    Love the wet towel drill.
    Sad thing is I never get the snap 😅 but the day I finally do I hope something will click and I will be able to use it on the course.
    Many thanks!

    Been using a speed reader this off season. I've found it (combined with video) helpful to get instant feedback on different tweaks I make to my form that add velocity or subtract (albeit in a relative, not absolute sense). But I agree about the part where the throwing angle tends to be downward and nose angle is not observable. A large net and a tall tripod help with this.

    I bought a FlighTowel and learned pretty quickly it can also negatively affect your timing. There is a difference between an 8" disc in your hand, and what amounts to 20" of cloth. It's closer to a whip action, where that snap is at the end of the cloth, but the snap when you release the disc is at your fingertips. That 20" difference is significant when it comes to timing. I'm not bagging on the product, as I think it can help teach snap to some extent. But I think if used improperly (or without the correct mindset) it can quickly build bad habits.
    Side note: Your thumbnail says "Don't Ruin Your Form" and I can testify personally I've done that, and it's practically impossible right now for me to eliminate the bad habits and change my form. Disc golf form is like a house. Don't build a bad one, because you don't want to tear it down and build a new one. Some people can fix something, and then something else, until they get good form. People like me have to start over with a new foundation. You don't want to waste years of your life.

      Amen brother! I have played for over 22 years now. After 10 years or so, I started to rework my form into starting the lawn mower. Then about 4 years ago started to work back to where I started, because that is the natural way to throw. Still working.

    Even in the bouldering community the general consensus for the powerball is that it may be kind of useful for rehab, but there are just as good or better exercises without it. Mostly it's a toy you can use to warm up your forearms.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว

      A toy it is. And a nice challenge to learn to start it without the string or any surface, just by your thumb.

    What is your thoughts about replacing the speed gun with an apple watch and an app like Arm Speed Analyzer, or similar equipment placed on your arm? That should be more accurate on measuring your arm speed close to your disc.

    I am a personal fitness trainer since 1998. I agree 100 percent with you. You shouldn’t mimic the movements with weights. Train your overall body at the gym. Stay flexible. Then go practise how to throw your disc!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Jaani, thanks for your videos and your non-bs approach to throwing. It's been really refreshing!
    I have a question about the powerball:
    I recently found out that my finger flexors and the muscles at the top of my throwing hand are very weak, much weaker than on my off hand. I feel like it could be because i work an office job and my right hand is always in a position where these muscles are extended when using the mouse. I also notice that these muscles get very sore when I practice a lot, especially for distance. Would you recommend training these muscles? There are these little rubber things (extensor bands) that you put your fingers in and add resistance when opening the hand. I also feel like I have been getting better pop from the fingers when putting since I started training these muscles.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, why not! It's not bad to train the fingers, unless you start to get cramps :)

    Pro pull? What gym workouts do you recommend?

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pro pull can help you, sure, but only if you know how to throw. It can't teach you proper form, this I am sure of even without testing it myself.
      Work on your legs and core, and do a lot of mobility work. Especially everything done standing or hopping on one leg is good, since you work on your balance and core better. And hip and spine mobility are vital, too.
      Good luck!

    =) A scathing (and correct) review of the flight towel. I always thought that was a stupid idea. Never liked the bad behaviour it fosters.

    I've tried the flight towel before and never really liked it. Hated the way it made my throws feel, ended to giving it away.

    I have a net + speedgun setup in my garage - for me the main benefit of this setup is that I feel more motivated to practice form in the Garage with the gun on, than I did before I had it. I have made three position I can put the gun in depending on the type of throw im practicing - and the fact that I have to hit close to the speed gun just gives me a ellement of precision - I dont know if the speed mine shows is the correct speed but it is prette consistent, which is the most important for me (im not trying to beat any world records) - this setup has greatly helped me work on timing this off-season so for me, I disagree with you that it is a bad piece of equipment.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great! If you find it helpful, then do it! I just get a lot of videos from young kids smashing their hearts out to these without ever considering that there is more to throwing than just the speed at the release. And it looks horrible, like injury prone horrible. This is why I don't advice them to just chase the numbers but to actually learn to throw.

    I love the insert of eagle getting hurt.
    I always had to explain to people who just screamed about how great eagles forehand was, and how everyone needs to throw like that... and why it was wrong and he was going to get hurt really bad.
    You cannot sit there and keep hyper extending your joints like that and expect them to hold up. And he didn't just do it a little, he did it pretty hard.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You sure need muscles to make up for the hyper extending joints. No muscles and throwing like that, bad combo. Also no mobility and all muscles, bad combo too.

      Simon put out a video about 2-years ago in which he was looking at Eagle's forehand, and going to copy it for more distance. It was soon after that video that Simon mysteriously developed an elbow injury. I know exactly what happened to Simon because I developed the same elbow injury at the same time. Trying to copy Eagle. My elbow turned purple. It took one year to heal.

    • @dgspindoctor
      @dgspindoctor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, you absolutely need more muscles and less mobility to throw injury free.

    Powerball great rehab/injury prevention tool for elbow injuries like tennis or golf elbow, wich both can occur in disc golf, so maybe useless for you, but may be very uysefull to many other people!
