Clearly we have all been watching restoration videos for a while to be complaining about powder coating, using an angle grinder, hand work, missing glass etc etc. Nowhere does he say he's trying to restore them back to the most original state and sell them with 100% authenticity. Look at his workshop, his tools, his sand blaster even - he doesn't have all the new, updated, crazy amount of tools we see in other videos. He's starting out and he's happy to make something old and rusty look like new. If you want him to have all the tools and video editing skills then send him the money, get him the subscribers to do so. Saying what you would like to see or how he could maybe do some things differently is constructive but otherwise give him a break. He's doing great.
In the title he calls it a restoration which it clearly is not. It is a modernization or renovation! Renovating something makes it look brand new but not original. Therefore not restored. If people think that restored does not mean putting something back the way it was when it was first originally made then what one word would you use to indicate that? I even worked at a historic site for a summer and they had to get the fireplace restored. The fireplace company that tried to restore it had to rip it all out three times before they finally got it right. That is true restoration!

Sir..you did a wonderful job. It looks very nice. Iam glad you gave it new lifa..I have been an antique lover all my life and I appreciate anybody who loves old stuff. You also have good taste in music.
I had the EXACT same thought as you. I said to myself something that ornate looking would look great in a gold/brass look. Shortly after I had that thought, there comes the gold paint. Great job! Beautiful. I wish I had that patience to restore mine like that.
Excesso de profissionalismo na restauração, quanto no capricho e detalhes, DEUS o abençoe sempre. Ah a propósito gostei também do fundo musical, pena que acabou 👍👍👍👍👍🇧🇷
This was my first video watching here. I was absolutely horrified when you started painting the silver white. Because I really liked the silver but then the white looked really nice. Definitely not a fan of the gold but I just don't like the color gold. Overall absolutely awesome job! Thank you for sharing
What do they mean incorrect glass? 26:35 The choice of glass is actually correct, that is a circular draft lamp and they really do tend to have non-tapered chimneys. It's correct it's correct 👋 - but yes, the reason lamps like this are gold/silver in appearance is because they are brass/nickel plated for fire/corrosion resistance
That's debatable my friend. The problem with the antique/collectible market is that this new generation doesn't value the craftsmanship and history of the items. Since globalization became so prevalent and items were imported to the Americas at cheap costs, people have access to cheap goods and seem to be satisfied with decorating their homes with stuff from Ross and Ikea. Would love to see a resurgence in the antique/collectible market. But, one good thing about restoration is that it makes the item appeal to the newer generation....breathes new life into something
Great job! I’m so sorry and embarrassed at how many Americans are just plain rude in some comments! I can’t even believe some idiot would say “it’s useless without the glass”, u can buy replacement hurricane glass chimneys many places!
Also, thanks for doing the real work rather than immediately shoving the whole thing in a sandblaster. Sorry some kids in uniforms probably destroyed all the cool antique lamps
stupid question…….you wear a mask while doing this, right? i just keep seeing all the rust particles 😳 btw, i have one with the red colored glass. i was told it was from the railroad workers. ever hear of that?
Lower the wick to trim the flame. The tank cap had anticlockwise thread? I dont think so. The heat would burn the paint.... oh well sell a few you tubes....
why would someone think an oil lamp is useless without the glass? as long as you keep the flame low like you are supose to you should be ok. and keep it away from anything flameable again like you are suppose to. I mean my family has done so in emergency situations and it was safe and fine and we was kids then. I mean come on if you are using an oil lamp you need to have some common sense to start with. And besides its a lamp you should be able to go to any store the specializes in lamps and get new glass or shades

Cheap metal! Brass does not rust! Brass plating would have been better than brass paint. That wick looks like it needs to be trimmed. That's why it's not burning even. Or you can buy a new one. They are still available online.

You don't need the latest gear to demonstrate that you understand what "restoration" means

Nice! I just did a brass lamp from 1905 on my channel.
nice job, but why on earth wire brush it before sand blasting it?
I assume to take off the rust, that you can visibly see.
Definitely rust they had to use D
D 40 to loosen it

Nice.. in my country, this supposed to be with clear glass covering so the light will be still.
why paint??😮😢 shine was perfect
Is it crooked?
It looked better unpainted or, if you have to gild something, do it with gold leaves
Muito bom.
Hey don’t you have rust remover or something like that
Wow, the wicks look surprisingly healthy... great job making it clean and sparkly but it ain't gonna be valued as an antique anymore.
Thank you. We will change

Been waiting for this one, and you never disappoint. Great job! Thanks for sharing it.
AMAZING - not really, Restoration - not even close. But I will give you credit for trying.
Thank you
Can you tell me why you chose not to brass plate the lamp? It would polish up so pretty...better than spray paint. Still a good restoration though...
Wouldn’t say amazing outcome.

what nation?

Also, thanks for doing the real work rather than immediately shoving the whole thing in a sandblaster. Sorry some kids in uniforms probably destroyed all the cool antique lamps
I was actually wondering why you don't just throw it in the sandblaster first. Wouldn't it save the step of wire brushing. Excuse my newbieness. :D
@@everydayhandwriting I thought the same thing I mean loosen the flakey rust but yeah sandblasting would make the job easier
Totally misread this as bring from a series called "Antique Thang".
why do you first make the scratches with a wire brush and then sandblast it
👌👌👌🇹🇷🇹🇷
Incorrectly lit. Trim the edge of the wick and don't push it too far.
I know that breathing noise. You're wearing one of those Chinese gas masks based on the Soviet GP-5 aren't you?
👍👍👍
Nice job but I would like to have seen it with no dents and powder coated.
I'm surprised that you didn't use a belt sander. Maybe next time take a little more time, and do it by hand.
Good job but sound....😬😬😬

Nice work, but the video could be way shorter....I mean the steel brush part, way too long.....way too long
Wrong way to do it ~ needed to replate the brass, unless that is beyond you?
Good job but you shouldn't paint it you should live it at is it
