Great choice, another one of my all time faves, Wilcox is his own man and style. "Do the Bearcat" is another classic as is "Bad Apple" I believe it's called. This song feels like a perfect Riverboat song. I believe this guy is from Montreal.
I was surprised to see this is the only reaction video to this song, I wonder if youtube often blocks it due to the lyrics? I don't know, just spit balling. I very rarely drink alcohol so I certainly don't smoke or put illicit poisons into my body, but the groove and impression of this song is perfect for the title regardless of some lyrics and how they might be interpreted. It's unfortunate that more youtubers haven't listen to his stuff. This is my fave from his, but he has some other songs that maintain that jazz/swing influenced sound. I'm not even sure how to categorize him he just grooves with his band and the choruses ring out.
This is a deep dive into CanCon. David Wilcox has been a Canadian institution forever. When we.lived in NY, my kids always asked why we only heard David when we were at our cottage in Canada. I took them to see David at the Kee to Bala in cottage country and they loved it!
Been watching David Wilcox perform for at least 40 years. He’s a big favourite here in Kitchener Ontario and a great blues artist that can still bring the house down. Lots of good suggestions here for songs to check out, though I’d opt for “Hypnotizing Boogie” next.
Downtown Come Uptown, The Bearcat, Bad Apple, Hypnotizing Boogie, Cheap Beer Joint. Wilcox has such a great catalog and what a performer! He's another one of those 'Ultimate Canadian Bar Bands' that doesn't play bars.
We use to follow David around Southern Ontario back in the mid to late 80s not stop party drinking in the bars while watching this guy play his ass off he has a ton of great songs do a deep dive into one of our Canadian hidden Gems.
Love it! Wilcox isn't the greatest vocalist, obviously, but an amazing guitarist, and he sets such an incredible groove that you don't care that he can't sing lol. Like most "storyteller" artists, he makes the songs work within the limits of his voice, and the result is always highly entertaining. Saw him live at a music festival in (IIRC) 1996 or 1997. He took the stage just him with his guitar, and a bassist and drummer for backup. I remember wondering why there were only 3 musicians, unlike most bands with 4-5 (a second guitar and maybe keyboards) then slapped my self and thought, "Stupid, why would David Wilcox need a second guitarist?" Riveboart Fantasy, Downtown Came Uptown, and Laying Pipe are the ones that always get me going.

FYI.... there are two David Wilcox... one American and one Canadian. This song is by the Canadian, but your video preview image is the American one. I'm not a fan of this one, but the American David Wilcox is a little known folk artist with some beautiful songs worth checking out.

Pissin Down is a great showcase for her vocals. Actually the whole RATS album is killer and her S.U.N. project is great as well.
