1961 VW Beetle - First Test Drive - Supercharger!

This is the first test drive of the 1960 VW Beetle with the AMR500 Supercharger. It seemed to perform pretty well, though I thought I heard a knock at one point, and a miss at another point. But at times it seemed to dig for LOTS of power, so that is promising. I didn't need the fire extinguisher! Also there were no real issues as far as the motor running, heating up, or severely malfunctioning.

Thanks - there are still a few little hiccups in the tuning. It is hard to do - say - the idle mixture screws when under boosted conditions. Normally you would balance the air flow CFM in the top of the carbs and then do the lean best mixture. But with pressure hats on, there is just forced air all the time in both carbs. So I am trying to figure it out as I go...

Thanks! Little by little - tomorrow I can mess with it some more and see if I can make it behave reliably - and the load can make the idle want to sputter out - so that may be timing or lean best mixtures for idles…

Thanks - the AMR500 has a whine to it, and when you shift gears you can hear the hiss of the blow off valve…

The whine is the AMR500 - it has a high pitched whine. What I need to figure out is if there is belt squeal in there as well…

The higher pitched noise from the AMR500 is definitely audible when driving. The belt screech I am working on - I think that is from back pressure on the blower right at the max 12 psi boost. The blow off valve hiss is audible when shifting gears or letting off the gas. So - yeah - it is a bit noisy

@@LarsonSplitBus- I have a 1960 with a 1600 single port. Debating what I could do to it with the current heads. Kind of want to go turbo but the Kompressor Haus kit price and simplicity is appealing.
