With this video plus your others -- I added somewhere between 40' and 80' to every shot I threw yesterday. Keep the back leg and the off arm as a counterweight made everything make sense. You are the best. Hands down.
I actually like videos like this. I'm in the process of gathering video footage to compare and contrast with mine, to see if I can change some of my throwing fundamentals. I have a number of problems I need to fix. That said, the variance I'm seeing among top pros gives me hope that I can be far from perfect, but fix a few specific things, and see improvements. Side note: Just as bad habits can be hard to break, so can good ones. You have a lot of good mechanics you built over the years that - I think - protected you with some of these changes. For doing something so dramatic as to emulate a pro disc golfers form - and still have the disc come out fast, no wobble, and straight - that's a good thing. Even if you had early release problems, a lot of other things were working well in the throw.
I like to see and hear your thoughts about form work and what to do. I'm relearning my backhand form and it is terrible. I have just been watching your 1-on-1 series and I actually likes it. I've got a coach for a few lessons and it's more or less what he teaches me. So thanks man.. from Denmark
The Gibson form stuff was just a vehicle for me to talk about the form while doing stuff. I throw much better in reality and with my own philosophy than by copying Drews :) Glad you liked it!
You're vids are super inspiring. Gonna take my camera out this afternoon and look at my own form. It's crazy, I help other people all the time but I've been terrified to look at my own form :) Like going to the dentist- do I really want to know what's wrong? Keep up the great work, and vids like these are also very nice. You dissected Drew's form and your own form and in doing so did what you do best: Take complicated athletic actions and reduce them to simple ideas.
You picked this up and broke it down into but sized pieces so quickly and made it easy to understand too. Thanks for doing that. Do you feel with that little hip hop at the end, it's easier to brace? My angle of my throwing arm is up higher, but I feel much better throwing with it lower like you showed.
this is a GREAT video!! and helped me TONS, wow... (this is all a more natural style for my body mechanics, the diagonal runup to get into position, and using the hand as a counterweight) but i've been going against it trying to throw like eagle trying to walk up straight then streeeeetching back and trying to use my left arm to punch my body around, etc.... it's felt so awful haha. wow, i'm so bad, you rule!
Thanks! The punch down is an illusion though. I also seem to "punch down" but let me assure you, I actually don't. It just happens, when you let the arm loose after the shoulder turn. No need to "do" it.
Been practising this way of throwing during off season , it literally gave me like 50% extra spin on my drives , i'm rounding aswell with the reachback , but i feel at this moment it gives me a better timing overall , but trying to fix it out asap to not get used for rounding . really good video mate ! Replicating this form gave me +120 ft distance , eventho its not great yet (rounding) + reachback etc.. , i also noticed ur field work started to look rly similiar to Väinö Mäkelä's form from US distance champions
Look at old footage of Drew, his left arm use to go high like Garret's, he changed his form to the tuck, he has an old video about it. Great work on this video 🤘👓
I think that the left arm action with Gibson, Gurthie and all the other great players is simply to assist the weight shift stay in the middle line, through the body towards the throwing direction so to the hip and the heel of the front foot. Without that movement of the left arm towards the back side, some momentum is being lost to the diagonal left side direction.
@@dgspindoctor Yes I agree. I think it's something that just naturally happens when you really focus on shifting the weight to the plant foot and the throwing direction as forcefully as possible. For different guys the left arm just tries to achieve that in slightly different ways but essentially for all of them it's just the result of focusing on the weight shift.
Do you think the left arm is two fold. Pushing down starts the shoulder rotation and then resisting once it is down. This would provide more of a rubber band effect with a brace to fire that disc out.
@@dgspindoctor you're ignoring the physics of conservation of angular momentum. By pushing the off hand back and farther from the axis of rotation, you're increasing the force of your shoulders rotating into the throw. This is why many pros use the "swim move"
@@BaronWorsham There is alot of things I don't say, because I have no need to show my knowledge. I just tell you the basics and what you need to know to throw better. Coaches can talk physics all the want, players may focus on playing.
@@dgspindoctor you can't say the push down does nothing though. You can say, "it's an advanced technique for when you already have your timing right." But you can't just ignore that it has a significant impact for a player going from 300 to more
Sorry, man. I don't buy it. It can act like a brace for the upper body put pushing down per se is not the thing. And 300 is nowhere near "advanced" in my books.
Hard to say without seeing. But could be, that when you push the arm straight, the elbow turns to point down which then lifts your palm facing up. Maybe? It's hard to explain, but when you don't force the arm straight, this kind of things don't happen that often. Try it out.
youre partly wrong about Drews off arm he said HIMSELF in a video he crosses his chest which makes his upper back muscles tighter which makes him throw faster but you are correct in the sense at the very end yes he swims his off arm backwards to stop rounding yes but both are true
hehe one disc that is crazy, your will is amazing, just one thing you need a net to throw in or just a fence, anyway you say iń this video, you need to rotate just not to earlie, can you laborate on that, i have worked on my form to rotate my pelvis, not hips or łegs, trying to get arm in powerpocket, my speed is just around 75 kmh and i can throw a tiny bit over 100 meters,110 maybe. stand stil...
Thing is this: you shouldn't think about rotating. This will happen by itself, if you brace properly. If you don't, you need to rotate. This the misconception, that's spreading like a wild fire in Disc Golf even though the sports science is proving it wrong. Watch my video Bracing is Disc Golf Is Simple. Just brace properly and let the body take over from there.
still hard to understand, i look at most of your videos, the body should stop and slingshot the arm forward to release, but the auto rotation is still a mystery, any drill to work on this to get the feel for how the rotation should start, should just have a small idea, if i stop, the fot get twisted and my ankle hurts, that must be wrong, thx for your effort and time, preciated you talk english 😍 i understand its a bit easier to talk fin for you, but you do a damn good work, keep it up, looking forward for next video, any chance you can talk swedish 😁 just kidding 👍
Try standing on your front foot, the back foot on toes only supporting you to not fall down. And throw without thinking about turning your head or rotating towards the target. I am sure you will rotate. But if you lean too much forward, your ankle can get stuck and you can't rotate, because of that. That is why the weight should be on the inside of the foot, or the heel.
Thanks for showing the process you use to improve/change your form. I don't think I've actually seen someone do a video like this before.
This guy is a very good teacher.. Top level.
I love seeing this, both the struggle and the alow process of approving everything. This is fantastic to watch.
Thanks!

Thanks! Good for you, really glad to be helping.
Drew is so compact and explosive. Definitely someone to emulate.
He totally is, but also... impossible to copy
Great breakdown of your throw. Keep giving us this content my friend.
My throw? Oh, my throw is nothing like you see here :) But thanks!!
Appreciate hearing your thoughts as you go through the process 👍
Thank you so much for making this video. I can’t wait to try this out!
Oh, there is no reason to try THIS! My form got super sloppy there! But you're welcome :)
my favorite video of yours so far :)

Thanks! It still messed my form to play with the idea of throwing like Drew, but it was fun.
I like the idea of talking about in the sense of "resisting the rotation"
Because that gives a really good mental que.

I think I do it naturally, because I don't even know what you are referring to :)

how i reach out is i turn with 90 degree arm and then all you have to do is straighten the arm etc.
That second to last throw was quite close, impressive!
Yes, too bad I couldn't see what I was doing because my phone kept going to cooling down mode.
Yeah that throw was smoked right down the line.
Yes, but still nothing like my own style.
Good stuff!!
Ezra Aderhold does the same left hand push off

Your glasses are The Bomb Yo
Thanks, I believe me and Jeffrey Dahmer have the same optician.

Yes, his form has changed quite a bit from the early years. He's smoother now I think!
Bro you are finally making videos in English!! Yesssss
More to come!
so hard to break old habits. makes me curious do you still find errors in your own throw?
Nothing but errors.

Might be. Still I think it's something that comes very naturally, like it's an instinct when we don't want to fall and get hurt.

i tilt the disc upwards during my reachback how can I not do this

maybe one day I'll get this (although I'm running out of time).
Keep you front hip at an upward angle like Drew.

ok thx but isn't that to strong arming the disc if you lead with the arm or elbow (keep elbow up and throw with the arm you says)
My form was quite bad, true.
