Even the smallest of cars can get a driver's attention and the 2012 Toyota Yaris is no exception. With it's small size, zippy 1.5L engine and solid fuel economy the Yaris will get you to the grocery store and back with a little fun along the way.

And though it's not laid out like the comfiest commuter car, in a competitive category with contenders like the Hyundai Accent, Chevy Sonic and Honda Fit, what sets the Yaris apart is a brand legacy and, as of 2010, redefined styling.

I was thinking the same thing. If you don't have time to support your local mechanic buy a toyota. I dont care what people say whether it's design or engine choice, or whatever, I buy for longevity, reliability, and durability.
Toyota is by far one of the best car makers out i had a '97 Toyota Corolla and that thing was built to last, and while Toyota maybe showing its age a little with some models, their reliability has been top notch. Fell in love with this car the first time I sat in one and haven't looked back since..
I drive a Yaris, and I can say its such an easy car to handle and also really economical plus it has enough of space for your daily drive
Great review! This guy should do more reviews for autoguide! I used to own a Honda Fit Sport, and I know exactly what he means about these little cars being fun! I'm just glad to see Toyota pulling their heads out of their backsides in terms of sportiness! And yes, Toyota is still the industry leader in quality, the other makers are just catching up! Ford still has a ways to go! Those Fusions will still start to fail just after the warranty runs out, and this Yaris will go 200K with no issues!
You guys are right... they DON'T set the standards for looks or performance(sadly...supra), but what they do set the standard for is dependability and reliability... i can trust tha my Toyota will always start up and take me to where i need to go... that is one fundamental spec of a car most of you aren't taking in consideration.
Why would anyone be "Anti Toyota" ? They set the industry standard for quality.
Still wondering why people are going for exterior rather than the interior and reliability of a car~ I have a 92' Lexus with 279k miles on it. My dad has a 97' Toyota Celica with 323k miles on it ~ both are still running great with no problems. Being anti-toyota is just redundant o.o'' But whatever floats their boat.

As he'd said, it's an A to B car. Autoguide would assume most buyers are more geared towards auto. If I'd get something like this, that would be a Jazz/Fit for sure.
A four-speed auto? And an EPA rating less than a compact Civic? Well, I'm glad it handles well and looks somewhat decent!
Its an ok car.. Its better than the Versa, but everything else in its class is miles ahead like the Fiesta, Fit, Rio, Sonic, etc.
Yaris needs a better and more powerful engine.
Yaris is still missing dark green or dark blue colour . I couldn't understand why today there are so many car in black ???!!!

Don't talk about height. Long legs/= tall. Short legs/= short. I have a 32" inseam, my brother a 36", and we're both 6'. I have the long torso build a la Italians. I wish people weren't so awful giving advice about height when proportions are the real issue.

Not compared to the Koreans for price now. All journalists say that the Koreans (Elantra for example) offer best quality for price

theres no passion whatsover. for me, i view toyota as a giant car company that builds the most generic cars on the road. they are getting better, look at the lineup from last year or 2 years ago, every car looks like it was styled to bore you. the interiors are cheap and i feel like other brands do things much more enthusiastically. honda is a little better, at least they have si models. and hyundia actually tries with its styling.
well when you charge 50K for a midsize, I guess the least you can do is to put some quality materials inside [I hope]...
