  • This test helps you understand the differences between the Auto and Force AWD settings, combined with the ESP/TC on and off. Plus an axle crossing test using the aforementioned settings.
    0:10 Intro
    0:17 Slope 1 - Auto + TC on
    0:27 Slope 1 - Auto + TC off
    0:39 Slope 1 - Force AWD + TC on
0:51 Slope 1 - Force AWD TC off
    1:08 Slope 2 - Auto + TC on
    1:22 Slope 2 - Auto TC off
    1:34 Slope 2 - Force AWD + TC on
    1:46 Slope 2 - Force AWD + TC off
    2:01 Slope 3 (Stop & go) - Auto + TC on
    2:22 Slope 3 (Stop & go) - Auto + TC off
    2:42 Slope 3 (Stop & go) - Force AWD + TC on
    3:00 Slope 3 (Stop & go) - Force AWD + TC off
3:21 Slope 4 (Plenty of momentum) - Auto + TC on
3:34 Slope 4 (Plenty of momentum) - Force AWD + TC on
3:45 Axle crossing test (same 4 settings as before)

A little clarification: I recently found out that the "Grip Control" / "Force AWD" button doesn't lock the central differential, my bad :( It just puts the TC/ESP electronics to a more sensitive setting mimicking a locking differential, stopping the wheels with less traction (with brakes) and sending power to the wheels with traction.

If you turn off the TC, does the grip control work?
I have a 4wd Ignis, and i always turn off the TC, but I doubt if it is necessary to turn on the grip control or if it doesn't work even if I press the button.

Honestly when I turn the TC off I rely on wheel spin to keep forward momentum. I don't think Grip Control works when TC is off. But I turn it off rarely, only when I'm very stuck or I have to climb a long slope. Otherwise Grip Control helped me a lot in many situations, it's a very good system.

      I suspect you're wrong again.
Both things happen simultaneously, brake the spinning wheel/wheels to increase the torque transmittable to the other wheels and at the same time automatically lock the central viscous joint when front wheels are spinning compared to rear axle.
It isn't an immediate central lock of the two axles but it is obtained with minimum delay once the front axle is faster than the rear one.

    40 000 KM in my 2020 allgrip ignis ....
Awesome , mud, water, very sloopy hills, open fields , no problem, and all with only winter tires.
For me, the best setting is TC on - GC on and maximun speed limited to 30kmh to avoid accidental disconection of GC and only in 1st and 2nd . And for special bad situations, TC - off , GC - on and the extra spinning is enough, specially for climbing in some real risky situations
Thank you for your channel, awaiting to see more videos of your adventures

Hello, I'm glad you like the adventures :) Winter tyres are very good for a lot of situations, I've used mine as AT tyres for 2 years. TC on is good for easy to medium climbs, when you want the climb steeper & longer slopes TC off doesn't cut the power and allows you to climb. The car is 78.000 km now and still going strong.

Vey Good video. I like your Ignis and your offroading adventures. Its good to see how capable the car is even tho its on the cheaper side.

    Nice ignis 👍
Viscous coupler that connects rear driveshaft (rear weels) to the rest of the drive is purely mechanical device and always works the same, no matter what buttons are on or off. Look your self if there are any electronic connections there. All the electronic "transfer" of torque is done by slowing wheels that are spinning too fast, done with brakes - TC

True that viscous coupling is very good 👍 the torque is transfered mechanically, the TC helps with brake vectoring mimicking a "differential lock" so is a good system. But to unleash the full engine potential TC must be turned off to allow the wheels to spin as hard as they can.
