For real though, Dave- in a morass of tube snobs and elitists, it's awesome to see someone reviewing and waving the flag for solid state technology and old school gear that we otherwise wouldn't get a chance to check out.
Dave, Just absolutely beautiful emotional soul crying, controlled screaming feedback pouring from your fingers, the guitar, the speakers and watching you feel and interact with every note. I genuinely reckon Orange are the most consistently brilliant amp company out there, I've only been using vox and fenders but it may be time to make the change because my god have these solid state orange amps been killing it, the valve ones have too they're just out of my price range currently
They are closer in sound to the tube counterparts than any other brand of tube amp I've heard. They sound like an Orange amp.
Just do yourself a favor and get one. I've used everything from Vox to Randall, orange sounds the best to my ears and for the price, it's a steal.

The thing I think I love about Dave, is how his playing is more or less lets play a thing and role with it and just see where it goes and he lets the individual guitar shine in that respect !

Saw the announcement today by Orange. My first thought was "I would love to hear it played by Dave Simpson". Well thanks Dave. Knowing that you can make a toaster sound great, I also know that your thoughts on the reviewed amps (especially the solid state ones) are quite often close to mine. And very inspiring! Just an idea: maybe someday a CR120 SC120 comparison. Thanks again.

So very happy this is a thing. I had to let go of my Red Bear full stack a while back and I’ve been missing that full body amplifier massage haha. Now I can budget in two ppc412’s and grab a head that won’t be severely painful on the wallet for a very similar tone to the 120. Fantastic playing as well, love how you got into that so much, cheers!

What a great amp and I loved your playing as it brought out so many different aspects of the amp. My son's first gigging amp was a Orange CR60 but I always felt a DI would have been useful. His 18th birthday is next month so this just may replace his CR60. Great Job Dave and Orange. 👍

I bought my lil' Crush for my home studio - just to have one each of the Big 4 (Orange, Vox, Fender, Marshall) as a physical presence - on the back of your review. I wasn't convinced it would be a real Orange, but you and your beautifully played demo proved otherwise.

Brilliant, just brilliant. Looks like I'll have to get the SC100 to sit alongside my CR120. Totally agree about that Les Paul tone especially - loved it. Thought it had overtones of Koss at times, most fitting given it was his birthday on Tuesday. Great stuff again, thank you so much.

I’m looking at this for a post rock/metal thing. The cleans are shockingly good, the FX loop will work wonders, and the gain is excellent!

I just bought a cr 120 (because of this channel) and tried it out at a few sizable outdoor shows, and sure enough, it totally kicks ass all over my tube amp (an ‘88 Laney AOR). Its clarity, tone, power, responsiveness…way easier to play. Excited to try a Super Crush now.

I upgraded practice amps to an Orange Crush 60 and put a V30 in it. In a short time, I became disgusted with my playing because everything had the same tone and I knew it wasn't the amp's fault. I found these awesome videos and I started working thorough the series and was able to duplicate the tones Dave was getting almost spot on.
How do you like the v30 vs the votw stock speaker? Considered doing something similar, maybe with a celestian or something, yet undecided.
@@jeradrhone8773 Ive done it - Highly recommended , sound ( smoother Gain structure ) & volume improvement guaranteed , Keep in mind new speakers need some 20 -30 hours "Break in -Playing time" till they reach their full sound -volume potential .

Just bought a SC100 and I’m blown away. Snatched it up new for $450. Best amp purchase I’ve made in awhile. Dave you just kill it with these reviews! The gain is incredible period, especially for a SS amp! The cleans are glorious, the reverb is very lush and usable. The 3-band eq is great, no one knob job. Only grip is that it didn’t come with the FS-2 foot switch. I’m running mine through a Marshall 1960AHW with g12h-30’s, it’s simply amazing. If you’re on the fence go buy one now! Play loud, and it can play whisper quiet. Either volume it sounds the same! Its brilliant.

Killer review, Dave! You are the Crush King! My only caveat with this new one is that it's 70w into 16ohms (Orange or Marshall Cab). Whereas the CR120 is 120 into 16ohms AND 8 ohms. Shouldn't matter for most applications, but for my stoner rock/doom project, it might. I had to use my CR60 once in a pinch and got it pretty maxed out. Anyway, thank you for the joy you bring to music, gear, and life! Always enjoy your content, brother! Thanks for the thoughtful review. I may grab one of these at some point, but you were largely responsible for me getting my first CR120. Take care, buddy!

@@pattillo21 Thank you and I the same for you. This amp got popular really fast. The Ty Tabor video is what caught my attention. The tone he was getting is exactly what I dialed in right away and I'll be damned I got the same exact sound. I run pedals to get my own sound, but if all I had was this amp and no effects I would still be in good shape.
@@pattillo21 I'm playing my modified Fender Player Series Floyd Rose Strat with a single Seymour Duncan TB 6 distortion humbucker, Kramer 1985 Reissue Baretta, Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder with the EMG Hot70s and my Epi LP with DiMarzio Super Distortion humbuckers and Explorer with dual Seymour Duncan SH 6s. All of these guitars sing a different way through this head, but it sounds amazing. Plugging in my Jackson King V and my BC Rich Gunslinger today.
Update.
I've spent some time with the combo version and used it at a loud blues rock jam.
Even around the house I could hear the amp was giving something special, but that speaker,
when pushed at the jam was epic.
I was instantly reminded of how similar my old mesa boogie mk1 reissue sounded and felt when in front of it.
That instantly confused me because this is supposed to be a brit box, but the EQ is that good and the gain structure so well designed that most kinds of blues, rock and hard rock will come easily to the guitarist fortunate enough to play one.
Therefore, it has a solo singing quality that just begs for any Carlos licks to be unearthed and notes held for sustaining.
Then, with a tweak in the EQ dept, I got my Greeny tones as well as with any other amp I've tried.
I also owned a tonemaster deluxe and apart from its haunting reverb, the Crush ...well, it crushes it.
The reverb is a mix of spring and hall to these ears and is sumptuous, but fender will always reign here.
Btw, this thing totally gigtastic (in volume, not in unwanted noise).
This is one loud, efficient, relatively light, fairly priced, well made professional tone generator.
I've played lots of pro gear through the decades, some good and some utter garbage.
This remains my favourite thus far and continues to put that all elusive dopey grin on my chops every time I plug in.

@ Jeff makor. Just got my combo yesterday. Agreed, it has so many similarities to the Boogie Mk series and I've owned several. This amp is up there with them tonally in my opinion but is also very versatile. It also lets the character of different guitars come through. Great amp and I'm considering buying another to run in stereo .

@@dingalarm good question, I should clarify that I’ve owned several tube amps over the years, a few fenders and a Marshall jcm 900 that I sold probably 10 years ago because it kept breaking down, and since then Ive owned nothing but solid state amps except for two orange hybrid amps (terror stamp and micro dark, which are the same amp) and i love how certain manufacturers like orange are making analog solid state circuits that sound very close to their flagship stuff. I love solid state amps mostly because they sound really good and are much less likely to need repairs or service after years of use.
I’ve got a Marshall mg 100 hdfx that I bought for $40 at a pawn shop that’s got tons of power and headroom and will probably just keep on running for years.
That being said, although I do love oranges hybrid and solid state crush series a lot, after getting a proper tube head back in my hands, I had forgotten how delicious and creamy an all tube amp could be, since the last time I had one I was far less discerning about my tone. The rocker 15 terror sounds incredible, and I had forgotten what I was missing .I used to play mainly Marshall but nowadays i tend to prefer oranges.

The first amp I had was a DIY (self-built) 20W solid-state head/cab with a clean pre-amp. This is before I understood or appreciated overdrive/distortion in a guitar amp. It worked, but sounded very bland, with a lot of background hiss.
I eventually bought a Peavey Classic 20 valve combo, with the naive (?) idea that *only* a valve amp will give a decent overdriven (edge of breakup) and distorted tone. It was OK, but it had a problem (sudden drop in volume after the amp warmed up) that even Peavey USA couldn't rectify 😲 It also sounded too distorted, so I replaced the 12AX7 with a 12AU7. Build quality, IMHO was also not the best. I just play at home, so I've accepted it, as-is.
In recent years, I've read all about how solid-state amps (including modelling amps) are really good. So I'd like to try them one day. I'd be most interested if they can simulate the "edge of breakup" tone 😊

Wow!, Dave, I so enjoy your soulful drifts. You lose me sometimes when you do a bit too much and break the trance. But dude, you have the gift so many seek. I wish some recording guru would come capture your wandering and professionally produce your work. It really is tremendous. I'm getting it next paycheck. It does everything in flying colors and isn't known for the same harsh quality of marshall and other metal amps. It has the signature stoner sound that is so full.
This IS my main amplifier for everything!! Its the ONLY AMP that actually captures the sound in my head!! I've had lots of amps this is the ONE!! $499.00 USA? I’ve watched this a few times since the the day you released it. My own Super Crush is to be delivered in a couple weeks. Yes Dave, you’ve done it to me again. The best part for me was Mr White with the gain and channel volume maxed and the eq on zero. I always had trouble getting my Strats to have that defined, in your face grind….until you turned me onto Orange! Thanks again Dave!!!! 😎🤘
