won't they be able to fly out? This is probably a stupid question haha
+Rookspirit I actually don't know!
a very good question actually.
They kill them?
I would suspect conditions are never quite right for them to fly
Rookspirit maybe they enclose the entire exhibit so they can only stay in that designated area?
I saw those ants carrying that huge leaf four times. Please somebody help them!
I would absolutely love to see these guys in action. It super cool how they cut the leaf & carry them back to the farm. its almost amusing to watch when the movie is sped up.
