I feel like Yahtzee is the only guy who can completely tear apart really popular games and doesn't just 5000 insta-dislikes because of it.

For instance, if Yachtzee says "It is not recommendable.", it usually means the game is quite average.

Some stuff I think earns Stardew Valley some extra praise is that it was made by one guy, and gives you hours and hours of play for half the price of most titles coming out now. Yes it's a rehash of the old Harvest Moon games but it's still different enough to be fun (if you are into that type of game)
+Daniel Jones The problem with Animal Crossing is that it's (supposed to be) real time. Yeah, you can time travel, but you can't truly pause it if you want the "organic" seasonal progress and friendship development. The Sims, Minecraft, and now this give you in about 20-minute cycles and for a lot of people that feels like getting things done.

I've always assumed that time crawling by when you stand still in Super Hot was because of breathing, shifting from foot to foot, and other little movements that you can't completely stop.
I feel like the simplicity of Super Hot's environment and enemy design are good for letting you get comfortable with the unusual mechanics without being bombarded with visual noise. Think of it like the first test chambers in Portal, only with more explicit plotty stuff and nothing much after it.

You need to try Superhot in VR. A totally different experience. The roomba effect is VERY much gone and you end up crawling on the floor trying desperately to reach the last available bottle to break it over the head of the full sized red bad guy before he tears you a new one. Taking a weapon out of their hands and killing them with it is surprisingly satisfying as well.

Oh yeah, I have like 70 hours into superhot vr on my PS because of the variety of game modes and cooler challenges. I like that after you beat the game there are hard modes and score challenges to do.

I definitely rather liked superhot. Yeah the story was kinda bad but it is designed really well and the challenge modes are actually quite fun. Also it seems like the perfect platform to add even more stuff (maybe a level editor).
+Rob Bay Well Yahtzee is story person, so it's understandable why he didn't like it so much. But mechanically it's as tight as my manly bottom buns.
1) The story isn't just kinda bad. It actually discourages the player from playing the rest of the game, as Yahtzee discussed in the video.
2) I completely agree that SuperHot is HURTING for a level editor. It just doesn't make any frickin' sense.

I actually really like stardew moon- UHHH HARVEST VALLEY- I MEAN- DANGIT!
Superhot doesn't do well in the story depot for me because it felt like it was holding me hostage and made me go along with what it wanted. But instead I would stand up and go " don't make me a hostage until I get the rope and gag ready

What I find interesting is that Nintendo's new Harvest moon game had ditched the 'Harvest Moon' title for 'Story of Seasons'...
So maybe Stardew Valley really did kill Harvest Moon....
Nah, that was a fight between the development team and the publisher. The team left and made their own game but Natsume America owns the Harvest Moon name so the new game became Story of Seasons
Odd coincidence though...or I'm looking to deep into it. Either way, everyone still calls it Harvest Moon.

First time i've ever seen someone point out different pixel densities in "retro" games, it's so freaking annoying. Is is so hard to render the game at a low resolution so that pixels are 1-1 size and nothing is scaled wrong? "No! we must play our pixelized games in 1080p so you can see the pixels taking up 5 times the space of a regular image and scale our pixels at completely different sizes"
Stardew Valley also has the worst case I've seen of another recurring issue with pseudo-retro games. The assets aren't properly aligned to the magnified pixel grid. It's especially noticeable when you're riding the horse, where you're character is almost always misaligned by several real-life pixels, which translates into being visibly part of an in-game pixel misaligned. I mean, you'd think it'd be simple enough to just make it so that the draw positions of assets are fixed to the nearest multiple of whatever you're magnifying the assets by, but what the hell do I know?
4:41 actually there was this one time I went to a "Gruffalo" panto when I was 5, and the mouse was hiding between the Gruffalo's legs, pretending not to notice of course, so I pointed my thumbs downwards and the actor noticed me. He copied it whilst looking at me, then promptly looked down and said "I see a mouse's tail but not a mouse."
If you made it to this sentence, it really stuck to me and I thought (I was 5) that I could control TV for a few days.

Yeah, the Superhot "You can't control yourself" was kind of annoying. Luckily the game is only about two hours long so I was able to get a refund on steam after finishing the game.
Edit: For those of you saying I'm a horrible person, I didn't actually do this. I just thought it was hilarious that you could play and complete the game in the time it took for us to see if we liked a "normal" game.

While it was probably against the "spirit of the game", I won over nearly everyone in the game using a spreadsheet (except Linus, bless him, liked pretty much everything I gave him so long as it was edible.) I tried doing it at random, only to find whoops, I accidentally triggered Kevin's PTSD flashbacks of the war with that sushi, now I'm at negative 5 hearts with him.
Lest you think Yahtzee was harsh on Stardew Valley, it would go on to be his third best of 2016, one of his most played/comfort zone games (with a confirmed three-digit number of hours played), and an inspiration for his creation of a similar game IN SPACE whose name has the *same initials*.
As long as this series keeps going Wednesday will forever be my favorite day of the week

The response "Okay I just fuck off then" being the easy counter to such a dull way of breaking the 4th wall.
Undertale is saying "I controll this game. You played it. You where part in it. If you want to return and keep playing, you have to deal with me. If not: You can go."
Making the choice of either going on with the game, despite the attempts to controll your actions within much more rewarding.
Superhot to me is overall rather ... dull. If I want a pseudo turnbased game, I play FTL.
If I want to kill the same guy over and over again, I play *Insert newest Modern Warfare here*.
If I want a computer voice to repeat 2 words during interesting parts, I bash my head in with a calculator while playing Elite.

The story of SuperHot felt so incredibly pretentious, it wasn't clever at all. I was just skipping through it.
The gameplay was alright but after a mission or two you get the hang of it *real* quick. I only ended up dying once on the last mission because it had multiple stages. Practically no story (would've been better without it) and incredibly simple and simplistic game mechanics - not enough to keep me interested.
The meta parts were forced as heck too. I remember the part where you're locked up and can't get out - I was hoping so badly that it would be at least clever enough to make a comment if I quit and restarted to 'escape', but it denied me even that.
Eh, if you don't try to see it as clever it's a fun enough story, though some of the interludes from gameplay can be irritating.

In Stardew Valley you can actually befriend people without giving them anything, just by talking to them regularly.

+Crow Feathers I didn't know that, but Stardew Valley gives a fair amount of friendship points just for talking. They get 20 per day, while gifts provide at most 80 two times a week.

Yeah. Undertale made such an amazing job with metagame that I see that as a possibility. There's a particular reason why it worked and its memorable, but I don't wanna spoil it here.
