She's 70 now, more gorgeous, glamorous and stylish than ever. She's timeless.... Thank you Kim!! My youth in NYC was so much better with you and Sonic Youth in it.
It's a great book - nailed it in a day as it was so damn interesting and well written She comes across like a very intelligent, artistic and honest person I came out of it with a greater respect for her as an artist Fascinating
I think that the saddest part of the book is when she mentions that we are just as conservative today as we were in the past. It makes you wonder, can music change the world? I believe it certainly can have an influence because it can spread ideas, but I don't think it can do it alone.
@@Jimmy_Widders_Hunt what really scares me is that the Liberal Left side (which at one time I considered myself) are now the ones censoring and cheering on authoritarian rule.
@@brucifer0 Yep. A few years back I considered myself firmly planted in the left. But the outrage over every little thing, ultra biased media and push for censorship has been a wake up call. Remember when it was the ultra conservative religious nutters that pulled that shit? What happened? I don't consider myself right or left these days. And as a gay man I've found that both sides are looking to fuck you over in one way or another.

best rock n roll book i've ever read. i wasn't as stoked about reading a rock history as i've been since i read "hammer of the gods" - which is probably a crap book but i didn't have pubes yet when i read it. kim is great, always thought she was cool, after i read the book i love her
Same here. When I heard she wrote a book I went to the library and they actually had it!! I read the whole thing in about 3 days. I felt like she held back on the bullshit that she went through with Thurston and his affair. I went through an affair with my spouse and I understand the pain that comes with infidelity and the horror that you watch unfold as your family falls apart before your eyes... And the hate that you feel toward the "other woman". With that being said I think Kim handled it with class and let the reader make up their minds about Thurston. What I remember most was her writing about laying in bed when the affair was out in the open and Thurston sleeping next to her and they did not touch. They both knew. That part was so touching in a painful way. She was brutally honest about her brother and the things she endured because of him. Sonic youth was the first c.d I ever owned, white trash and no star. Given to me at a neighbors house. It changed my life. It changed the way I listened to music and how I dressed and led me to grunge and the 90s. I was 13...so thank you Kim. ...and Thurston will always be an assailed in my book...
It wasn't an easy read; although I read English usually without even realizing it's not my mother tongue (Dutch here). She's just not a very affluent/engaging writer. I don't regret reading it though, it gave great insight. And it did make me realize I won't ever go to a Thurston Moore Band-concert.

I saw her promoting her ego through media platforms that were taken from a personal friend and cut and spliced into her particular art therapist approach to a palatable alternative lifestyle that you can find in a new England village of yore. I think it's why I work for her.
There is nothing that distinguishes Americans from Brits so much as your unquestioning belief in the power of therapy through talking or writing. That belief has in recent times unfortunately infected my culture as well and I see little evidence that it has any real long term positive benefit.

So, you loved Sonic Youth why? She has always been an integral part of the band and their sound would not have evolved the way it did without her. Did you just like Thurston's and Lee's guitar playing and pretended the bass wasn't necessary? Don't quite get your point, but I feel her "talentless and uninteresting" contributions probably formed your 'loving' opinions about this band. Sorry her vocals and instrumentation, as well as performance, wasn't to your liking, but at least your 'love' went there.?!!?
Kim always was the heart of SY. You can't love them without loving her. What's funny is she is the only one of them post breakup who is still making interesting music.
@metube Have you ever thought about not being an asshole for once? Just because you leap to judgment without trying to understand doesn't justify your sexist viewpoint.
@metube I agree with you. Kim is intelligent and creative...if people think she is boring it is probably because she doesn't show her ass or scandalize her life purposefully.
Sometimes I think the book is her closure of sonic youth and Thurston. She is doing good at her art and body/head. still Kim. ❤️
It’s so hard to believe that she is 63 years old in this interview. She looks amazing

Well you can see that with the likes of Trump being elected. We've definitely become more conservative in the last few years.
Ebbs and flows... One thing for sure things will always change. Hopefully we keep progressing 🤞🤞

Taylor maybe that "high hopes" were the trouble
Amado Mendoza maybe they were :(
Taylor maybe she was really that cool and authentic .
Jaja I agree
? what were you even expecting
I've always loved Sonic Youth but to this day I find Kim Gordon rather talentless and uninteresting.

Dammit, Skeeter. That's a preposterous thought.
(Zzzzz...)
how dull is she?
+The Full Fat Boogie Band omg yeah but how exciting is drew barrymore lolz
She's not. She's shy. She doesn't like interviews.
The Full Fat Boogie Band she’s entertained people for years.
So I’d say
She’s pretty fucking amazing
