@@efilecir8937 I went in with Light, Vanille, and Sazh. Before I stated the fight I used the items that give you the buffs. I started the fight with Com, Rav, Com and just spammed blitz on each of the heads, once those were dead I then used Rav, Rav, Rav and kept hitting Barthandelus until he staggered. If he’d do the mouth beam I’d wait till the last second and switch to Med, Med, Syn to heal any dmg taken, I’d then switch back to Rav, Rav, Rav and continue damaging him. As for his charge up multi laser attack dps check thing, while I wasn’t able to knock him out of it, I was able to consistently stagger him and mitigate the dmg from his attack to where it barely damaged my party by switching to Com, Rav, Com to keep start up the chain gauge, and also keep it from going down fast, and then quickly switching to Rav, Rav, Rav the entire time to damage him. Using this strategy and party I was able to kill him first try in 1min 17sec. I never saw the boss cast doom which I was actually surprised about.
When I first fought him, I thought he was just a fake-out boss. Then I died to him. I came back with this team and won. His magic spamming is the worst.
@tonitheking Someone finally agrees. i mean, look at this. True, it's not as open as the other FF, but had a good but confusing story and awesome gameplay, not to mention that you get great graphics and a system that requires timing and skill. They did great on the music and the characters were top notch!
Truth. I don't remember how many times I lost to this fight, but I lost four or five times to the last fight until I learned that Poison tears the final boss to shreds, and it really does. I beat him on my first try when I poisoned him.
I had trouble with this fight until i used the same party setup and put on magic resist.Vanille and sazh come in clutch with the buffs and the heals(haste helps a lot),in my experience hope dies way too fast and fang is ok if you want to use her.
you're suppose to keep attacking barthandelus when he's charging up to use his destrudo attack. if you get his chain gauge high enough, you should be able to interrupt his attack.
@xNe0my I think your talking about that attack called destrudo. When he's charging up for destrudo, turn yourself into a medic and let your two partners attack. While he's still charging, select potions but don't use them yet! as soon as he releases his charge, use it at that exact moment and quickly heal your team w/ cure. Oh and watch out for doom. (There's no cure for the spell doom-- so you have to kill him ASAP!!) hope that this helps
I thought I was doing all right, but then I got Doomed, tried an all out Relentless Assault, and got killed. All I had to do was choose better paradigms, and I won on the second try without too great of difficulty. I was expecting a showdown with Jihl, who I despised as much as any other character. Her end was certainly anticlimactic. This might be the Final Fantasy-est song in the entire series.
This boss is really hard guys, so you just need to setup your party with Sazh, Light and Vanille. Cast Fortisol and Aegisol at the beginning and that is it.
I found the secret about this guy, well first kill his heads in whatever order, then when he starts to attack just spam the crap out of him and when he charges destrudo really beat the crap out of him because every time he 'groans' it reduces the damage by a lot, and if you use odin when he's at 50% you can avoid doom altogether. Then he dies.
@RobertCrozier123 If you're talking about "Destrudo", you'll need to switch to a pure offensive paradigm like "Relentless Assault" and go balls-out with damage while he's charging. He'll make a noise and stumble a bit and the damage will be greatly mitigated once it does go off.
I only played this game for a few hours on a rental once, wasn't really for me. But I do remember watching an old friend of mine throw herself at this boss at least 3 times getting brought low by doom each time. I'd say it's worth something when you can make an impression as a videogame boss to someone who's never truly played the game.
dude the heads have diff element weaknesses far left:ice left:water right:fire far right:thunder i think the right ones are ok but they could be switched
Got stuck... Cant beat this, and oddly cant beat the random encounter behind me... No Crystogen=no Haste... No Haste=pulverized by Dustrudo... Pulverized by Destrudo=pissed off me...
This is almost impossible, I tryied to beat him like 10+ times and cant seem to do it, It is a fact that Japanese developers pump up the dificulty for the European releases of the games, but we are not THAT good!! Its really frustating.
THANKS for the Minimising-Destrudo part. I had a really good battle team, but because of that destrudo, I didn't get enough time because of the doom he casts. But you didn't even get doom!
@DJzero101 get everyone healed when he's charging destrudo, then buffed if you can manage it, but most importantly go into something like delta attack or relentless assault because you can 'break' his attack so it does less damage, he should grunt if you hit him hard enough and you should survive
This boss took me 20 mins with Lighting Fang and hope. Hope is paper. And like after I defeated his wings, I was only able to stagger him once. I could not do it again as he resets too fast. I had Rav rav and commando. And could not stagger. I was able to sustain and kill him via chipping his health. Took me 25 mins. I did not die once, but I definitely felt way too weak for this fight. I am scared moving forward. Did I not upgrade my char enough? Or was my team composition completely wrong…..
I just... I don't know. Dysley didn't struck me at any point as a good villain. He was just... there. We never got to know much about him, he never did something really unforgettable (the Nibelheim incident, Kefka poisoning Doma, NeoExdeath screwing the whole world up, Kuja destroying Terra... see what I mean?). They just needed someone to be the big bad. I think Orphan would be a much better villain, were he the mastermind of the whole plot. Too bad he's just another tool.
Just beat this Super Robo Pope boss today, What an intense match that was. That destrudo move is a bitch. Even with Shell, Protect, and Veil on, he still does alot of damage to your party (almost kills me). And if I didn't have these on my party, I would've been dead instantly. THANKS BULLY PARADIGM!!!
The trick to making that more tolerable is to go all out on him while it's charging. Do that enough and some of those bombs will go off prematurely, which weakens the attack for when its let loose. After you trigger that burst, go back on the defensive.
nice video, however it would of been easier using hope and fang in replace of vanille and sazh. Haste is ok (sazh) but wont help you in the long run when he begins using destructo or w/e its called. Hope for magic and fang for commando/sentinal. Hope can fully heal any character with one full atb or cures. Anyway you looked like you have cp grinded so i was wondering what weapons and accessories you used for this?
I remember when I beat him for the first time after so much struggling....and my console abruptly shut off during the following cutscene. I think it was because the power cord came undone or something. My God, that was painful.
i'm still mad Jihl got bodied before we actually had a boss battle with her. Like imagine her given magic on the spot or the tech to mimic magic or something.. Glad she got her chance in 13-2 but still!
Fighting Jihl immediately before Barthandelus would have satisfied the typical "Square" boss sequence...like the Spectral Keeper followed by Yunalesca, haha.
This game has the most retarded random difficulty spike ever, even lesser common enemies can outright kill you. I swear the developers did this on purpose to lengthen the game. They even let you restart where you died cuz they know it's bullshit.
***** Any difficulty "spike" during this game is purely perceptual on your part, and can be attributed to your failure to improve your strategies as they slipped from good, to inefficient, to barely workable, to outright failure. Keep up with the learning curve, and the challenge curve keeps up with you.
+Jannick Lumme At normal levels (fought enemies on path without excess grinding) and without using equipment upgrades or shrouds, every possible team is capable of winning this battle in under 10 minutes. The Doom timer kicks in at the 20 minute mark and gives you three extra minutes from that point. Barthandelus is no pushover (he's definitely harder than anything you've fought yet), but he's not unfairly difficult. Adding shrouds, upgrades, and/or grinding makes the fight significantly easier, especially upgrades. Defensive upgrades like maxed Rune Bracelets make it easier to survive and increase the player's ability to stay in offensive paradigms. Offensive upgrades like weapons and +stat items can roughly double the player's damage output, with obvious benefits in terms of beating the Doom timer. From a challenge play perspective, there is literally no such thing as being "too weak" for this boss; he can be defeated without using the Crystarium and without upgrading equipment, although this does require shrouds and a very high level of skill.
True sentinals are not efficent in this fight but still itsd always good to have a paradigm with a sentinal in it in case you need a damage sponge. Solidarity/delta attack are good for this fight. when you say default tier 1 weapons were they maxed out tier 1 weapons( with the star) or the basic bread and butter lvl 1 weapons? What accessories did you use?
@MagicNeinStudios u could avoid it bt u have to time ur attacks well with lightning that flip shot she does as her final attack is actually an evasive tech as well as when lightning first cast a magic spell, when she jumps back its also an evasive tech. its just all about timing enemy attacks its really reliable
I didn't realize initially that attacking him during Destrudo actually reduces the damage that you take from him from "may take your main character from full health to zero health" to "barely takes your 3 party members to half health" -- has the extra bonus of letting you chew into his health while he's gearing his big attack. With Lightning, Hope, and Sahz -- he goes down like a chump.
@TGMav well u can always go back and farm theres a farming spot not too far from that position, where all the guards are atu keep fighting them for like a half hr to an hr then you will be alright
hmmm... you need a sentinal for the first part of the fight( with the four heads) otherwise hope takes a beating... What accessories did you use? was your weapons full upgraded tier 1 weapons or very raw lvl 1 weapons?
longer than it needed to? did u notice the target time? it is 11 minutes, he is underleveled than most other players that have a 9 minute or less target time (lower target time means you are that much more powerful) and he did it 4 minutes faster than his target time compared to the others who only did it in 2 minutes faster.
i beat this boss first try.. what i did was use light, hope n sazh, start of battle have com/SYN/SYN - hope will cast protect n shell, which all of the bosses attacks wont do much no more so problem solved. sazh will cast haste. then swich to rav on all three characters n kill all the lil heads. then take out the big guy. heal and recast PROTECT wen necessary..
I just can't believe Barthandelus killed Nabaat before we could even get a chance to fight her! I mean, c'mon! She's probably the ONLY really evil person on THE WHOLE GAME!!
Got him in 2 tries. Had a pretty decently working tactic. Died on the doomcounter the first time but I didn't even see the counter start the 2nd time when I defeated him..

- Learn the trick to change-para frequent during fight & abuse Auto-action; so then your atb gauge filled quickly & your character do things nonstop / no-delay.
when team leader done the chain-of-action, u quick change para, & the atb gauge will be full after short para-shift animation > execute the next chain of action / atk.
that like 5-7 sec faster than waiting the gauge filled.
@tonitheking
Someone finally agrees. i mean, look at this. True, it's not as open as the other FF, but had a good but confusing story and awesome gameplay, not to mention that you get great graphics and a system that requires timing and skill. They did great on the music and the characters were top notch!
Thanks bro was straightforward unlike other walkthroughs on this boss
if you cant beat this boss , you cant beat the last one, trust me
shaneclone15 lol last one was easy. But i was at a very high level i must say. This boss fight was just epic and hard for the first time for me :D
Truth. I don't remember how many times I lost to this fight, but I lost four or five times to the last fight until I learned that Poison tears the final boss to shreds, and it really does. I beat him on my first try when I poisoned him.
This is one of these Awesome Final Fantasy Moments :D
this party setup was helpful thanks bro
I had trouble with this fight until i used the same party setup and put on magic resist.Vanille and sazh come in clutch with the buffs and the heals(haste helps a lot),in my experience hope dies way too fast and fang is ok if you want to use her.
2:31 - Where the battle starts
u mad l'Cie?
Barthandelus wasn't even really evil, he just wanted his mommy back.
looks like the faces in both sides of Barthandelus are singing the battle song
Dysley precisely looks like the mad doctor from Human Centipede 1.
you're suppose to keep attacking barthandelus when he's charging up to use his destrudo attack. if you get his chain gauge high enough, you should be able to interrupt his attack.
(There's no cure for the spell doom-- so you have to kill him ASAP!!)
hope that this helps
I thought I was doing all right, but then I got Doomed, tried an all out Relentless Assault, and got killed. All I had to do was choose better paradigms, and I won on the second try without too great of difficulty.
I was expecting a showdown with Jihl, who I despised as much as any other character. Her end was certainly anticlimactic.
This might be the Final Fantasy-est song in the entire series.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It helped me beat him today haha after 3 hours of bs
@TGMav yea you can. I did it. You don't have to be maxed out to beat this guy, you just can't auto-battle to win it so it takes some actual skill.
This boss is really hard guys, so you just need to setup your party with Sazh, Light and Vanille. Cast Fortisol and Aegisol at the beginning and that is it.
It took me 7mins with Lightning, Sazh and Vanille
@DarkEpyon00 thanks........ i have beat him last night, so i finally get to play the game the first time in 3 months.. all thanks to the video.
I'd say it's worth something when you can make an impression as a videogame boss to someone who's never truly played the game.
dude the heads have diff element weaknesses
far left:ice
left:water
right:fire
far right:thunder
i think the right ones are ok but they could be switched
barthendelus has the best voice acting in this game
Got stuck... Cant beat this, and oddly cant beat the random encounter behind me... No Crystogen=no Haste... No Haste=pulverized by Dustrudo... Pulverized by Destrudo=pissed off me...
Did you end up beating it? Pretty sure you need haste
@@4Brazy nope. I beat 13-2 tho somehow tho...
this feels like everytime a supervisor introduces himself i am supervisor derek voice of HR
Your kind FEEEARED the darkness.
So epic. No Barthy, they fear YOU.
This is almost impossible, I tryied to beat him like 10+ times and cant seem to do it,
It is a fact that Japanese developers pump up the dificulty for the European releases of the games, but we are not THAT good!! Its really frustating.
THANKS for the Minimising-Destrudo part. I had a really good battle team, but because of that destrudo, I didn't get enough time because of the doom he casts. But you didn't even get doom!
@DJzero101 get everyone healed when he's charging destrudo, then buffed if you can manage it, but most importantly go into something like delta attack or relentless assault because you can 'break' his attack so it does less damage, he should grunt if you hit him hard enough and you should survive
i wished i could play this again :(
how did you get your health that high up?
This boss took me 20 mins with Lighting Fang and hope. Hope is paper. And like after I defeated his wings, I was only able to stagger him once. I could not do it again as he resets too fast. I had Rav rav and commando. And could not stagger. I was able to sustain and kill him via chipping his health. Took me 25 mins. I did not die once, but I definitely felt way too weak for this fight. I am scared moving forward. Did I not upgrade my char enough? Or was my team composition completely wrong…..
Dude you are the man i just barely killed this guy off right now with light, hope, and fang and i was just lucky.
His Fal'Cie form reminds me of the angel bosses in Bayonetta.
@Trickster242
And they brought her back as a DLC fight in the Coliseum in FFXIII-2, and was more of a threat.
no its not the final boss,
did anyone else freak out when he says "I am fal'Cie" in his crazy transformers voice haha
@Momentum139 Correction: All but Sazh take a step back... He is badass for a reason.
I loved this boss battle, the music, the voice, oh yeeeeeah!
Fang looks like the only one not afraid of Barthandelus
Just beat this Super Robo Pope boss today, What an intense match that was. That destrudo move is a bitch. Even with Shell, Protect, and Veil on, he still does alot of damage to your party (almost kills me). And if I didn't have these on my party, I would've been dead instantly. THANKS BULLY PARADIGM!!!
The trick to making that more tolerable is to go all out on him while it's charging. Do that enough and some of those bombs will go off prematurely, which weakens the attack for when its let loose. After you trigger that burst, go back on the defensive.
@@AzureMoebius22 I already beat this game many years ago, but thanks anyway.
😂😂😂
this boss wasn´t too hard for me, i beat him without dying. But still it was like 15 minutes past when i beat him but i was sooooo happy
nice video, however it would of been easier using hope and fang in replace of vanille and sazh.
Haste is ok (sazh) but wont help you in the long run when he begins using destructo or w/e its called.
Hope for magic and fang for commando/sentinal.
Hope can fully heal any character with one full atb or cures.
Anyway you looked like you have cp grinded so i was wondering what
weapons and accessories you used for this?
Wow Thanks for da Video IT HELPED ME SO GOOD!
@Polardj900CPCP You got it all wrong, dude. Sigma. From Mega Man X. It's him. See? He finally took over the world and now Reploids reign supreme.
Fighting Jihl immediately before Barthandelus would have satisfied the typical "Square" boss sequence...like the Spectral Keeper followed by Yunalesca, haha.
i disagree change sazh with snow to asure that lightning dont die because he will get 70% of damage from destro which leaves 15% to each of the rest
I've stopped playing ffxiii about a year ago, and all this because of this motherf*cking piece of shit, i hate this boss,
This game has the most retarded random difficulty spike ever, even lesser common enemies can outright kill you. I swear the developers did this on purpose to lengthen the game. They even let you restart where you died cuz they know it's bullshit.
***** So salty, you do realise a half an hour of grinding in that area is enough to beat this guy?
***** Any difficulty "spike" during this game is purely perceptual on your part, and can be attributed to your failure to improve your strategies as they slipped from good, to inefficient, to barely workable, to outright failure. Keep up with the learning curve, and the challenge curve keeps up with you.
+tiornys hmm but you can´t kill him when he do a deathmark on you this is just stupid so you can´t beat the boss bc you are just too weak
Having trouble is there any grinding need to done before the battle? What should my equipment stats be at before the battle?
Ok, who else thought those heads on his body were singing the chorus part of the music the first time they played this?
Wait, people thought this guy was hard? Lightning, Sazh and Vanille tear him apart. About 5 minutes for this fight.
I know how you feel, Barthandelus was one of the hardest bosses I've ever fought in this game.
hmmm... you need a sentinal for the first part of the fight( with the four heads) otherwise hope takes a beating...
What accessories did you use?
was your weapons full upgraded tier 1 weapons or very raw lvl 1 weapons?
Man, you make this look easy.
@rtrtrt366 I guess she got turned into a Jihl Sandwich!
I was on this battle so long that he cast doom on me. This was my first time trying to fight him and it was taking me over 40 minutes.
I beat him in about 10 minutes yesterday. And it was the first time I ever faced him too.
I know this comment is old but I managed to beat him first try in about 1min 17sec, never saw him cast doom.
longer than it needed to? did u notice the target time? it is 11 minutes, he is underleveled than most other players that have a 9 minute or less target time (lower target time means you are that much more powerful)
and he did it 4 minutes faster than his target time compared to the others who only did it in 2 minutes faster.
When I first fought this battle I thought after you loss you move one.
i beat this boss first try.. what i did was use light, hope n sazh, start of battle have com/SYN/SYN - hope will cast protect n shell, which all of the bosses attacks wont do much no more so problem solved. sazh will cast haste. then swich to rav on all three characters n kill all the lil heads. then take out the big guy. heal and recast PROTECT wen necessary..
Don't know whats with all the complaints.. he was hard but i thought the challenge was great. Took me about 3 trys.. Nice video! :D
no, but after you fight Barthandelus he will tell you who the final boss is
i dont really think there is a "best" one. thats the awesome thing about FF theyre all so completely different from eachother
@MagicNeinStudios ooops i meant his other attack i forgot what it was called (when he charges up)
I just can't believe Barthandelus killed Nabaat before we could even get a chance to fight her! I mean, c'mon! She's probably the ONLY really evil person on THE WHOLE GAME!!
i like everything about this game except for the battle style i still miss the old one.
Got him in 2 tries. Had a pretty decently working tactic. Died on the doomcounter the first time but I didn't even see the counter start the 2nd time when I defeated him..
