How 3M Convinced Me the Forever Chemicals I Found in Human Blood Were Safe

  • Decades ago, Kris Hansen showed 3M that its PFAS chemicals were in people’s bodies. Her bosses halted her work. As the EPA now forces the removal of the chemicals from drinking water, she wrestles with the secrets that 3M kept from her and the world.

      It doesn’t matter. Everyone in Colorado has already accepted it into their bodies.
      Colorado would need to ban all plastics, silver nitrate and nickel cadmium from being spread into the air everyone there breathes.
      Micro plastics are released from all recycled plastics, crumpling a grocery bag, touching the bags and even new bottled waters have it within them.
      Colorado simply is spitting in an ocean .

      We were propagandised about orange in the eighties and thought it only applied to Vietnam.
      I knew it was LRRP's and ground aircrew that were most affected on the US side.
      I noticed parallels - my parents couldn't have any more children, my mum died young from cancer, I was born with a congenital defect not shown in my medical history, my dad served 2 tours in long-range recon during the Malayan Emergency (south central Asia) in which Britain used weaponised dioxins on an industrial scale during the Truman administration under Churchill (con) and Attlee (lab) 1948-1960 causing millions of birth defects in Laos and Malaysia, according to Google/Wikipedia but not according to any British politician ever.

      Hydrazine F16 jet fuel? Hydrazine is a hypergolic rocket fuel, used in aerospace industry with utmost precautions, not a jet fuel and doubt it is used for anything on F-16, or any other aircraft for that matter...

    • @lobsterbark
      @lobsterbark 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +26

      @@OYeahanHydrazine is used on the f16 apu. As a backup power generator to power flight systems in the event of engine failure. Which is more common that you might think because the f16 consumes a lot of fuel and has small fuel tanks.

    • @OYeahan
      @OYeahan 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@lobsterbark "it was not studied until (...) developed symptoms" - that seems strange, I would need to check but seems quite safe to assume that hydrazine was used in aerospace likely since '50s and it was quite obvious back then that it is extremely toxic. Hydrazine APU in case jet runs out of fuel? For what, for ejection seat power :D? Unless you're lucky to run out on high altitude then not likely to glide land a fighter jet haha. But interesting, need to check. Why would they decide to use hydrazine instead of regular APU or batteries is strange. Maybe to give you a chance to restart the engine, and hydrazine APU is more reliable and lighter and maybe cheaper... Still stupid, toxic stuff in potential wartime conditions

    PFOS and PFAS, “Forever Chemicals,” were in the firefighting foam in the 1970’s. This foam was used at Wurtsmith Air Force Base, MI and hundreds of other military bases and Naval ships around the world. The firefighters would set a fuel fire in a field on base and train their personnel on use of the foam to extinguish the hard to put out fires. The foam was then washed away and went into the groundwater. This was where the base, and the community got their water, from the underground aquifer. Millions of people, just in the area of Oscoda, MI, and probably billions worldwide, were slowly poisoned by these chemicals.
    I have nodules in my lungs, as do many of my fellow veterans. So many have lung diseases, smokers and non-smokers alike. Well, If you know the movie 'Erin Brockovich' with the great Julia Roberts in it, then it easier to understand. I live in Belgium, here we have a city called 'Zwijndrecht'. 3M has a production facility in that city and was releasing way more harmful waste in the water than allowed. Particular substance called Pfas, which stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. Really bad for health, environment and so on. They got caught, 3M says and stand with the fact that they got permission from politician(s?). Prolly bribes. Go figure (sarcasm). Anyhow, 3M was forced to pay up by Belgian government. So both parties came to an agreement where 3M will spend €571.000.000 to completely sanitize the grounds of Zwijndrecht, 950 homes of pfas pollution. This was 2 years ago and it's still going on.

    Roundup too, I guess. Years ago a rep drank from a glass he said contained roundup. Roundup was said to deactivate upon contact with the soil. Clearly one of the safer herbicides. ( although anything that kills all plant life is sorta scary to me )

    When they had a plant on 7th Ave. in Saint Paul in the 50's and 60's that made adhesive tape, among other stuff, the air for blocks around stank with a pestilential , acidic throat-blocking stench. My dad worked in the fire station a few yards away from that long, enormous 3M building till retirement but he was lucky, lived healthy till a stroke at 88. Even then they were a huge company and when they built that industrial park out Roseville way, they hired lots of kids right out of high school, and enabled them time to take university classes, some going right through to getting their doctorate with full pay and enough time off. That was unusual for a big company then and earned them a lot of goodwill among Minnesotans. No one talked about pollution then.
