    The Jimny certainly has a big fan club. People who go off road and want a daily drive that's easy to park in tight spots. Small wonder it's loved.

      A friend of mine had a samurai back in the '90s..I can still notice it's dna in this Jimny.
      We all had a major blast with that little suzuki, and that friend just recently bought another samurai and fixed it up, just as neW;..that's how much it was loved all those years ! On- or offroad, it always was a blast !
      I just recently bought a Renegade, nut just a city-going 2x4 standard-sportversion , yet , it's probably just the feeling of having a car that has the right image about it, that took me over.
      The Jimny..cost the same , around 20k , but lacked the comfort I needed and the space to put my 3 german sheps in..

      camaroman101 we do, it's called the samurai. It's the earlier version before the US stopped importing them in 1993 or so. If Suzuki still sold cars including the samurai, that would be it. Think the higher ups in Chrysler at the time had something to do with it, but thats another conspiracy theory. ;)

As an owner yourself, please tell me how this fares on longer tar-road trips, as this will be the deciding factor for me. I think it's funny that as soon as a jeep looses a comparison, jeep fans start saying it mustn't have been working properly. It more than likely was. What happened here is the Jeep (an over hyped 4wd) was put in its place by the jimny, which in my opinion is never given enough credit as a true 4wd. That's just my opinion of course, I'm sure I'll get shouted at by jeep fans, but the test results seem to speak for themselves.

    • @ThePotstillbill
      @ThePotstillbill 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mint Gecko I've noticed that trend too. But.... so many Jeeps not working properly? Way to undermine their own argument. I've seen standard Jimnys go places where modified Landcruisers, Defenders and Jeeps bog down. Sure it has its shortcomings too, but all round, it's a great wee package.

    • @richardstratton1181
      @richardstratton1181 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mint Gecko im a hardcore jeep guy, built 2002 wrangler that i wheel very hard. gotta agree, the jimny is teh better off roader here, the renegade is a glorified awd car once in 4wd. its marketed to people who would never take it off road, but its good for a lil back road blazer or in areas that have inclement weather, snow, heavy rain etc etc.

    • @davidgollop
      @davidgollop 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Richard Stratton good to hear an honest opinion :) I'm a landcruiser 78 fan, love my troopy, to say it's without fault would be crazy. Every 4wd has a compromise in one way or another. The 78 series for example (I'm my opinion) lacks a little in wheel travel.

    • @jimbobjones3391
      @jimbobjones3391 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mint Gecko Funny, I did not notice that in any of the comments on this video - mostly a Toyota-biased perception. Most serious Jeep owners have lots of respect for the Jimny (also the old Samurai, 410 and 413) and are usually very skeptical of new additions or changes to the Jeep range but respect is growing rapidly for the little Renegade.

    • @gro_skunk
      @gro_skunk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mint Gecko also this Jeep is a non locking diff 4 corner wishbone suspension crossover, the most famous jeeps are the wranglers and honestly it would have won this comparison if it was included.
      I love the jimny though it's more my style, something small and capable yet inexpensive and practical.

    We are looking at buying a new Jimny in the Philippines next year or so. It's just me, wife, and young daughter - we will mostly be driving through town, and around the winding, narrow mountain roads - but in a place where roads often turn to gravel or sand, we are thinking the Jimny might be the perfect "family car" for the money. Our second choice for price and size (available in the Philippines) would be the Kia Soul - but it is not a 4x4 so I wonder if it could make the grade (pardon the pun).....

    • @Kiddomike
      @Kiddomike 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the Jimny would be suitable to you and your family. I've been offroading with a group 4x4 enthusiasts that consist of Defenders, Hiluxes, Safaris, FJ Cruisers, Land Cruisers, and, of course, Jimny's. It is an impressive car that is capable on and offroad, based on my observation. Plus, with poorly maintained roads flash floods and narrow and crowded streets, you'll be confident driving your Jimny and will take you and your family safely to the destination.

    Eagerly waiting for 4th Gen Jimny in India! It is small and capable. Though it cannot be used for as a primary family car, it is more than enough to zip past insane traffic and at the same time take on anything you throw at at. Couple that with reliability , you have a winner. Wouldn't mind if it doesn't come with creature comforts (like Navigation, bluetooth....) as long as it has at least an AC, 2 airbags, ESP and ABS. *Fingers Crossed*

      I don't know why Suzuki is loaning out an auto for reviews. Roughly 90% of buyers will go with the manual.
      As for the power deficit, an M16a engine from the Swift Sport will take care of that! Or more sensibly the 1.5 from the older Swifts, or possibly the newer 1.6 from Vitaras etc. but I haven't seen that done yet.

    • @JimnyVR5

      The 4th Gen Jimny is rumored to sport a 1L engine sourced from Baleno RS , which produces around 110Bhp and 170 Nm of torque coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission (at least in India) . Personally, I would have compared the Suzuki Jimny to the Lada Niva and the Renegade to the FIAT 500X (same car with different bodies, built in the same plant in Italy) or at best with the Dacia/Renault Duster + Daihatsu Terios.

    These people don’t know what they are doing and know how to test both these vehicles. Looked like the Jeep was not in awd and 4 low. What they should do next time is put a camera in the car to show they are both in the right gear and 4low or 4 high so show they are testing fairly becuase it sure does not look it to me. When the Jeep was trying to go up the hill first she used no momentum unlike the jinmy guy and sec you only seen the front wheels spinning you did not see the back wheels at all moving. Also if you watch other people videos that do the right thing you can tel the Jeep is very capable. Don’t get me wrong the new jinmy is also very amazing and does a good job to. I can’t wait until someone tests the new jinmy vs the new Jeep renegade.

      Chileans top Jeep altitude record...with modded Suzuki Samurai

      Alex Nunez
      Click image for gallery
      Earlier this month, weposted a story about how German adventurer Matthias Jeschke set the Guinness World Record for highest altitude attained by a four-wheeled vehicle. To recap, the Wrangler Unlimited reached a height of 6,646 meters on the Ojos del Salado volcano in Chile.
      That record has already been broken, pending official verification from Guinness.
      On April 21, the Chilean duo of Gonzalo Bravo and Eduardo Canales drove their modified Suzuki Samurai ( SJ413) past theJeep's high point and stopped at 6,688 meters. In addition to the obvious wheel, tire, and suspension changes evident in the photos, the Samurai also packed a supercharged G16A 4-cylinder underhood

    Didnt see that Jimny rock climbing now did ya,I have driven both and if you know how to drive the jeep is far and away superior, jimny cant cross water deeper than 20 inches the jeep gobbles up 30 not to mention one hard bottom slam and the jimny was out popped drive line jeep is 10 times more durable and reliable both wicked fun to drive though

    Yeah, this review didn't have any bias, what soever... lol. I own the trail hawk, nothing you guys drove requires a second pass in the trail hawk. You CAN give credence to the Jimny without being soo obviously biased that you make yourselves incorrect. The Jimny is obviously capable. But where the Renegade is no Wrangler, the Jimny is outmatched in this match up. Try again, please.

    • @FhangMedia
      @FhangMedia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      completely agree. I have the Desert Hawk version of the Trail Hawk and OMG did I cringe at this. But this seems to be a recurring theme though, people bashing Renegades saying that they cant even go over small bumps like in this video. I do bigger obstacles then that on a regular basis in the club I'm in, and I'll watch Wranglers get stuck on obstacles that I just got over. I'm willing to bet this was a paid promotion for the Jimney, because it sure a hell looked that way.

    • @JackInDaBoxx
      @JackInDaBoxx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FhangMedia Completely agree. The Renegade is very capable and where they said it got stuck it didnt look like they were even trying. The Jeep has a clever 4x4 system and if you give it enough time it will figure out why you are stuck and get you moving.

    To be fair, this isn't a proper comparison. The "Jeep" Renegade is based off of a car design while the Jimny is, and always was a light utility vehicle platform.
    But I do appreciate the video, as I haven't seen it before. Most videos compare it to the Wrangler, but the major issues there really just come down to how much weight and money you want to be in the hole for.

    Its because of all that damn traction control. If you can turn is off and just give it some gas in 4WD itll make it up that hill. It killed all the power to the wheels.

    • @FhangMedia
      @FhangMedia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the second you put the renegade into 4x4 mode, no mater which selection, the traction control turns off, these people obviously didnt have it in 4x4, doesnt help that this is a blatent paid advertisment for the Jimney

    If only Aus didn't have those pesky gun laws I would consider moving there. No bullshit.

    Ihr Engländer vergleicht wieder Äpfel mit Birnen. Ein Zweitürer gegen einen Familien-Geländewagen. Als Single kann man sich gerne den Jimny kaufen, aber nicht mit Frau und zwei Kindern. Mit dem Renegade kommt man besser voran weil dieser Differentialsperren hat und der alte Jimny nicht, außer der neue Jimny. Man kommt mit Familie überall durch. Ich glaub ernsthaft ihr könnt nicht fahren.
