Prusa vs Bambu Lab X1C 3D Printers - Which is the right choice?

- 3D Printing (or additive manufacturing for those who want to sound high-falutin) is a revolution and has become accessible to the masses through tools like the Prusa MK3S+ and Bambu Lab X1C. However, it's hard to know which one is right for you. Here are my thoughts "beyond the specs" and why most of you should probably go for a Bambu Lab printer, but there are also good reasons to nab a Prusa if you have a specific need or use case.
Thanks so much for watching today! I respond to all (reasonable) comments and appreciate your feedback.

Sorry but this is an unfair test Bambulab vs Prusa.
You are comparing a new Chinese car with a Skoda that is 20 years old, even though Skoda also has new models.
The Mk4S may look similar to a MK3 but is much better.
You can unbox it, run the calibration and print.
You don't have to adjust anything yourself. Always a perfect first layer.
Wifi setup with NFC. You also have an app without an external manufacturer. If you need a camera, you can also order it and simply connect it to the printer.
You get updates even if you don't use the cloud. You have the same range of functions without the cloud. If you want to use the cloud, then according to strict European guidelines.
Bambulab still has to learn how to be repair-friendly.
You're right about one thing. You can highly customize a Prusa to your needs, but you don't have to (anymore).
I don't think what you're saying here is right. All the disadvantages of a Bambulab are played down or not mentioned at all.
The alleged disadvantages of the Prusa are emphasized and the impression is given that it is the same with the current Prusa.
I am not implying any malicious intent here, rather ignorance.
I’d love to be able to compare the MK4S and that was what I started looking to buy before seeing lots of reviews showing that while Prusa has improved in its “self maintenance” and calibration, Bambu is still a better “appliance,” which implies some good (it just works, until it breaks and you’re stuck with manufacturer support) vs Prusa and also has better print speed. I frankly haven’t encountered any real negatives to the Bambu, although I acknowledge the negatives of a more closed ecosystem than Prusa. Apple is similar, on one hand i hate being at the mercy of one company, on the other everything mostly works.
I’m ambivalent on GDPR. All it’s brought me is lots of stupid “We use cookies! Please click 38 checkboxes before you can do what you came to this website to do!” pop ups !
The thing is skoda new models are still horrible
@@morbus5726 Strange that I didn't notice that.
Please explain why. What experiences have you had?
I have only relativized the statement here because it is definitely not true in most areas.
And others, who are perhaps looking, get the wrong impression that Prusa printers can do at least the same.
You can use Prusa with a camera out of the box without third-party software.
You can do this with the cloud or with the same scope only in your network.
If you want security, you can physically remove the wifi module and camera.
If a bearing breaks at some point, you can simply replace it.
You can find the bearing anywhere in the world for little money and use your printer again.
With the X1C, you have to replace the entire gantry because of a bearing, which is only available from the manufacturer. Who knows how long after a model change
There is a video from Shop Nation, a Bambulab fan and print farm operator.
He abandons two X1Cs after 1000 hours because the repair is no longer worthwhile.
Something like that makes me think.
I'm not saying that the Bambulab is bad, you get a lot for your money.
But they also have disadvantages that you should know about beforehand.
I've been using my printers for many years and the Prusa are constantly being developed further. Even if there is already a new model.
Everyone has their own requirements and I don't presume to impose mine on others.
@@herr_rossi69 From my experience, having used mk3s, mk4s, p1p, p1s, and x1c, the bambus are much easier to maintain and simple to start a print.
@@morbus5726 I took a closer look at the P1P at Formnext because you can see the Bambulab technology very well there.
How you can maintain or repair it better than an MK4 is a mystery to me.
Nobody will deny that there are differences between Prusa and Bambulab.
I hope it stays that way for a long time because competition is always better for us customers.
Cool review! I’ve been looking into Bambu Lab - some good perspectives to have.
Glad to help. I’ve been pretty impressed with my Bambu thus far. Just watch for sales. They seem to always be at least 10% off so don’t pay full retail.
Your comparing two products of two different epochs of 3d printing. The Bambu x1c is significantly newer than the Prusa mk3(s)! Please compare the X1c with the Prusa XL or mk4(s) wich are kind of the same epoch.
And if you want a 3d printer other than Bambu, get a Sovol, they at least support the open source effort of consumer 3d-printing.
I would love to compare the latest and greatest of each, but as I'm not sponsored I can't afford to buy both the current printers. I do believe the "personalities" of the brands are still effectively conveyed even without looking at the latest and greatest printers. Bambu strives to be an "appliance" while Prusa is more of a "tinker's tool" as I explain in the video.
We have 2 XL’s and 4 MK3’s for two different works….never again, Bambu for now on…..it’s a progression.
Shame
Having a MK3S I would never get a Prusa again. The fan pulses to zero when set to below 30-40 percent and Prusa did not want to fix it, stating it works as designed. Unforgivable at that price in my oppinion.
That’s bad to hear. I haven’t had to use their support (other than printing that replacement part) and my Bambu has been flawless thus far so haven’t tried their support either. Prusa is going to need to do something to differentiate since it seems Bambu is eating their lunch at the moment.
