I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS WITH MY BROTHER BACK IN 1992 IT BREAKS MY HEART THAT I'LL NEVER GET THE CHANCE TO PLAY IT WITH HIM EVER AGAIN. R.I.P MICHAEL I'LL ALWAYS TREASURE THOSE FOND MEMORIES
It’s crazy how video games and their music stick with you through life. I often remember these melodies and think of simpler times! Being a kid was awesome!
Same here always go for the two player games so me and my brother can kickass together. I love the fact that it slow you can feel ever kick and punch and flykick. Iam in my 40s and want to get back in the fight the streets need us
I think this game is very underrated. The combat system is completely unique in the beat 'em up genre, and requires you to use strategy and counter attacks to be effective. The slower pace gives it a more tactical fighting experience that no other game has since replicated. Just imagine what Technos could've done with more development time. Also, the soundtrack is a kick'n up-tempo affair that gets the adrenaline flowing right out of the gate. Like I said: underrated. Edit: forgot to mention how much I love the animation in this game. There are lots of little details in every frame that make you feel like a badass when you're throwing down.
Naw, its rated just right. Its sluggish and could've been programmed much better. SNES got a much more powerful system than the Sega Genesis. And yet what it produce was a sub-par beat-em up game, with a weak background track. Sega Genesis did much better with the first _Streets of Rage_ (1991) and _Streets of Rage 2_ (1992), the latter coming out at the same time as Super Double Dragon. Tradewest really dropped the ball massively with SDD, Im sorry to say.
@@willia3rI agree. One of the best things about SNES was the beat 'em ups. I think Streets of Rage 2 is the best one of that generation; but overall SNES had better beat 'em ups, and lots of them. Sega only had a few. I wouldn't call SDD the weakest beat 'em up on SNES, but it's definitely lower tier than many other superior options. It didn't feel like a true next gen 90's beat 'em up, it felt more like a dressed up 80's beat 'em up. As poorly as SDD sold, it wasn't the game that killed the series. That game was DD5 which was a lousy SF2 ripoff.
This is the best Double Dragon game period.. The gameplay mechanics, the music, the style and the vibe is just perfect. I'm still surprised to this day that we never got another sequel in the same style or heck a remaster of this absolute gem would be amazing.
Me and my friend used to play this game all the time on SNES! Whether you were beating guys up with your martial arts moves or smacking them with whatever weapons you could get your hands on, this game was a blast!
One of the most challenging and formulaic beat 'em titles. On single player, you must know exactly what you're doing and how the characters movesets function. This is not a button masher. It held this game back from greatness but just like back then, I still appreciate the difficulty. The enemy AI makes it highly inaccessible for casual players of beat 'em ups. Two players made it easier but it wasn't exactly a cake walk if you're partner wasn't very good.
Had many a great time playing this with my dad. Got my old snes back up and running, need to get this again and get the old man down for a game. Cheers for the upload.
Imagine playing this game for the first time and saying to yourself wow these graphics are insane….what a time to have lived and see video games progress drastically with each console ❤
I used to come home from school in the second grade and play this game like every single day. That's 24 years ago now. This video makes me feel a kid again. And especially hearing the music.
Use to play this with my cousin, we were like brothers when we were young. This street fighter II, turtles arcade when it came to the nes etc. Great memories, now he's in jail for over 20y smh
I always did like this game. Yeah, now it's common knowledge just how much was cut, but at the time, the game still felt complete enough to where you'd never have guessed how much was left on the cutting room floor. It certainly didn't stop me from spending a significant part of my teenage years attempting to beat it without using a continue (came close, never quite pulled it off). I even like the somewhat slower pace; gives you a little room to put that (at the time) massive arsenal of moves you had to use for a little extra style. =3
Ever hear of OpenBor? Sort of the RPGmaker for brawlers. Well, a fan went and made his own remake, with all the cut stuff and more. Legend of Double Dragon, it's called.
One of the best games to ever come out for the SNES…my favorite part of the game was when they do their own version of the Tatsumaki Senpu-kyaku (Ken and Ryu’s hurricane kick)
Even being as clearly rushed as Super Double Dragon was, it's still an excellent game and a vast improvement over Double Dragon III. If only Technos had had the time to finish it! Anyone else stoked about the official US physical release of Return of Double Dragon on SNES later this month?
Poison No, it's the Japanese release. It came out later there than the US version, so in the interim they continued working on it. We got 1.0, that's all.

Super Double Dragon is the most superiorly magnifcient game out of all the Double Dragon games ever created, there's a variety of moves incorporated therein compared to all the other Double Dragon beat em up games. I enjoyed the arcade versions of Double Dragon 1 and 2 tremendously, however, Super Double Dragon and Return Of Double Dragon on SNES remains the most splendidly superb video games in the Double Dragon series from my point of view.
The amount of moves you can do in this game is impressive. Lots of of beatem ups just seem to use 3 buttons (attack and jump). This used several combinations with block techniques and a charge meter for some big attacks too. I don’t understand the development of this game but it had to of been several teams or severely rushed because one aspect (the combat) way over shadows everything else. Me and my brother use to love this game. We played it all the time when we were young. Now in our late 30s this is a fond memory
I actually like Super Double Dragon more than Final Fight, though Final fight 3 is pretty good.
I use to play it with my brother too. That was awesome, I want to play it with my brother again.
30s as well this game was too slow. Compared to dd2 the revenge nes

I remember being so amped up with the truck mission number 4 great music action at every corner amazing!!!!
I'll never get over this game's counter system. I don't think any other 2D brawler ever did something this stylish, not even the later DD games.
Definitely
The arm lock is so stylish. You can really feel the impact of the guy coming in to smash you and you catch his arm and lock it
Actually Streets Of Rage 2 is the only game I know of at that level but you can get your ass handed to you on the hardest and mania difficulty level.

This game looks very polished. Smooth animations and a lot of detail to see here.
you can tell, the creators had a lot of time, love and money and animations that they put into this game, man i love this game
Agreed. If only the gameplay was faster and more fluid like Streets of Rage 2 this would be a goat beatemup

Greatest game ever man. Thank you dad for playing with me as a kid!
Needs to be remastered and re-released!
I agree, it should be on the current platforms.
Hell yeah. That double dragon neon was trash.
It kind of was. Look up "Legend of the Double Dragon".
I'm surprised it wasn't on the SNES Classic.
Remasters are always terrible. Just tweak a few things, like give it some cutscenes, and replace that weak punch sound with something meatier.
