I respected the heck out of him.
He would never take on a heavyweight in the Christian faith. The Christian heavyweights of his era would have been David Wilkerson, Leonard ravenhill, Josh McDowell, Reinhard bonnke, and Jackie Pullinger.
He never even tried to contact any of these kind of people. Had they been forced to debate or to discuss, he would have met his match.
Christopher hitchens would take on a fallen man of weak faith and intellectual prowess such as Jimmy swaggart, but he wouldn't take on the spiritual giant who excommunicated swaggart.
Dr Deedat, a Muslim scholar made the mistake of taking on somebody of real spiritual power like Josh McDowell in 1980 in South Africa. He never made that mistake again. Every single opponent he debated in the Christian faith and the atheistic belief system was not even close to the experience level or intellectual level of Dr McDowell. These people sometimes get exposed, and they're wise enough not to try it again.
George Carlin was respectable because he knew what his weight class was.

Not always agreeing on a point, but willing to have an actual, nuts and bolts discussion. If you mean the only about panel he was on with, i agree to an extent. I thought Robert Shapiro was on an almost level plane. The other two had no wit. One, it seems, had no brain.

The only problem is that left to our own desires, humans have a very, very poor track record. We will log all of the Redwoods. We will fish until we have no fish. We will use up anything that makes us feel better.

I thought it was a bad idea when they were going through the motions and debates over it, and then once it happened I realized it was so G.B. would have more autonomy and control over its own destiny. Now, what G.B. has decided to do with that autonomy since hasn’t been great, but at least they’re not dragged around by the E.U.’s leash.
