MrAznable Your comment makes me feel great. When I did not think about what you say. Actually, this is a beautiful, full of challenges and dreams time. Greetings from an old man from Santiago.
I listened to this song a lot during a trip I took to Egypt back in the 80s. My gramps, or “old man” as I used to call him, my friend from high school, one of my old man’s friends, a man from France, and myself all stuck together as a group and had many good times there. It was the last time I got to spend with my old man, his friend or even my high school friend come to think of it :(. Me and John became really good friends and still keep in touch to this day. Good grief, this takes me back to the good ole days.
I don't know why, but this song makes me cry... as if it were a last chance to see dear ones, as if it were goodbye... the harmonization touches my heart
The mixture of this wonderful music and the trains make our old friends, melancholy and nostalgia, lull us to sleep and allow us to cry in their lap. And it is there where we reach those who are not by our side. And they come back, and maybe we are happy again. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
This song is very emotional! I remember hearing this melody back in my childhood days, it gives me same feeling of a soft afternoon returning to home from school, or sunday´s granpas visit. It has some melancholy and naif tinge. Lovely!
This song is dedicated to my friend. His name is Seth and is working out his life with stage 4 prostate cancer. Please say a prayer for him even though he is an anonymous figure to you. Thank you.
When I was 10, circa 1988, somebody at school hand me an illustrated ghost stories book. I was scared to death, and afraid to tell to my parents. When the night came, I couldn't sleep, terrified that the ghosts would come for me... finally, after a really horrible night, 6.00AM or something, I turned on the radio, and this incredible song came from the speakers.... and I could relax and sleep... never forget that to this day
Thanks for your comment Philip. You reminded me of my own childhood ghosts, which I never quite managed to leave behind. Even now, when I am at the last bend in my path, they accompany me, only now, as the great Julio Cortazar used to say, I have made them my friends. The song is just perfect. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
I remember when me, a friend from school, my grandfather and one of his friends went all to Egypt to visit my grandfather's friend hometown. So much stuff happened, because we actually couldn't land on Egypt, then we decided to finish the trip on road, then we found this french guy with a dog that joined us. Man, those were the times.
You should not be mad about Jojo fans. You should be happy that good music is being showed to a new generation of kids and teenagers because of this anime. What's the odds of kids these days listen to Yes outside of an anime? It's not the kind of music that plays in radios and tv. Jojo's ftw!
Thanks for your comment. I'm really happy that so many young people, thousands of them, appreciate this song. My whole life has been related to young people, as a father, as a grandfather, as a teacher at the university, as a human being. I appreciate the dreams and admire the strength and determination of the young people. But my experience is a bit different than yours, since I see young people very interested in music, painting, literature and cinema. We are responsible for giving them the means to get closer to art. I sincerely thank you for the comment. Greetings from Santiago de Chile
Lol I’m already a huge fan of jazz and so when I heard this song during the second half of stardust crusaders, I really liked this song and I’m planning on making an arrangement for my school’s jazz combo (which I play drums in)
Thanks for your comment, Tony. Trains have that wonderful quality: allow us to bring back those ghosts waiting us behind the door or in a corner. And we are slaves of those memories, that take us from here to there like dead leaves. I made this video mainly by my own ghosts. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
+Samuel Del Gallo i know right? You really have to stay away from comments with anything jojo related and just watch and read the whole thing as fast possible, its impossible to avoid spoilers unfortunately
So sorry for your loss this song is what true motivation is about and as a child we learn it through the little train that could . I take it your husband was a power house that got things done relished life and you and all he knew respected and loved him for his drive and commitment in all he strived for including your marriage .
Since the next 1000 comments are gonna be all about Jojo, I guess I'll explain. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a long-running Japanese comic that started in the 80s (and is still going on now) that was recently adapted into an anime. The comic is partially famous for the insane number of musical references, and as the author is a huge fan of classic rock and western music in general, the endings of the new anime have been western music. The first ending was Roundabout by Yes, the second was Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles, and this is the third ending.
Pat Metheny is my dad's favorite guitarist and this is one of his favorite songs by him. We listened to this as a family as long as I can remember and it has so many great memories connected to it. What a lovely song, I'm really happy that so many people got to experience it through the JoJo's series.
My Pops introduced me to this Legend when i was 9 years old. It's his birthday today and i miss him with all my being. Oh, the memories of our fathers. There is love here.
it was my dad’s favorite guitarist too and this song was his fave song but he passed away on 10th December 2021 and this song kills me everytime because it reminds me him and every time I cry so much 💙😢 even if I feel him next to me….so keep this song in our heart 💙🙏🏻 because it brings great memories 💙
My cousin Chris turns me on to the best music growing up...so many genre to appreciate...he 4 years older than me but we spent much ti.e together in out 20's...he was killed in bar fight age 36 ..died of head injury...I play this song for him while he was on life support on cassette player....sat with him middle of night few nights after family left...praying he'd make it...this song forever remind me of him...one of many but this one especially..
@@angelicaindelirium Yeah, this song represents many awesome nites in my youth, but it also represents great loss, as you've endured. Every time I hear it, my beard gets soaked with tears.
+97Multiphantom When I made this video, I thought about the things and people that were important in my life and they are not now. Ghosts and memories, laughter and tears, echoes of a wonderful time was on a platform, waiting for the train that returned home. Please live much longer, and in the end we will all on that train. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
I played this everyday on piano the week leading up to the day we had to put our dog we had for 14 years, Max, to rest. We got him when I was 8, so theres not much of my life where Max wasnt there. He grew up with me, saw me through everything, he was my little brother. and no matter how shitty or miserable a day was, whenever i saw Max wag his tail or when i scratched his ears or heard him bark it made me happy and every bad feeling went away even for just that moment. Max always loved listening to piano, and playing this song for him helped me say goodbye for now, until we meet again and i also take my last train home. I love you forever Max
Andie Cayne Yep. Whenever an anime show, in this case JOJO' BIZZARE ADVENTURE: STARDUST CRUSADERS, uses an already existing song it MUST be good (if the anime is good, which JOJO is.) I love anime endings and when it find the full songs I love them even more...
@@julioradrigan I was teenager then this came out. Life was crap, but this went through me. It was like meditation. I will always remember how this gave me focus, resolve, and confidence listening to with walkman. It still does, it's like you're private tune. If that makes sense. This is way music is amazing.
I remember this song so much years ago here in Atlanta there was a smooth jazz station and my mom God bless her soul I would dedicate this song to me because I worked the evening shift and would always be taking the train home., and when she passed for months every time I heard this I would start crying, because of memories now., when I hear it I smile even for just a moment and she made me a Pat Matheny fan for life
I listened to this on Jazz Flavors in Atlanta, too! Waaay back in the day! Always a favorite! I imagine that when you hear it and smile, your mom's smiling, too! ☺️❤️
It makes us all cry.. I used to be a flight engineer on the C-141 Starlifter aflight engineer.. morphe myself into an airline flying Boeing 747 jumbo jet freight cargo airliner, 830,000 lbs brake release out of JFK, 😢 I'm too old to fly anymore according to the FAA. But I travel the world all over. These train remind me of it all. Hauling freight and cargo all over the states and we did it all over the planet. Anyhow, thanks for the video. So cool. We used to be badass of aviation and now we sit here looking at TH-cam. Why the freight haulers and train guys were the bad asses of freight. My great-grandfather was a train guy and my grandfather as a child work it too, back in the early 19 hundreds before the child labor laws. Love it man keep up the good work. We may have to go back to covered wagon and trains and stage coaches but let's keep them rolling. Or put bicycles. Amen 😇✈️😎🇺🇸
"This trip was truly fun, wasn't it?So much happened I swear......These fifty days were really fun." These words hit harder than star platinum's oraora.
First the tune to a Christmas commercial in Florida, now the closing song to a popular anime. Isn't it great when art breathes life back into previous works from the past? Whole new generations will appreciate something from before so many were born now.
I woke up this morning with that commercial in my head. I haven't seen it since I was really little, so I don't know where it even came from. When I found it on youtube and heard the song it gave me the strangest feeling ever. I had to find the complete version!
I finally found this song agan after 35 years ,couldnt rememeber the name, brings back great memories of working construction with my dad in my teens, and this song would come on the mellow music station we would listen to, RIP Dad
This song actually changed my life recently. Thank you. Edit: 1 year later. I'm still being taught. To those who have had an epiphany and gave up on it later.. Please keep believing in the ambition of it and the value of your choice. Continue to live free. And loved. What better outcome could you hope for.
Publix, a grocery store chain based in Florida, used this song in a Thanksgiving commercial on TV. Decades later around Thanksgiving, I pull up this song just to relive the memories. The power of music and good advertising.
There's something about trains. I can watch the train moving by all day long! Whenever I come across a train speeding by it always reminded me of this piece by Pat Metheny. Thank you!
From u.k. A few of us was talking in the pub last week. And one of the lads said what’s the greatest Invention? I said the train has to be in there! near the top. These monsters used to thunder past my mums house. About a quarter of a mile away. They stopped when I was around ten yrs.
I came here because of Jojo, but I liked this song before that. Seeing all the people brought here by their love for PM and JJBA is a beautiful thing. RIP Avdol, Iggy, and Kakyoin #stopkakyoinabuse
Thanks for your comment, Larry. And thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, my mother took the train before the song, but we would certainly have listened together. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.

Have not heard this bad boy in years, always reminds me of my youth. I'm a big train lover and this song is perfect for that long train running. I just love this classic, timeless song....Peace and Love....
Larry Diggs It is a great pleasure to share music, especially with people who feel the same way. Trains and music accompany us until the last day. From Santiago de Chile I wish you Peace and Love. (Sorry my bad English)
Thank you Julio, and your English is perfect. My Spanish is not so good...lol...I have always loved trains and listening to music always makes me feel good. From Virginia Beach, Virginia in the USA, I also wish you great happiness and good health....Peace and Love..
This song is so beautiful it makes me tear up. I love the siund of a train in the distance. I saw him live at Universal Studios many years ago and his drummer deserves a gold metal!

This reminds some of a trip to Egypt with their grandpa during the 80s, and others of coming to Florida for a Holiday dinner furnished by Publix in the 90s.
RIP Lyle Mays. Man this is hard to hear today. I have been a fan of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays since 1978. The White Album on ECM. Thank you Lyle for the great and inspirational music you created.
This song reminds me of a bitter sweet emotion of a man going home after a long and lonely journey. The sound of the train brings hope and anticipation and at the same time inexplicable pathos.
I loved this music ever since I was in elementary school in the 90s, it used to be the Publix thanksgiving commercial song with the mom and child on the train
Today one of my oldest friends passed away. When we were young we did listen to PM a lot, he was the favourit guitarist of my friend and he also was an outstanding fan of steam trains. So it's a must to listen to this great piece of music from Pat with tears in my eyes. Fare well, old friend, on your last train home ❤
RIP Lyle Mays. Your music was so much a part of the 17 years I lived in Yosemite National Park in my younger days. I will never forget the first time I heard San Lorenzo. Thank you for the music my friend; you will be missed.
Imagine a train that can travel from Egypt to Japan: Play this song as we bring Kakyoin's corpse home for a proper burial. Don't forget Avdol's hands and Iggy
And this is what happens when good anime series bring good songs like that. Jojo make me know Yes,The Bangles and now Pat Metheny. This anime is awesome(and stylish) Really, really, its a beautiful song...i will search more about it.
This is one of my favorite old songs...it touches my heart. I saw him in concert many times...this song always brought tears to my eyes! A masterpiece...❤
Funny how all that pollution wasn't a concern but a beauty to witness in a train coming and going. Add Pat Metheny to it and you have a wonderful moment
this song makes me feel like shit. it's not even sad but I want to cry every time I hear it. wish I was in egypt like I was in 1989. reminds me of the friends I made on the journey there.
I came here because of Jojo, though I came here because I liked the music and I thank Jojo for giving me the chance to know new kind of music. I wounder why I didn't know this kind of music. This is great!
As addictively beautiful today as when I first listened while working at a community station in the 80s. A buddy was listening to the month's new albums that came in and came-literally-running to me. "Dude! This is YOU, come into the room and give a listen. You like it as much as I think then you can break it this weekend!" He was a great guy (we later had a show together) and had me pegged right LOL! STILL in love with this...
Thank you for posting this, It reminds me of the last time I heard a Steam engine still at work, late one night after a fine dinner, in a Country lodge back in the 70's. These Engines had souls and personalities back then one could feel as the called out in the far distance. I relive that evening every time I hear this song.
Thank you very much for sharing your comment. I grew up near trains in a small town south of my country and that recorded in every corner of my heart sounds that accompany me even today, 50 years later. there are no trains here, but still dream of that time and the beloved people of that time. This theme of Pat always made me feel a great melancolía and so look for images to share. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
julio radrigan Thank you my friend. I remember a Lodge a family had that only referred Customers were allowed to visit for fine dinners. It was family run and in West Central Alabama, After dinner I went out on the back porch enjoying a full moon over their farmland and having a smoke after stuffing myself on an incredible home cooked Dinner. It was 1975 or so and I heard a distant Steam engine whistle traveling north to south and a unique technique. We had a long way home that evening an my girlfriend an I were in the back seat of here parents car, and they were driving. Later I heard that song for the first time and adopted it as my own. There had been 6 Engineers in my mothers family and a Great Grandfather that was a Confederate Steam engineer was their grandfather during the Civil war in USA. The young men of the family all became Train Engineers starting back in the Turn of the Century and untill the local industry closed after a Century of production. So suddenly so many thing lined up for me when I heard that song. I remember my Uncles telling me how a Steam engine was from an era when such things were alive and deserved respect as such. And how they bonded with their Engines they shared the journey's with. So this song touched my soul when I heard it the first time. It will always be in my heart and soul. Again, I thank you for your lovely post, I had almost lost faith in TH-cam with all the childish people here using it as a way to argue and get attention, And now I can remember the better places here again. May I offer another Artist I enjoy as well? Try some Suzanne Cianni her earlier work, And the work without the word Waves in the titles are more pleasant to me. Try Neverland or the Velocity of love as a start and see if you enjoy. And greeting from Atlanta Georgia!
Thank you very much for answering my friend. The wonderful thing about the net is that you find people with the same interests than oneself. I describe the scene should be one of the most beautiful you can imagine. And unforgettable. In this quiet night I can almost hear the distant train. Thank you for sharing your family aspects, which are beautiful. I will listen to Suzanne Cianni and see if I can do something with his music. Thanks for pointing. I wish you good night and good life.
julio radrigan Enjoy! BTW I bet we share another artist? I grew up playing Saxophone and listening to Gato, Jobim and Sergio Mendez, Eliean Eliais as well !
Thank you very much for your words, Dahlia, they contain the dreams and hopes with which we all wait for our last train ... home. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
Love this song, it was my first introduction to Pat Metheny and jazz guitar. I had the pleasure of seeing him live when I was stationed in Spain. Lyle Mays was also with him on that stage. I had never ridden in a train before until going to Spain. It is a terrible shame that the United States did not do more to help the railroad industry. While I was stationed in Spain Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm occurred. Listening to this song that night at the concert gave me hope and peace of mind that I would make it home again to see my loved ones. Rest-In-Peace to those who did not. God Bless 🙏🏽.
I bought this album when it first was released, a great album from a great musician. This track is certainly my favourite and after almost 30 years it gets better. Beautiful.
Thanks for your comment, Martin. You still have the album? It is really a great album and this theme is just wonderful. In Chile we say that when things get older they get better, like wine. Greetings from Santiago.
Attended a Pat Metheny concert at Kennedy Center, Washington, DC last evening. He, as always gave a truly masterful performance. For me, he is the very best, have followed him since I saw him of CBS Mornings with Harry Smith in the late 70's. A consummate artist, who truly loves his craft. I am and have been most partial to Jamerson and Wes Montgomery, but Pat is simply the best for me right now.
I am one of those people whom don't watch Anime too often, and I just discover this music because it's from that decade. And considering I was in a Jazz band or a concert band for a while made me appreciate various types of music. Whether pop or recorded music, or playing an instrument myself, I got a chance during my childhood to listen to 90s music, early 2000s music, my mom's 1960s songs, my dad's rock music, and then my sibling's movie soundtrack, electronic, and pop music along the way. It wasn't until 2008 when I started getting into 80s music, and from that day on in October 2008, I never looked back on it. While most students of my time in the late 2000s early 2010s use to listen to Rap crap, for me it was this type of music that made me enjoy music more often than the garbage songs that most listen to on the radio in the 2010s/2020s. I do hope that by you coming across this video, that you didn't come here because of the anime, but because you're a music fan like me. - Matthew
I was touched by your comment, Matthew, and I sincerely appreciate it. Despite being an old man and enjoying the music of my time, I have learned to enjoy almost all kinds of music. Some much more than others. And there is some music that I definitely avoid. But I am close to young people, children and students, so I try to get involved with his music. At least I try. I wish you a happy life and beautiful music to listen to. We'll see you on that last train home. Greetings from Santiago de Chile.
Imaginary Day is my all time favourite album, but it's impossible to choose a favourite song/album from Pat Metheny. He is absolutely magical. Had the wonderfull chance, joy and fortune of hearing and experiencing his music live
Thank you for this. "Last Train Home" and "This Is Not America" are not only my two favorite Pat Metheny songs, but also two of my favorite songs of all time. I always get very emotional listening to this song.

This song reminds me of a journey that took 6 of us to Egypt...but only 3 of us made it back; it was my grandfather, some French guy, and me.
But with the jjba jokes aside...this song does remind me of someone special that I still keep dear to my heart.

This is one of the four songs going through my mind the night my mother passed, one of the others was PM's Slip Away.

Thank you for your service..Very brave...
