    I find the 2.0s aren't as durable as the originals but because of the price vs potential to lose 3-4 balls per round anyway the price outweighs the durability issues. Once I regularly keep the same ball for 18 holes I'll start looking into the more expensive balls 👍

    • @cfish9646
      @cfish9646 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      More expensive balls aren't going to last 18 holes either to be honest

    • @marshalkass9944
      @marshalkass9944 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are bad though. One good wedge and it’s unplayable. I get around 18 holes or more from a pro v 1

      @StephenParsey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree with you, Simon. The durability problem is real. They had to change the formula after Titleist sued them over the original K-Sig ball.

      I'm with you on this. Scuffs so easily now. In saying that though, I shot my first ever sub 80 round with a ball that was at the time 2.5 rounds old and it made it to the end!

    • @davidhorner879
      @davidhorner879 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I played 36 holes with one ball. Barely a mark on it. Broke 80 both times, no issue with distance either, no way am I buying more expensive balls, pointless.

    Matt, you are a Pro and would hit the ball relatively consistently. The “average golfer” (not Andy) I.e. 10hc and above wouldn’t notice these differences as much and frankly, they would probably lose a ball quicker than they would need to change it - at nearly £3 a ball difference, it’s an absolute no brainer ! GREAT REVIEW 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @theshortgolfer8687
      @theshortgolfer8687 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly let the average golfer hit 10 ProV1 and 10 Kirkland in the simulator and you will most likely find the average delta is much much less.

  • @joedark750
    @joedark750 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As others have said, in store you can get these a lot of times at about $1 per ball. They spin a lot on drivers/woods so they definitely lose some distance and can balloon, but is 10ish yards worth spending 4 to 5 times more on golf balls? It really comes down to how many you put in the woods/water.

  • @joesmith1946
    @joesmith1946 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Doesn't it depend on your swing speed? You're testing it against your normal driving distance of 290 yards. So the Kirklands aren't right for you specifically. But most people don't have that kind of power. I would think a better test would be from someone who hits their driver 210. That's a lot more common than 290.
    That's something that frustrates me about a lot of these ball tests and club tests. The people doing the testing aren't normal golfers.

    • @39zack
      @39zack ปีที่แล้ว

      It does. But I always heard 2layer balls is better for low swing speed

    I'd be more interested to see a comparison between the Kirkland and (say) the - closer in price - Titleist Tour Soft. Not everyone is looking for a "premium" golf ball (except in the long grass if play is slow 😁 ).

    • @StephenParsey
      @StephenParsey ปีที่แล้ว

      K-Sig 2.0 strike/fly, chip and putt more like a ProV1 or a Snell MTB than anything else, but the K-Sig urethane cover is noticeably not as durable as any Titleist.
      TruFeel are the best two-piece ball on the market. Tour Soft are surprisingly nice but putt VERY soft compared to ProV1 or the K-Sig 2.0.

    I paid $30 for 2 dozen. I really like the ball. I know from experience they go further when it's warmer, I guess you can say that about most balls.

  • @tylerpalmer8973
    @tylerpalmer8973 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I played them most of last season and enjoyed them very much. I didn't experience any issues at all. Just as long and straight off the driver as Pro-V1s and I found them just fine off my wedges. Because they're so inexpensive compared to premium balls, I also bought a couple of boxes to put in my practice bucket to hit into the backyard net and to chip around with. I'll likely play them again this year.

  • @mikehoffman7131
    @mikehoffman7131 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I found this ball to be absolutely wonderful. The only time that I ran into any issue was a full wedge into a green I noticed the increased spin and less distance on thos clubs because of it. Other than that it was very consistent for me

  • @boomshizzIe
    @boomshizzIe ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'll continue to buy my 1 to 3 boxes of Pro V1s for special days or if I'm really striping the ball and just play the brand new Kirklands everyone sprays around my local courses. It's hilarious how many brand new Kirklands I find on any given day cause no one cares enough to spend the time looking for them.

  • @greentg9709
    @greentg9709 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think if you're a low handicapper, where losing a ball during a round is the exception rather than the rule, then these probably don't make economic sense. However, as a high handicapper, if I was to use Pro V1's, then I'd probably need to take out a mortgage every time I played around, just to fund the purchase of the balls! This also means that durability tends not to be an overly important consideration in my case.

  • @tankeater
    @tankeater ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why did you add TAX to the Kirkland... but not the PRO V1??? Bias is uh heck of uh thing!

  • @davecummo8743
    @davecummo8743 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is NOT the ball that has been compared to the pro v. The ball was a four piece and for legal reasons Costco had to stop making them. This ball is a revised version of the cheaper ball

  • @StephenParsey
    @StephenParsey ปีที่แล้ว

    The durability issue is real. Costco had to change the formula after Titleist sued them over the original K-Sig ball.
    Everyone has their personal tolerances for scuffs, but as a decent golfer hitting less than say 3 “soft hazards” (moderate hits on trees or sand shots), I can get a ProV1 to last 2-3 rounds in very playable condition.
    The softer and thinner urethane compound they now use in K-Sig 2.0 breaks down significantly after even one impact or sand shot or even as few as a dozen normal iron/wedge shots as Matt showed.
    It would take at least 4x as many standard strikes to see even close to that amount of damage on a ProV1.

    I play off a 15 handicap index... so buying 24 balls for $29.00 Canadian (plus 13% tax :), is a great deal. They are very playable for me at my level and I hope to drop a couple points this year. I drive 215 - 230 yards so they go far enough for me. If I lose one, it's a $1.37... not a great loss.

    I’ve been playing Kirklands for a few years. They’re not quite Pro V1s, but I’m not a quite a pro. At all. But I love the feel of the balls, particularly around the green. My drives could afford to go further, but I find I make up strokes in my short game.
    Or, you know, it all falls apart, but that’s not the balls’ fault 😅

  • @okeesmokee6658
    @okeesmokee6658 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Excellent review - Thanks Matt. I play these - partly because I have a slower swing speed and have noticed that I can't compress a Pro V. I have noticed the durability issue on the 2.0s, which for me is saying something because a ball would usually be lost before wearing out. My rule of thumb - I buy the Kirkland balls and I find or let people give me the Pro Vs - seems to be working for me. Oddly enough - I find more Pro Vs where my ball goes (right), so it is less the ball and more the swing for most of us.

  • @wschield608
    @wschield608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve played this ball on and off for a couple of years. Although the price has gone from $25 to $36 per 2 dozen they are still a top value. I’m 70 yrs old and my swing speed is no where near what it once was but here is what I’ve found. The 2.0’s grab around the green like no other ball I’ve played, including the Titleist. They are great downwind but the driver losses a few yards into the wind. Is it enough to make me bag the ball, no. Like everyone else, I’m always looking for that Silver Bullet but at least for now, these are keepers. A nice review, thank you.

    I play the Kirkland balls...great deal. Here in the states they are $27.99/2 dozen. I am not a very good golfer and I really don't notice a difference in distance ...I also, on occasion, play the ChromeSoft and I have not seen any drop off in distance....but that is for me. Kirkland all the way baby! Thanks Matt.

  • @Tomkat53
    @Tomkat53 ปีที่แล้ว

    I played these for the first time, this season.... the durability is AWFUL! I'm not even close to pro-level swing speed, and the cover was absolutely GOUGED after any short iron shot. I don't care how "affordable" these are... NO BALL is cheap enough to replace EVERY 1 or 2 HOLES.

  • @markdennis800
    @markdennis800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good review Matt. These are my go to balls. I literally did a test on these vs TP5x on an indoor sim. TP5x went on average 8 yards further in total and carried 5 yards further. 7 iron was 2.8 yards total further for the TP5x and 1.7 carry. With all that being said, it's about £80 for 24 TP5x and £27 for the Kirklands. There isn't enough performance difference for me to spend £50+ extra for a little distance. I've never had durability issues with this ball so it's strange seeing one chew up so easily. Good stuff though Matt.

  • @SePhO11
    @SePhO11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the price and performance how can you go wrong, they spin plenty on the irons, they are shorter then most premium urethane balls but if you lose one , so what! They are made in the same plant and have the same dimple count as the new PXG! Would this be a better ball for an average swinger? Nice review Matt, thanks!

    That’s what I’ve noticed too. Driver was about 10-15 yards shorter. I think it’s because of the spin. Higher than my normal shot. Irons and wedges were about equal. Maybe a little more stopping power actually. Putter felt fine. Currently gaming the maxfli tour. Bought some tour x’s and we’ll see what the difference is

    Why didn’t you hit 10 Pro v1’s with your driver in the studio, to compare (different days, different swing and rhythm), along with 10 wedge shots with 1 Pro V1, to test durability? Seems like an unfair comparison when you don’t actually hit the ball you are comparing it against. Just my thoughts. Damian

    i see a lot of people comparing these to pro v1s and they are coming up slightly short, but that surely is understandable considering they are less than half the price... as a high handicapper (26.5) i want to be spending around £20 a dozen because i lose them but im after something that will perform to inspire confidence. these do everything i need and have the added benefit of being different from the other balls that playing partners use. brilliant for me!
    it might be more interesting to see the comparison to some of the other £20 odd balls, maybe Srixon AD333, Callaway Supersoft, Titleist Trufeel and taylormade soft response.

    It’s a shame no actual informative data was included to show strike location, club speed, smash factor etc to actually back your review.
    Saying I hit 10 shots with the driver and middled them is rather misleading, you can see from the shot lines there were some very different shots within the test.
    A fairer and more informative review would have been to hit 1 Kirkland, 1 ProV for 10 shots each then compared the results with the actual data and show the averages.
    Since you didn’t show smash factor, let’s go with your claim of “middling them” and say you got a perfect 1.5 smash factor that would mean your club head speed was 105mph. 277 carry for 105 club speed seems pretty much on the money?
    Appreciated the review and please don’t take this as me being toxic but it seems key information was missed and when you have the equipment there to record the information why not use it and show the audience all the information. Always adds a large amount of doubt in my mind when sponsored influencers don’t include the basic and key information to fairly make a clear, honest review.

Back in the heyday when You, Matt, and Rick were having a great time posting content together it was great fun for all of us to watch. I gave these balls a run as well. I relegated them to back yard shag balls now as on course, they spin far too much off the driver and that costs me 10-12 yards off the tee. Tee balls that feel great when I strike them, fall 10 yards short of expected landing zones on my home course. No likey.

    Maybe revisit and compare against Srixon AD333, Titleist True Feel or Tour Soft, Callaway Hex Soft and TaylorMade RBZ.
    I think these are all ionomer covered balls so it would be interesting to see how the urethane covered Kirkland's compare against those.

    I normally play a AD333 which I honestly think is the best ball on the market but had a box of the original Kirkland balls which I used for a quick 9 holes tonight. I shot 46 through 9 holes with the same ball and there is hardly a mark on it. Might keep them in the bag for a while.

    For the price point, the issues are off-set. Great review!

    Another informative review Matt thanks. Would've loved you to hit a pro v with your new wedge for comparison. Played with Kirkland for the last couple of years and love them. My premium golf ball of choice would be the TP5 but like most comments I would rather lose a Kirkland than tp5 anyway. Also I don't know where you're getting ripped off on price as I purchased a 2 dozen box 3 weeks ago for £26

    I play these all year round, but in the summer I'll take a sleeve of Pro V1's and then a few sleeves of these. That way I aren't burning a whole box of pro V1's on a bad day and destroying my wallet and on a good day I have 3 top quality balls and a very decent back up should I lose those 3.

    I found one of these balls on my golf course last week after nine holes. I used it on the back nine and thought it was ok nothing special. I'm lucky that a lot of members at my club use Pro V 1 balls and I have found a bucket load around the course. For me I believe you get what you pay for and Pro V 1 and X are a top ball and I only use them in competiition thanks to the mombers. I wouldn't four quid a ball.

    Have tried this ball a couple of times and didn't like it very mutch, I found it a little bit clicky sounding with irons and not as soft as some say, I've never played great with it and durability isn't great as you point out. I much prefer for a decent performance value ball a srixon Q-Star and im a midhandicaper at 13 handicap, each to their own and definitely not for me.

    On a muddy golf course in Winter with little run, the drop in distance is not so much of an issue. Around the greens found them a lot better than a Titleist TruFeel (also scuff easily) which is probably a better comparison. If you are thinking of buying other more budget balls. Don't, just buy the Kirkland.

    I tried these and found the same thing as you but I use them anyway. They are very cheap and costco here in sweden had a sale where you could buy the at half price so I just had to buy a 48 balls🤣 they are will worth the price and you won't find any ball as good in the same price range but more expensive ball will be better for sure.
    It would be better to se the difference between someone with a shower swingspeed aswell. My guess is the distance difference will be a lot smaller. Not everyone has an average carry of almost 290 with a pro v1🙃
    So for someone with an average carry of 220 or so my guess is the difference will be to small to care.

    Have you tried the Wilson FLI? They are £12.99/dozen on Amazon UK. I like them for price and durability.

    I used the Srixon ZStar XV. Never seen a ball cut up like that ever. I play yellow balls so don't know if that made it easier to cut up. But i feel in general that all golf balls including all premium balls are not lasting as long as they used to, Maybe a deliberate ploy to get Golfer's to buy them more quickly and spend more money

    I play these as my winter ball...less upset if I lose them in the muck or plug them never to be seen again. Save the premium balls for summer play, and play a mix spring and fall depending on conditions.

    I use these as my beater balls. When I’m not playing good or just put to practice or play for fun I use the Kirkland. They do scuff up easily but for the price you can’t beat them. I buy one dozen of pro vs and only use them when I’m playing a more serious round

    What I want to know is who's manufacturing the Kirkland ball? Kirkland signature range are just another brand branded as Kirkland.

    Great video, Matt! I think Kirkland is a great choice for most recreational golfers. I would love to see you review the Vice Pro Drip (two color options) golf balls. I went on a trip last year and realized at the hotel the night before that I had forgotten my box of TP5's at home. All the local Walmart had in stock with a urethane cover (plus a good swing speed to compression match - I can't compress any of the X or Plus models) were the Pro Drip from Vice. I was so blown away with how well they felt and performed I switched to using them as my "preferred ball" over ANY other ball. I prefer the blue and red splatter color but both are incredible golf balls and are $20 cheaper per dozen!!! Please check them out!

    I used these for about 3 months. Thought they were good for the price until I played in windy conditions. For me with the wind against they just climbed high and went nowhere. In cross winds they seemed to float on the wind and went in the direction of the wind. They weren't very durable and couldn't be used for more than one round.

    I’ve bought these but I’m not a huge fan. Find they mark up far too easy and don’t feel as good. I’ll be playing the AD333 again after I get through these and start the new season.
