    Good tip on pinning the intersections to avoid that "bubble". Love your tutorials!!! You are a perfectionist, like me.

    Good video, but I’m a beginner and I really wish I could have seen a close up of your needle, pressure foot and ruler when you were explaining the ‘scant quarter inch’. I learn better when I can actually see it. But that being said, I love your videos because you are a great teacher and do explain things very well.

    The ruler"add a quart inch" is that a regular 1/4 inches or a scant quarter inches??

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the ruler is called a "Add-a-Quarter" and has a scant quarter inch lip on the end that makes the process of paper piecing much easier. It's only used for paper piecing.

    since it appears your machine has a built-in walking foot can I leave on my walking foot for piecing?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  ปีที่แล้ว

      you can but depending on the walking foot it will be kind of bulky.

    How do you address the scant quarter inch seam allowance if your needle will not move to the right?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Margaret, If you needle doesn't move you need to put the Seam Guild to the front of your foot - finding the distance from your needle to the guild.

      Hi - i move my needle to 2.8 or 3.0 - not sure why but sometimes it's one and sometimes the other - so check it often - I do :)

    Hi I have a few questions about the wool mat- today someone I know that has a wool mat said her iron is turning black, why? Someone else that has one said when they use steam, the mat smells....do you have any of these issues or know why it happens for others? I am considering getting one, but with these issues I am not sure if it will be worth it.

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Mimzy, I haven't had either of these issues - i use steam and i use spray sizing and have no issues. I'm honestly not sure what "brand" mine is, my quilt shop gets them from a vendor in Michigan so it's not a "normal" vendor.

      @@QuiltingWithNancy Ok Thanks...I am wondering what the differences are that some are having these issues.....I expect you have a site that your mat is available through?

      @@mimzyriepensell1423 - I don't sell notions on my site, just my books and pin cushion but i have two friends with sites that have the mats - www.firesidequilts.com and smithowensews.com

    Can you always just press open seams?

    • @QuiltingWithNancy
      @QuiltingWithNancy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Donna, I don't think it is best. When a seam is pressed open that means that it is the thread and the thread alone that will be keeping the seams together. When you press to one side not only will the quilt top be stronger but it also makes it and much easier way to match your seams so you get a really good connection :) There are some quilts that i do press seams open for, for other reasons, the Lone Star and Double Wedding Ring are two of them that i do that with.
