Honestly I like the idea of Nemesis Prime being an incarnation of all the negative thoughts Optimus Prime has had. I feel there should be more comic book series that should take that route instead of a character that was created by someone/something else to fight him, having Optimus tackle his own dark thoughts could make some great character development for him in that series.

I like the idea of Nemesis Prime being a physical manifestation of Optimus Prime’s inner demons, created by Unicron. Instead of Optimus being a force of good and valor, Nemesis would be a force of malice, hatred, and bloodlust made flesh. A literal demon in Cybertronian form. Armada played with that idea, but it was only implemented in one episode.

But, with the live-action series being rebooted with Bumblebee and ROTB, maybe we might see a new incarnation of Nemesis Prime in the future.

I think Scourge did the black convoy thing the best, because he uses a different mold than his Optimus counterpart, unlike every other version of Black Convoy just being black repaints of their respective Primes.
Yeah. When I added a Nemesis Prime to my collection, even though I have the Siege Voyager Prime, I got the TR Voyager Nemesis so that they were roughly the same size but completely different molds.

I love the take that Nemesis Prime is just Optimus' corpse being puppetted by Unicron and powered by dark energon, reducing the great hero to a berserking zombie.
Scourge from RiD should have been the main antagonist after Megatron. He was smarter, more cunning and had his own arc. He wasn't just an evil Optimus, he was his own character. Ive always liked the idea of Nemesis being an unstable evil clone of Prime. Think of it like Megatron attempted to clone Optimus to create a servant as powerful as Optimus, but it goes horribly wrong and what comes out is Nemesis, an evil, nearly uncontrollable clone of Prime. Feel like this would make a good one off comic.
I think if Hasbro opted to go for a black, grey and teal colour scheme for Nemesis Prime in The Last Knight, rather than just changing his optic colour and putting a red streak across the side of his face, that would be my favourite version
Scourge is of course my favorite of the "Nemesis Primes", because I love the figure he is a recolor of, he was more then just a clone, he was not really a throw away character, and well he was my first experience with the "Nemesis" concept. So in a way I find him to be the prime of the Nemesis Primes. Awesome video BTW.

I find it really funny that Nemesis Prime himself really isn’t a super interesting character concept (‘Optimus Prime but evil and colored black and also not a main antagonist’) but he keeps coming back because his name and color scheme are ridiculously cool
Armada Nemesis and Universe Nemesis are my favorite versions of the character. I love the idea of a tortured and broken optimums from the universe story. But the Armada one is my go to Nemesis character. He's cold, ruthless, insane, and just scary for him to be a one off character. The best part of Nemesis though is how he doesn't pick being an Autobot or Deception.
What if optimus were tortured and as you said broken? I imagine that his personality would take a DRASTIC shift crueler had a temper that you could easily set off and more bloodthirsty possibly more sarcastic but how would the matrix take to that? And what side would he take?
I love the character, whim I first saw in tfp, but I wish the bayverse version wasn’t actually optimus himself. Instead, I wish that Quintessa had instead maintained optimus prisoner and, using her great power, created nemesis from all the anger, selfishness, and sadness of optimus prime. Then, she would send him to earth pretending to be optimus, until bumblebee would get suspicious and find out the truth.
Thank you for this one, Chris! I personally love the less-used idea that Nemesis is a dark reflection of Optimus...the very idea that such a paragon of virtue and justice can have a cruel, hidden dark side that can potentially be exploited is too good for the story-teller in me to ignore. And I never realized that Scourge and Armada Nemesis were the first couple incarnations we in the West ever received...makes my collection feel a teeny bit more special 😁
Scourge was the first incarnation we got in the west for Optimus Prime, but we did get one even sooner of Optimus Primal, called Onyx Primal as the name "Nemesis" hadn't been established yet and "Onyx" allowed him to keep the initials O.P. It was a Botcon Convention exclusive though.

The show had this thing called the Omega Lock that was powered by these things called the cyber planet keys that were scattered on 4 different worlds. I’ve kind of had this idea for The Animated line, where Sentinel after being foiled by Optimus in some scheme that would see him truely go bad, would adapt to look like him after this but in black and red colors, in order to mock him and joined the decepticons.
Wow, very impressive. I thought that Scourge was the original version, not knowing about Beast Wars II/Beast Wars Neo until much later. While I have always liked the concept, I had no idea it was so varied or had spread so far. Thank you for this video and this series, expanding the minds of fans old and new.
Unfortunately, reusing molds is a time honored if frustrating Hasbro tradition. Still, it has led to the creation of some interesting concepts and some great characters.
I concur. I believe the laser Optimus was part of the Machine Wars line, which was not well received, perhaps because none of the figures really worked for the characters they were supposed to represent.
Scourge was the most flushed out version in my opinion and thus my favorite. I would love to see a video on Punch/Counterpunch if you ever get around to it. Or maybe just the idea of double spies!
Dark Prime Recolors are my favorite. when I first saw Scourge[RID] as a child I fell in love. I've had many of the spychangers and I even continue to get dark prime figures to this day. Scourge himself has a special place in my heart.

Interested with all the varied origins of Nemesis Prime. I think it would be cool to use an idea from the old comics. When Prime died but was rebuilt and and revived because his mind was backed up on a floppy disk. It would have been cool if then that old Prime shell was reactivate by some enemy group as Nemesis Prime.
Let's not forget the OG Nemesis Prime, Motormaster, leader of the Stunticons! He rivalled Optimus in a good chunk of episodes and Optimus had even disguised himself as Motormaster, along with other autobots, whom had also disguised themselves as other Stunitcons and were even able to combine into a fake Menasor!

Al Zbeta i have no idea yet of that yellow duplicate of Megatron. All i know is that Nemesis Prime is a black duplicate of Optimus while Ultra Magnus is a white dulicate of him. About the black Ultra Magnus toy i am imagining, that would compose of black cab robo and whatever color of the trailer would be.
I think they both sound doofy. Honestly, I'd say part of the reason Scourge is the only one that actually stuck around is that "Scourge" is a much better name. Unfortunately, that name's taken.
BattleUp Saber i agree scourge is an actual character who was an intragral part of the story rather than a one shot evil optimus prime by far my favorite evil optimus.
There's a lot of transformers out there that are important characters to one story and then just a throwaway homage in other stories, Scouge is no exception.
I kind of like Nemesis Prime in The Last Knight. "I fight for my own kind! My own planet!" It was Optimus Prime's hidden desires brought out through reprogramming taking away his morals of not sacrificing innocent life to achieve Cybertron's Rejuvenation. Something Megatron has no trouble with. And I like that they used Bumblebee's voice as a way to snap Prime out of it taken directly from Attack of the Autobot. Although Bumblebee also had a device, but him talking to Prime made it easier to put it on him. I do wish Hot Rod also fought alongside Bumblebee that way we can have both Attack of the Autobots and Dark Awakening when Hot Rod fought a brainwashed Optimus Prime.
I realize it’s late but I LOVE the interpretation of the Netflix show we’re Nemesis is a Unicron possessed version of Optimus, in the same vein (and comrade) of Galvatron
I've always thought that Motormaster had to have had some influence on this concept as well. I mean, he's a black and gray semi that sees Optimus as his rival for the title of "King of the Road".
I read a fan comic from a series called "Transformers Mosaic" which features different one-shot stories from throughout the Transformers multiverse, and the one I read gave an interesting take on Nemesis Prime. In the comic, it presented Nemesis as having been a jealous former co-worker of Orion Pax who tried to have him killed, and when that failed, he forced Alpha Trion into giving him an upgrade, turning him into a black duplicate of Optimus. I really like this idea and would like to see it implemented in official TF media, and maybe have him be a bit like RID!Scourge where he's a dangerous free agent with his own agenda.
Lio Convoy is prounounced LEE-Oh like Leo since LI in japanese sounds like Lee. It's why Lion in one fighting game Virtua Fighting is called Leon by the announcer.
No, it's "Lye-oh." Japanese is a phoenetic language, and the "Lio" in Lio Convoy's name is spelled ライオ, or RA-I-O. It's "Lion" without the "n." It would be "Lee-oh" if it were spelled レオ (RE-O) or リオ (RI-O).
@@ChrisMcFeely Most of the Lion Convoy media, including toys we used to get from Otasco, I seen spelled it Lio/rio Convoy but I could see the Raio/Laio being as good or better. Then again that could just be the shenanigans of the translator that brought that toy over in my area. We didn't have Voltron we had (in English) "Go Lions" and Macross toys too. Forgot the company that did the importing and repackaging though. We got many versions of 'Convoy' from them. Definitely need to see if I can find the VHS tapes with that one episode of Beast Era on it. It was basically four cartoons on one tape and one was Transformers: Beast Era and I would swear the voice said Leo convoy with the subtitles reading 'Lio Convoy'

As a side thought, the Prime version of Nemesis shares similarities with Bizarro of all things. A dull pallet clone created by the mad science of a villain voiced by Clancy Brown. Silas for one, Lex Luthor for another. Coincidence or homage? No idea. But I found it a neat observation all the same.
Had an odd thought; it'd be kind of impossible to do a dark recolour of Optimus Primal on account of being a Gorilla. Solution... an Albino Gorilla. Nemesis Primal!
Nemesis' name was a big gag when it came to the Transformers War for Cybertron trilogy where he features alongside Galvatron. When the Maximals and Ultra Magnus encounter Optimus, they mistake him as Nemesis much to the true Prime's aggravation.
Personally, I was disappointed that the truck that would become Human-created Galvatron/Megatron in Age of Extinction wasn't Nemesis Prime. It would have been far more interesting to see a the movie-verse bring in a human-created Optimus Prime copy who gains sentience and became Nemesis Prime. That aside, it'd be nice to see a series in which Nemesis Prime ends up as the real opponent; initially appearing loyal to the Decepticon cause, suddenly killing Megatron and his loyal second Soundwave, and turning the Decepticons into a competent force, giving the Autobots one hell of a time. Either him or RiD Scourge (a variant of him anyway; Scourge Prime?).
Prime’s nemesis was both impressive and a bit of a let down, a whole year of watching Mech be a legitimate threat to cybertronians and the whole thing comes crashing down in a single episode.
I remember that in the classic G1 transformers cartoon, Optimus Prime once disguised himself as Motormaster. (Could this be considered to be the unofficial "First version of Nemesis Prime"?)
You should do a spin off "Basics -Spotlight" seties where you showcase a different G1 character each week. And use the regular Basics series for broader topics like, Triple Changers, Seakers, Wreckers and Artifacts of the Primes.
I actually have that POTP Nemesis Prime figure now (got him back in April 9th). A very worthwhile Birthday present indeed. 😊 I dunno why, but I'm a right sucker for an evil Optimus Prime clone. Just a huge fan of the whole Nemesis aspect really. ☺
I love the idea of Nemesis being a version of Optimus when all the bad things that Optimus thought is true. That would be a great movie or show to have Optimus try to fight the dark thoughts and not try to become Nemesis.
TLK Nemesis. Mostly for the Western Star 5700 Phantom Custom alt-mode, but I really liked the Knight's armor aesthetic as well. Makes him a very intimidating face collector imho. Armada is a close second.

I like the WFC idea of Nemesis Prime in that he is an alternative universe future OP that was turned and enslaved by Unicron.
Chris‘s voice is enough to make the Bayformers plots sound compelling.
Ive always liked the idea of Nemesis being an unstable evil clone of Prime.
Think of it like Megatron attempted to clone Optimus to create a servant as powerful as Optimus, but it goes horribly wrong and what comes out is Nemesis, an evil, nearly uncontrollable clone of Prime. Feel like this would make a good one off comic.

I think if Hasbro opted to go for a black, grey and teal colour scheme for Nemesis Prime in The Last Knight, rather than just changing his optic colour and putting a red streak across the side of his face, that would be my favourite version
Scourge is of course my favorite of the "Nemesis Primes", because I love the figure he is a recolor of, he was more then just a clone, he was not really a throw away character, and well he was my first experience with the "Nemesis" concept. So in a way I find him to be the prime of the Nemesis Primes.

I always thought jazz was second in command. I think prowl is cool, but I have little knowledge on the character. Also ultra magnus wasn't second in command until rodimus came.
I find it really funny that Nemesis Prime himself really isn’t a super interesting character concept (‘Optimus Prime but evil and colored black and also not a main antagonist’) but he keeps coming back because his name and color scheme are ridiculously cool

Armada Nemesis and Universe Nemesis are my favorite versions of the character. I love the idea of a tortured and broken optimums from the universe story. But the Armada one is my go to Nemesis character. He's cold, ruthless, insane, and just scary for him to be a one off character. The best part of Nemesis though is how he doesn't pick being an Autobot or Deception.
What if optimus were tortured and as you said broken? I imagine that his personality would take a DRASTIC shift crueler had a temper that you could easily set off and more bloodthirsty possibly more sarcastic but how would the matrix take to that? And what side would he take?

I like War for Cybertron Trilogy's approach with Nemesis Prime where he's from a timeline where Optimus Prime became what Sky Lynx warned him about.
I love the character, whim I first saw in tfp, but I wish the bayverse version wasn’t actually optimus himself. Instead, I wish that Quintessa had instead maintained optimus prisoner and, using her great power, created nemesis from all the anger, selfishness, and sadness of optimus prime. Then, she would send him to earth pretending to be optimus, until bumblebee would get suspicious and find out the truth.
Please do one about Nova Prime! I genuinely forgot about him but he's a freaking badass!
Thank you for this one, Chris! I personally love the less-used idea that Nemesis is a dark reflection of Optimus...the very idea that such a paragon of virtue and justice can have a cruel, hidden dark side that can potentially be exploited is too good for the story-teller in me to ignore.
And I never realized that Scourge and Armada Nemesis were the first couple incarnations we in the West ever received...makes my collection feel a teeny bit more special 😁
Scourge was the first incarnation we got in the west for Optimus Prime, but we did get one even sooner of Optimus Primal, called Onyx Primal as the name "Nemesis" hadn't been established yet and "Onyx" allowed him to keep the initials O.P. It was a Botcon Convention exclusive though.

The show had this thing called the Omega Lock that was powered by these things called the cyber planet keys that were scattered on 4 different worlds. I was hoping you could explain more about there origin of the Omega Lock and it’s link to the different races of transformers

I’ve kind of had this idea for The Animated line, where Sentinel after being foiled by Optimus in some scheme that would see him truely go bad, would adapt to look like him after this but in black and red colors, in order to mock him and joined the decepticons.
Scorge is defintly my favorite as he was an actual character that did stuff rather than generic one shot evil optimus prime.
Wow, very impressive. I thought that Scourge was the original version, not knowing about Beast Wars II/Beast Wars Neo until much later. While I have always liked the concept, I had no idea it was so varied or had spread so far. Thank you for this video and this series, expanding the minds of fans old and new.

I concur. I believe the laser Optimus was part of the Machine Wars line, which was not well received, perhaps because none of the figures really worked for the characters they were supposed to represent.
Laser Optimus Prime was a post-G2 version of the character, Machine Wars Optimus Prime was actually a repaint of Thunderclash, a European exclusive.

Dark Prime Recolors are my favorite. when I first saw Scourge[RID] as a child I fell in love. I've had many of the spychangers and I even continue to get dark prime figures to this day. Scourge himself has a special place in my heart.
My first gamertag was Scourge on xbox back in 2007, he was and still is my favourite looking transformer next to shockwave and soundwave!

Interested with all the varied origins of Nemesis Prime. I think it would be cool to use an idea from the old comics. When Prime died but was rebuilt and and revived because his mind was backed up on a floppy disk. It would have been cool if then that old Prime shell was reactivate by some enemy group as Nemesis Prime.
Let's not forget the OG Nemesis Prime, Motormaster, leader of the Stunticons! He rivalled Optimus in a good chunk of episodes and Optimus had even disguised himself as Motormaster, along with other autobots, whom had also disguised themselves as other Stunitcons and were even able to combine into a fake Menasor!

Al Zbeta i have no idea yet of that yellow duplicate of Megatron. All i know is that Nemesis Prime is a black duplicate of Optimus while Ultra Magnus is a white dulicate of him. About the black Ultra Magnus toy i am imagining, that would compose of black cab robo and whatever color of the trailer would be.

There's a lot of transformers out there that are important characters to one story and then just a throwaway homage in other stories, Scouge is no exception.

It was Optimus Prime's hidden desires brought out through reprogramming taking away his morals of not sacrificing innocent life to achieve Cybertron's Rejuvenation. Something Megatron has no trouble with. And I like that they used Bumblebee's voice as a way to snap Prime out of it taken directly from Attack of the Autobot. Although Bumblebee also had a device, but him talking to Prime made it easier to put it on him. I do wish Hot Rod also fought alongside Bumblebee that way we can have both Attack of the Autobots and Dark Awakening when Hot Rod fought a brainwashed Optimus Prime.
I realize it’s late but I LOVE the interpretation of the Netflix show we’re Nemesis is a Unicron possessed version of Optimus, in the same vein (and comrade) of Galvatron
I've always thought that Motormaster had to have had some influence on this concept as well. I mean, he's a black and gray semi that sees Optimus as his rival for the title of "King of the Road".

I read a fan comic from a series called "Transformers Mosaic" which features different one-shot stories from throughout the Transformers multiverse, and the one I read gave an interesting take on Nemesis Prime. In the comic, it presented Nemesis as having been a jealous former co-worker of Orion Pax who tried to have him killed, and when that failed, he forced Alpha Trion into giving him an upgrade, turning him into a black duplicate of Optimus. I really like this idea and would like to see it implemented in official TF media, and maybe have him be a bit like RID!Scourge where he's a dangerous free agent with his own agenda.

Lio Convoy is prounounced LEE-Oh like Leo since LI in japanese sounds like Lee. It's why Lion in one fighting game Virtua Fighting is called Leon by the announcer.
No, it's "Lye-oh." Japanese is a phoenetic language, and the "Lio" in Lio Convoy's name is spelled ライオ, or RA-I-O. It's "Lion" without the "n." It would be "Lee-oh" if it were spelled レオ (RE-O) or リオ (RI-O).
@@ChrisMcFeely Most of the Lion Convoy media, including toys we used to get from Otasco, I seen spelled it Lio/rio Convoy but I could see the Raio/Laio being as good or better.
Then again that could just be the shenanigans of the translator that brought that toy over in my area. We didn't have Voltron we had (in English) "Go Lions" and Macross toys too. Forgot the company that did the importing and repackaging though. We got many versions of 'Convoy' from them.
Definitely need to see if I can find the VHS tapes with that one episode of Beast Era on it. It was basically four cartoons on one tape and one was Transformers: Beast Era and I would swear the voice said Leo convoy with the subtitles reading 'Lio Convoy'

Nemesis prime needs to come back
As a side thought, the Prime version of Nemesis shares similarities with Bizarro of all things. A dull pallet clone created by the mad science of a villain voiced by Clancy Brown. Silas for one, Lex Luthor for another. Coincidence or homage? No idea. But I found it a neat observation all the same.

Had an odd thought; it'd be kind of impossible to do a dark recolour of Optimus Primal on account of being a Gorilla. Solution... an Albino Gorilla. Nemesis Primal!
Nemesis' name was a big gag when it came to the Transformers War for Cybertron trilogy where he features alongside Galvatron. When the Maximals and Ultra Magnus encounter Optimus, they mistake him as Nemesis much to the true Prime's aggravation.
There should have been a clear version of the shark Minicon called "Diamond Giza"...

Personally, I was disappointed that the truck that would become Human-created Galvatron/Megatron in Age of Extinction wasn't Nemesis Prime. It would have been far more interesting to see a the movie-verse bring in a human-created Optimus Prime copy who gains sentience and became Nemesis Prime.
That aside, it'd be nice to see a series in which Nemesis Prime ends up as the real opponent; initially appearing loyal to the Decepticon cause, suddenly killing Megatron and his loyal second Soundwave, and turning the Decepticons into a competent force, giving the Autobots one hell of a time. Either him or RiD Scourge (a variant of him anyway; Scourge Prime?).
Prime’s nemesis was both impressive and a bit of a let down, a whole year of watching Mech be a legitimate threat to cybertronians and the whole thing comes crashing down in a single episode.
If I could do a Nemesis Prime storyline, my version would be he's the evil version from the shatter glass universe.

I love the idea of Nemesis being a version of Optimus when all the bad things that Optimus thought is true. That would be a great movie or show to have Optimus try to fight the dark thoughts and not try to become Nemesis.

TLK Nemesis. Mostly for the Western Star 5700 Phantom Custom alt-mode, but I really liked the Knight's armor aesthetic as well. Makes him a very intimidating face collector imho. Armada is a close second.
