    I think the thing about Jesse and Walt is more about the fact that Walt sees himself as Jesse’s father figure, a protector and a guide, now here’s Mike coming in and seems to be stealing that role in Jesse’s life and Walt isn’t very happy about that. He’s jealous.
    Jesse’s and Walt’s relationship can be deeper than it seems at times.

    • @maelstrom2313

      That may be part of it but I think the major factor is that Walt sees Jesse as his right hand man in crime. Without Jesse he couldn't have taken out Gale, set up Gus, met Tuco, etc. Without Jesse he has no henchman, and that makes him feel powerless.

    So when Walt gets a soda at the vending machine he looks out into the washing area through the window and you say "I don't know what was going on there." I am glad to explain! Now he looks at this area because now he owns it just liked he owned his cancer.

    Podcast Notes: cornered
    Guests: Co-exec producer Melissa Bernstein; Jonathan Banks (Mike)
    1. Vince was a huge fan of Jonathan Banks, especially in Wise Guy. He thought there was no way they’d ever get to work with him, so try hadn’t written Mike with him in mind, but when the audition tapes came in & Vince saw Jonathan’s name, he was shocked and so excited.
    2. How is mike & Jesse’s relationship changing (according to Jonathan)? He likes Jesse. They think of mike as someone with a moral code who stands up for people he cares about, didn’t start out intending to be in crime, yet he has the ability to kill people. Jonathan thinks there’s something tragic about how he got here, though he doesn’t know what. Age wise, he sees Jesse as someone who could easily be his son, & he sees him as someone in trouble. The scene in the car in front of the house came very naturally to Aaron & Jonathan.
    3. They’re proud of jessebfor getting smarter & better every episode at this point, using his cunning from having been on meth to get the shovels going.
    4. It was Vince’s idea to send a unit out to the Four Corners. It’s native land, so they sent someone first to negotiate whether they could shoot. They sent a double for Anna the (empty) carrier, and intercut that with pieces shot on their sound stage with the actors.

People are not always on the verge of goodness and evil, people do good deeds and bad deeds, we make good decisions and bad decisions.
      I also think Skyler sleeping with Ted was a low blow (although she did have her reasons to do so), but what you're talking about is bs. Skyler slept with him way before figuring out he was commiting tax fraud. And even when she decides to help him, she was not helping *HIM*, but if the IRS investigated her for her afiliation with Ted's company, they would've figured out something was wrong about the Whites' income (once again, thanks Walter).

    Look at the rage and anger on Walt's face during this scene as he delivers those lines. Almost as if he's insulted that Skylar would even suggest that that could happen to him. And for her to have those thoughts, insinuating that he's could get arrested or die, i.e that he is weak, is insulting to Walt hence why he spouts out how strong and powerful he is. Yup, and the grand irony is that Walt *wasn't* the one who knocked. Not that he isn't completely capable of murder at this point, but the reality is that he was sitting at gunpoint while Jesse did the deed. Without Jesse he would have been the one in the barrel instead of Victor.

    🚚🤬🚗🇭🇳 some of the best and most quoted lines of the series in this episode. Shows what wonderful actors they all are. Bryan Cranston's monologue to Skylar "I AM the danger! I AM the one who knocks!" And skylars reaction are amazing. She didnt even have to say anything to convey what she was feeling. And "someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family." The way she delivers the line and her piercing stare is fantastic. Gus' line to Jesse about seeing things in people. When gus is talking to Mike right before and the way gus just stares at mike with his dead, creepy eyes is so awesome. Jesse proving he isnt just some junkie... that he is smart and has grown. All the characters are so well written and the actors just nail their parts. I love it. I always felt so bad for the ladies but I do think they knew what was going on, gus sent them away to prove a point to walt. Its like when victor started cooking without gus' ok and then gets his throat slit. Walt thought he was being smarter than gus and trying to show gus up and gus was like nope... Now because of you doing something without my ok people are getting punished.

    The unanswered question for this episode is what happened with Gus's delivery truck. Last time Mike survived to drive it out of public view, but this time it was just left there for law enforcement to find. Surely that would have raised some red flags on why one of their trucks would have been hit like that, and why there were armed guard on board.

    Re: your intro discussion, I don't think Walt's ego is making him angry because he thinks HE should be getting the extra job outside the lab. Instead, I think he's angry because his ego insists that HE's Jesse's boss, and he doesn't like Jesse answering to anyone but him.

    I think that while Walt really hates the idea of his work being attributed to someone else, it's also a direct conflict between him and Hank, where Walt doesn't want Hank to think he beat him (even though Hank doesn't know it was him).

    Hi, I'm not sure if this was already mentioned in the earlier videos but I just wanted to point out a little detail from the 'Box Cutter' episode when Gus slit Victor's throat and was holding him while he bled out. While doing that he first looked at Walt who was gagging and looking away in disgust but then he shifted his eyes to Jessie who on the other hand held his ground and stared right back at him. You could see at that moment that whatever plans he had they would involve Jessie instead of Walt.
    Just wanted to point that out because of what Gus said to Jessie in today's episode - 'I like to think I see things in people'. Love you guys, keep it up! :)

    • @angie-tq4ew
      @angie-tq4ew 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand what you're saying. I'd like to think I saw the same thing. There's definitely a shift in the way Gus looked at Jesse after Jesse stared him down. Good call, and thanks for remembering to mention it. I always want to say something at the moment, but can't because of spoiler, then I'd forget when it's appropriate to do so.

    • @ghenry4513
      @ghenry4513 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angie-tq4ew - in the next episode, which I just watched for about the 15th time a few nights ago, I just noticed some deeper meaning to all of this, too that I never noticed before. I think what Gus saw was Jesse was like a dog when he killed Victor. Dogs growl back and bark at people, especially certain kinds of dogs...And what do we find out that Gus sees in Jesse? Loyalty. Dogs are most known for their loyalty....So what's the name of the episode? Problem "dog". Gus views Jesse as a dog that can be "trained" into Loyalty. So his strategy is to bring Jesse over to his pack, and have him abandon Walt...Of course, the title of the episode also has multiple meanings...

    Walts biggest downfalls were his narcissism and lack of intelligent humility, his inability to recognize his own mistakes and accept responsibility for his own choices then strive to make better ones (which always go hand and hand with narcissists). Those are also the real reasons he turned to criminality in the first place, instead of a legit high paying position back at Grey Matter. The cancer was the catalyst, but his narcissism was the reason. A lot of people only see how he was gangster. I see how he was actually an emotional cripple and a very weak person. Jesse though, he was the beating, broken heart and moral compass of this show. Smarter than anyone gave him credit for (robbing trains, and magnets bitch! 😂👏), wore his heart on his sleeve, a natural born protector of children and those weaker and smaller than him, and was fiercely loyal. His authentic self is kind, loving, and just. He’s an innately good person who did bad things, which he then could only blame himself for, to the point that guilt would eat him alive. I’ve always loved him. Dearly. He’s my favorite character. Also this episode contains one of the most famous scenes in tv history. The danger speech 😂🤣

    Walt and Gus fighting for Jesse's soul. With this new job, Gus has given Jesse some purpose in his life...it makes him feel he's got more self-worth. Plus, ever so slowly, he's bonding with Mike (Gus' main man). Meanwhile, all Walt can counter with is demeaning arguing that backfires. Gus and Walt both want Jesse's loyalty.
    Despite Heisenberg's terrifying "I am the one who knocks" speech, I like that Skyler stands toe-to-toe with him and zings him with "I have to protect the family from the person who protects the family". She's rightfully scared, but yet she still stands up to him.
