    You find or seek to find the most interesting and rare items to restore..and i am amazed at how well these items are made..the craftsmanship of these items puts the new stuff to shame..and this is why i love these restoration videos..to bring back the good stuff..to show people what our ancestors had in their lives..thank you once again..

    The chicken should be on the center rod of the spit and the adjustable tine would stick in the chicken to hold in place to keep it spinning and getting heat on all sides. The way it was set up, the chicken just rotated on the tine and the heavier side kept facing towards the fire. Really cool device though...

    I was pleased to see that you prudently chose to leave the mainspring coiled inside its housing. Perhaps you may come across one of those devices clockmakers use to coil and uncoil mainsprings (or maybe you could one day fabricate one for yourself.)

  • @srh1101
    @srh1101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A very lovely restoration and such a great thing to have on a camp fire.
    A couple tips for you though.
    1. When you tried repairing the handle you got the brass way too hot, that's why you used so much solder and it wouldn't stick. When doing that kind of repair just heat the brass only as hot as it needs to be to melt the solder.
    2. Take all the mechanism back apart and strip all that grease off. You should never use it on a clock mechanism as it attracts dirt and grime and will eventually gum up the movement. If you need to lubricate it use a graphite based lubricant designed for clocks.

    • @srh1101
