Double Dragon IV Two-Player Playthrough (Switch)

- This is a capture of me and a friend playing through Double Dragon IV for the Nintendo Switch. I'm player one (Billy) and Drew is player two (Jimmy).
Even though Double Dragon IV was originally released for other systems back in January of 2017, it took until early September 2017 for it to release on the Switch. As a huge Double Dragon fan, I immediately bought the game on its release date, and I've been playing it since then with my friend Drew.
This game provides a decent challenge, so this is the first time I've actually beaten it. However, I have mixed feelings about this title. Even though this is a good game overall, it feels half-assed, like the developer wasn't even trying.
Arc System Works made quite a bold announcement when they declared that they were releasing "Double Dragon IV" (before, Super Double Dragon was essentially the fourth game in the series). The title alone meant that this game was attempting to erase Double Dragon V from the series' history and start over, so it had a lot to live up to.
However, when I first saw the footage of Double Dragon IV, I was shocked to see the same basic graphical style and characters from Double Dragon II on the NES. I thought that was quite lazy. I actually wondered if the game had started out as a fan game or "rom hack" that was later purchased outright by Arc System Works.
This game sadly lacks ambition. Double Dragon Advance was far better and far more ambitious, even though it was basically a remake of the original arcade game. And although it doesn't really matter, the story in this game doesn't really make any sense.
Notwithstanding these issues, I do feel Double Dragon IV is worth the measly $7 that I paid. The two-player mode is fun, and the combat works well. It's just a shame that this game doesn't really advance the series much. Enjoy the footage.
Recorded with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 and the Switch's HDMI cable at native 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. I'm using a Real Arcade Pro V Hayabusa joystick and Drew is using a Pro Controller.
The Flying Knee hits are one of the most satisfying moves ever
Sureeeee
Hellyeaahhh !
It’s been very helpful since the second Double Dragon
The strongest technique in the sequel.
And that hurricane kick and uppercut too!
This looks way more like a fan mod than an official sequel.
@@Giacomo_Leopardi No it's an official game.
they realized how perfect dd2 was and decided to copy that style instead of dd3 👍
@@MagicDonut00nah dd3 animations were lot good
Yeah this one feels like an unfinished demo. Im glad I only paid like $4 for it 😂
Arcade type
Double Dragon is what always made playing "Intendo" so great in the 80s.
That's funny you put it like that. Forever had my mom always pronounced it as such lol Intendo
They need to make one like the original 1987 Arcade game. That was the best one.
Damn. I didn't even know this exists lol. Just got done watching a play through of part 3 and it lead me here
Jimmy and Bimmy back at it
this game is a gem.
it's Double Dragon at its core.. not the best but it servs as a great instalment..and the music.. WOW. BEAT THE GAME TO ACCESS OTHER FIGHTERS.
The music is trash in my ears and I loved DD1,2,3's osts.
this is just like dd2 reworked. looks more like mod than real game
Looks like a real game to me.
@@gr8gmr When will you stop defending this game?

Daamnn, this game is brings back some good ol memories, it reminds me when im still 7 yo play old DD XD
what
@@nevrodrain i mean the NES version, DD 1
Great play through. I really expected better graphics and gameplay. It's like someone got ahold of the NES DD2 game assets and made their own game in a weekend.
I am for sure getting this game, thanks for letting me know.

Looking at Streets of Rage 4. I feel there is lost potential with Double Dragon 4.
It's good enough.
@@gr8gmr not when it was released in 2017 .
@@JohnnyJohnJon83 Nothing wrong with that. The game is still good no matter what.
I prefer to think that DD Neon is the real DD4.
Even though it is the most overlooked game of the century.
I guess they can’t use that Arnold looking guy cause he fell on the chopper and died in the other video. 😜😜😜
Double Dragons IV is really super Double Dragon for snes
There's no "IV" in that title.
@@gr8gmr I know but I added it anywhere because it is double dragon IV
Yes it is
Whoever is the jimmy player has a lot of rage towards enemies
yes
Damn right

This game is super cool. All the enemies from all double dragons and the weapons don't disappear and bravo once he defeated he doesn't revive himself
Back in the day if i had this game, i would have been very popular among my friends. Most everyone played was double dragon 3.
I never played this game, but whatever people may think of it, I think it's a good thing that you're confronted by more than just the maximum of two enemies at the same time, like in the first two games. I can't remember if part 3 had that as well, but I think so. Either way, there are more characters on screen at the same time now. I can understand that this game doesn't get good reviews. It doesn't look like the amount of moves you can make use of are not upgraded much; I've seen only one new move. And the enemies are stupid enough to fall for the classic tornado kick every time; they are making it easier for you. There seem to be no real bosses in the levels. However, it looks like you can be confronted by multiple characters that were bosses in previous games at the same time (that's cool). Looking at the larger on-screen enemies (including multiple boss cameos) and their moves, this game should be harder. And 'credits'? Well, essentially you seem to get a total of 27 lives together; 3 lives of the two characters each plus 7 credits times 3 lives. No wonder the game might be easy.
BY THE POWER OF THE DRAGON!
Me acuerdo de aquellos bueno tiempos cuando lanzabas un cuchillo y este se enterraba e la gente y salpicaba sangre.
(I remember those old good times when you throw a knife and the knife stab on the guy and splat some blood)
I still wonder why they didn’t use the arcade DD2 style instead, since that’s what the game should look like, if they didn’t have to deal with the 8 bit limitations of the home consoles of that era.
You take care that sideI'll take care this side pal.
The ultimate childhood brocode feeling 😂
I loved this game because it's brutal and the music is awesome 👊 👊!!!!!!
38:24 we dont use the art of setsouken to kill people... Even though we killed on our way to you 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😁😂😂😂
I am dead now

Any enemies that flew out of bounds - they are just hiding.
Double Dragon um dos meus favoritos
Billy and Jimmy 🥺❤️❤️
"If you're thinking like that, then you're already half way there!" *abrupt end*
And then they had sex, the end? 🤷♂️
They got married 2 hours later and Casey is expecting twins, Marion can't wait for the baby shower its going to be so. much. fun.
Let us all observe a moment of silence for the passing of "Machine Gun" Willy.
THE NOSTALGIA :V
They already fucked up with not including that heavy "Gah-Nop" sfx that Technos is notorious for. Along with the character fall sound efx. Thats no good..
03:21 😂
I dont give as shit what anyone says. This is one of my favorite DD games. Moves way easier to pull off then say, Super or Advance.
I love Double Dragon, but out of all the DDs I'm struggling to beat this one I just made it to Mission 11 and I lost smh frustrating as hell man
The enemies cannot reach the absolute bottom of the screen, so it's a useful exploit for avoiding damage.
I wish they fix that so people don’t cheat .
Can someone tell me how to do the spinning headbutt move on the Switch?? such a badass attack!
First press b plus right to headbutt and then press either x,a or b while headbutting
this is more of a remake of the first game than Double Dragon IV
the hardcore game master the 2nd one
great game we get brand new nes double dragon and ppl hated on it we prob wont get another so sad this is a great nes double dragon
Why does the flying knee sound like a bird?
😂😂😂😂😂
Muy buen juego 🎉
3:37 almost game over
I'd love a new Ninja Gaiden along these same lines. Looks and plays like the old NES Ninja Gaidens.
this is great and all, but there´s just something in the arcade version that makes it so unique..
If you stay at the bottom of the screen, enemies can't hit you. Helpful when someone is shooting a gun at you
Wild stuff
I loved Double Dragon 2, but they could have updated the sprites and sound effects to match the soundtrack.
To be honest, I think the Twin Black Abobo are the strongest enemy which are overpowered. Just look at their fight at 31:50 ...... Also 32:24 it is a kill move man. The Twin Sisters are not strong as them....
Yes, its very hard abobo black like final boss double dragon2 revenge for the past
I need to tell you something even if this comment was made after 3 years. Yes the strongest enemy is Abobo but the true strongest one isn't the 2 Abobo at the beginning of Mission 11. The 2 Abobo reinforce the attack strength at the former abobo that the players had defeated. For example, the normal punches and kicks deals around 0.4 damage like the normal abobo. The dash attack deals around 1.7 damage which is from the green hulk - lookalike abobo (The boss at Mission 6.). Same thing goes with the jump clap I think. Finally, the super jump smash attack and the super jump tornado smash attack I from the hardest abobo at Mission 8 (The sub - boss.) which deals 6 damage. The strongest Abobo (Or the strongest enemy in the game.) is at 23:46. This abobo can deal very massive damage like a single punch or kick can deal 2 to 3 damage. The dash attack can deal slightly around 3 damage. The jump clap attack can deal 3 to 4 damage. The super jump smash move and the super jump tornado smash attack can deal a bit more than 6 damage. They killed him so quick that we don't even got a chance to see it. But for the health I think it still goes to the 2 black Abobos...... If you don't belive it you can check out other people's videos of Double Dragon 4.
Also I forgot to say that Casey (One of the okada sisters.) had mentioned that they are too weak at the end of Mission 6 and that's why they are a bit weaker than Abobo.
All these years later & the graphics still look like it's in the 80's & it's still 2D, look at the evolution of Pokemon even they got wit the times, I'm disappointed
16:35 awesome the Abobo
Still a step up from Double Dragon 2 Remake for Xbox 360 from a couple years back. Was this the real sequel we've waiting so long for in the DD franchise? That's a good question. I like this but at the same time a little mixed about it. I do like how they retained the DD2 look and feel. With modern sounding game music in tact. But I guess my critique about this is, they could have made into a 3D and modern looking sequel but keep the spirit of the Double Dragon we grew up playing. I think this game also retcons Super Double Dragon for SNES, as the intended true sequel for DD?
I guess in the way how Streets of Rage 4 was both modern and retro, right? Or if 3D, then Mega Man 11? I’m for pixel art but they could’ve done..more here. It feels too basic and almost rushed.
Was that the Korean looking Double Dragon for Xbox 360? Maybe not Korean but the main characters Bimmy and Jimmy lol had that look that artists over there there interpret as the tough guy look.
Lack of running and wall jump (dd3 style) killed it for me
Damn right
When did Dan become part of double dragon? 😜
Why the creators of this game didn't go for the arcade's dd1 & dd2 graphic sprites? instead, for some odd reason they rather use NES console sprites.
Trying to get the online play working it doesn’t work. Google has nothing. Trying to play online with a friend.
should had stuck to the 8bit sound track...sigh. and the SUPER KNEE needs more umpgh feel to it.
What system is this? NES? Never heard of this game
You think the NES could handle music like that? It can't. And I know it's hard to tell, but this is also beyond NES graphical ability as well. The resolution is much higher here than on the NES. This was released for PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, though Playstation 1 could have easily handled this. Super Nintendo could come pretty close with the graphics, just in Standard Definition, so 25% of the screen would not be visible. But it definitely couldn't handle the music of this quality.
@@guitaro5000 yep this is definitely something after 2005 cause u could only fight 2 enemies at one time on th e nes
best !! game !! in !! NES !! history !! ❤️❤️
The Pointed Hand without sound looks strange

(Technōs Japan Corporation)
Techno Japan corporation is already gone long Time ago
What am i seeing?....looks EXACTLY like DD2 characters but in a different game with moves integrated from part 1🤔
Feels like a mod vibe with certain movements and the way enemies look and react off hits.....somethings off 😅 but awesome none the less
The music's great
No blood at the knife throw?
It's just DD 2 from nes continued?
Padrisimo el juego, pero me quedo a deber la música. Era mejor la anterior incluso la de Android donde vienen todos los double dragon de árcade son remasterizadas y es una joya.
Awesome
Why they took out that THUD SOUND EFFECT !!!
Music is better than the game. Characters move funny with strange sounds
Not sure what you mean by that. Characters move just fine.
i love mission 11 abobo
I like the remix of different DD game graphics. But gameplay feels a bit too clunky. Jumping looks more like floating.
7:49 Lol
rofl
❤😂❤😂❤❤😂
Looks more like part 2 then part 4 !!!
Well, part 2 is one of the best games in the series, so that's not a bad thing, is it?
DD4?!?!? THE GEM???
What happened with the music 😢
Es como volver a los 80' n.n
what on earth was that ending??
Este juego es oficial?
yeah, shockingly its official
3:24 hell no 😂
I have this game on Super Console X Pro
Still find it hard to understand what is wrong with the franchise. The whole game looks more like fan project with zero budget. Everything, I mean characters, backgrounds and cutscenes looks so random in terms of style.
Music and the cut scenes seem American made
How is this game 1.2 GigaByte? 🤪
The game is very cool
Played it on my iPad pro
Playing for nintendo or mame still not different. Only graphic is the different. Not just like street fighter totally different from control also graphic
I'm glad they switched back to the dd2 characters. dd3 was shite.
This is on nintendo switch. How?
no its switch cant you read
Прикольно
Arc system work who made this games??? Tf
Duong song long double dragon
stage in double dragon iv plot base on battletoad and double dragon but remake everythings again and fill new stage in 1st to before middle stage
bravo au créateur de se nouveau bébé.. apres la deception du 4 sur super nes ( mode combat moue), ont retrouve enfin ce qui a fait de se jeux un BEST, coup de genou , etc... il manque juste la qualiter graphique du super nes...:)
Double dragon
this is my opinion but dd2 is like more better
Es de súper nes
The story in the game does make sense
Music sux , dd1,2 had great beats , it matters ,
Dude it looks like a fangame! Or like a "project for the new interns" :/
And the music...
Looks like an official game to me. Also love the music.
The ending is weak as hell for a game that takes nearly an hour to beat.
