Ghosts was the first cod campaign i ever played and i will admit im biased to it but i just love the concept of the federation so much.
I also think its very unique, im glad they came up with a different idea rather then Russian or China being the bad guy which is often the case with games at the time of when ghosts came out.
The idea that the entirety of South American rising up against the usa is just cool to me which even inspired me to have my own version of that story in my own story.
Does the federation have problems? Yes and i will admit that but i still love it, also i know it aint the most realistic war that could break out ( or even work since well realism) but realism aside i still love this concept and ghosts as a whole

Except Russia wasn't really the bad guy. If anything the U.S., if you're referring to the original Modern warfare trilogy that is, would have been more likely the bad guy. And even then it neither side were really the bad guy. Both nations were being manipulated by Russian terrorists and their leader makarov. As well as some manipulation from general shepherd. Because later on in the games we do end up shooting at both Russians and American troops, starting off with American troops first, I would say America's was leaning more on the bad guy until it was revealed that Shepard was manipulated in everything and getting his own boys killed.
Really just making it two very powerful people on each two very powerful individuals on each side and neither Nation really to blame or at fault or really the bad guy.
I mean this could probably be said for the new trilogy. But the old trilogy, unlikely. And although we do play as some American rangers and submissions, remember that the primary protagonist within those games were from the uk. Not america.
Everything else in your comment I agree with. I wish video games would explore & experiment with South America a bit more.
And ask for the federation, will a sequel is still left open and although they tried to really paint them as the bad guy in that game, not too much about them was explored. Meaning they're still always the open opportunity that they can flip it around and build up the federation a bit more in a sequel if it was ever green lit.

@@HK47_115 i meant bad guys as in kinda just the basic form. Saying as in like the main large force we fight while shepherd and makarov were still the main villains. Really the Russian army in the original mw2 and 3 were antagonists rather then villains in the strict terms since ass you said both sides were basically tricked.

I feel like Ghosts might have been better with the worldbuilding if it instead had it that the US had formed a North American Union with Mexico and Canda as part of steps to preserve itself due to resource wars caused by the destruction of the Middle East and the Federation was a similar creation. Something born out of necessity and the conflict between the two factions is a little less ethnocentric (because it does feel at times like its a war of America vs the savage southern Spanish speakers), but more of a conflict between two empires for control of the hemisphere and dwindling resources.
This way the game could almost have its cake and eat it too by being able to say 'war bad', while still having epic conflict. It could even fix up the questionable nature of the Ghosts by making them a joint NAU operation by intelligence services, hence why they focus on trying to be scary with all the ghost iconography and skull masks.

      THIS.
I was genuinely surprised that when the Federation started marching north, the US didn’t tap on Canada and Mexico’s shoulders and said “hey it’s probably a good idea to form a joint continental union to stand against this common enemy”. Leveraging the land and natural resources of the U.S. and Canada along with Mexico’s population combined with the U.S. population would’ve made the Federation pause at the idea of a unified North American superpower.

I discovered (and subscribed to) your channel and became an instant fan a few days ago. Now, you've just posted a video with a topic that I love to discuss: the biggest flaw in modern CoD titles and, specially, Ghosts: the setting. No explanations and reasons, just shoot at generic bad guys and maybe have one or two dramatic moments.
At the time of the game's announcement and release, I thought it could be a great idea! Perhaps they would develop an interesting story for America 'big stick' relationship with the region in the 19th century and the Cold War and evolve it into an full-scale conflict in modern times. Hell, they even went bombastic back then saying that they hired an Hollywood top writter for the game lol. Amazing analysis and AH, Matt (sorry for any english mistakes).

Cool video! I could see 'Back to the USSA' in your shelf (I'm currently reading it haha) so I would love a video about it someday.
It's true that alternate history isn't a common subject on latinamerican scifi literature (although I can say the 'what would happen if Columbus never arrived' question are more common that one would thought). But if someone is interested on alternate history in Spanish, I heavily recomend these two works:
Synco (Jorge Baradit, 2008) is about the real-life project Cybersyn, intended to aid the control of a centralized economy using computers, and what would happen if it were implemented after the failure of the US-backed coup against Salvador Allende (most of the Chilean alternate history is centered around Pinochet's dictatorship). Avoiding spoilers, the book is not just alternate history but also weird fiction, but is a high quality work.
The second one is my favorite, Crónicas de la Serpiente Emplumada (Chronicles of the Feathered Serpent) by Edgardo Civallero is about Columbus arriving on the Caribbean, but crashing against the rocks before telling the news to the Spanish kings. The remaining tripulation (that in real history died attacked by the natives) sails west and after some misfortunes, are adopted and transform the Aztecs into a gunpowder empire which sails back to the East and do a bloody conquest of Europe with the help of other native peoples. The saga has 4 books, which have some gruesome depictions (although it is an equivalent to Conquistador chronicles) and ends in their equivalent to the 80's with the story of a "Native" Spaniard intellectual that has to face the prejudices that still exists agaisnt her language and culture (and sadly exists in our world but with the places switched). Trust me, it is one of the most complete stories I've ever read.

    • @Nuaheal
      @Nuaheal 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Columbus's crew never set foot on Aztec land, the first time was in 1519, more than 20 years later when Columbus and the Catholic kings had already died, Furthermore, it does not include that the cocolixtli and matlasahuatl pandemic in 1540 would probably have prevented the growth of the Aztec empire, The Purépecha empire and the Tlaxcala lordship would probably have joined forces with other indigenous states to prevent the uncontrolled growth of the Aztecs.

    • @Nuaheal

@@Nuaheal Of course they didn't. Tat's why it's called alternate history. I strongly recommend reading the book since it addresses those questions. The book doesn't paint the Aztecs as saviors, simply turns the tables.

I got so disappointed about how undercooked the story CoD Ghosts was that I decided to fix it by creating an Alternate Timeline which the Portuguese lost the War of Portuguese Restoration and Simon Bolivar united South America (Excluding the Guyana's) thus leading to the creation of the Federation of the Americas by 1831.

It is now but it wasn't originally. The first two games were WW2 shooters that actually challenged the US centric perspective of most other WW2 shooters at the time by having British and Soviet campaigns in addition to the American one. It was pretty disappointing to see this series take the direction it has.

In Tom Clancy's: End War, they had something about nuclear terrorism in the Middle East (Modern Warfare) and that Russia became the only supply of oil, so they grew their army exponentially, and the US had kinetic space weapons as well, it's not hard to make it so that it's the Federation and not Russia.

I liked this game very much it’s story line and lore is so underrated just like the game it’s self some people didn’t like he idea of South America forming a union superpower lead by Venezuela for some reason I liked it very much the main reason why this game got a lot of unnecessary hate is because everyone wanted modern warfare at the time when it was released, well Because of that we will never get a cod game related to cod ghosts in the future at all, but the game was still very good and underrated idc about what anyone else thinks.

The best way to do this story would be to split the federation into Russia/ American or Latin American Insurgents.
Do the Odin attack as something Russia did in Ww3 in MW3. The rest of the game should have been the resulting Civil War that would have happened after DC got invaded in the Modern Warfare Timeline.
If they want to do a South American Federation then they should make it a United Central America or renamed Mexico taking advantage of the chaos.
Uniting South America as a whole is ridiculous unless you want to change the point of divergence 100s of years ago.
The main story should be more focused on the main Ghosts team like this video had.
The last thing it should have had was Ghost from MW since the game basically steals his branding to try to get sales.
