  • You want to know what "timeless" is? You want to know what a good car investment is? You want to know what an amazing interior feels like? Here's everything. Here's the first generation Acura NSX. The car that Honda didn't have to make, but did.
    Clarification: The PlayStation 1 was released in Japan in 1994 and 1995 in North America.

      Pretty true, especially with the NSX, since the ones with pop-ups cost way more than the redesign with fixed headlights (stupid new laws, fuckin' up all the great cars). But, pop-up headlights are original, striking, and show that you are not someone who drives a new car. Not to mention, so many cars with them are SO iconic, like the NA Miata, RX-7, AE86, and of course, the NSX.

      One version of the new NSX I'd like to see is one that strips out the AWD hybrid gear and replaces the silly 9 speed with something like a 6 speed sequential or something, making it a purely RWD car with a turbo six. Something akin to the 911 GT3.

      Spike Blade saw a 1991 NSX on CarGurus recently going for only $25,000, and only has 50,000 miles on it. It’s an automatic though, probably explains why the other ones I see there are going for 50-100k

    The bad thing about 1994 is that Ayrton Senna died. He helped develop the NSX.
    I like to think that a small part of his soul resides in each NSX.

    • @seanmccarty1176
      @seanmccarty1176 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      It does. Honda specifically asked him what they needed to fix after he said he wasn't qualified to have an opinion on a mass production car. So he was honest. And what they fixed is the reason this car is so good. When they fixed the stiffness, he drove it in loafers. He loved it.

      I agree. I just got an import 1996 SVX S4 trim, only 125k km, clocked in 15000 km in just 6 months, daily that thing in freakin salty Toronto. AMSOIL fluids, 91 fuel, and constant touchless car wash, roll like a boss with a purpose. I want my SVX to hit half a million km, I want it to hit a million afterwards. A car that sits has no purpose, however a daily car has all the purpose.

I know it means they get a little more beat up, some get wrecked, some get rusty. Good. That means they're being used, that's a worthy price to pay for cars like this to be out rippin around

    The NSX to me is one of my favorite attainable sports cars (hell you can argue it’s a supercar). Out of the C5 Corvette, NA Miata, Subaru STI and Evo 9, this is probably my second favorite one since the entinte Corvette line is my favorite car ever. But the NSX provides s i m p l i c i t y . In a world filled with straight pipes, turbo hood exit exhausts and crazy rolled fenders with tighter fitment than a nun’s asshole, the NSX gives enough power but a beautiful amount of handling. Oh and the body, bless the body lines, bless the makers of this vehicle. Bless the late Ayrton Senna (he makes me proud to be Brazilian at least), because without Honda and Senna what car would take the NSX’s place? All the Italian supercars came with too much horsepower and looked like a kindergartener’s wet dream, there was always space for a fantastic handling, decent horsepower, mid engine, manual car, but there was no car in the space until the NSX came by. Bless the NSX

      Meh. I only really appreciate RWD cars. Humble-but-overachieving Civic Sis and V-6 Accords are cool though. The R32 looks great, but I don't care for AWD or turbocharging (compared to alternatives to both).

    And Portishead's Dummy, Blur's Parklife, Dumb & Dumber, Interview with the Vampire, Stargate, The Professional, Crumb, True Lies. In 1994 the American car market was still cool. The RX7 was still alive. The 240SX hadn't gone all soft and undesirable yet. The Supra. Civic Si hatchback! The e34 5 series was still for sale. Viper GTS. The original DB7.
    But let's not forget the bad: 90's Pontiacs were in full flight, Junior came out and destroyed Arnold's otherwise impeccable career, and Bush gave the go-ahead to shitty mediocre rock in the wake of grunge (the band, not the president, but I wouldn't put it past him to do something equally heinous). I believe that 1994 was the beginning of a decade or more of sucktitude for cars, movies, music alike.
    The 5th Element was the last glimmer of hope before we settled into a veritable desert of shit. The Lexus IS300 came along and I perked up a little in '99. Subaru threw us a bone with the WRX and got the ball rolling. Really we should all thank Subaru for reminding Americans that enthusiast cars existed.

    "this car is so UNDERrated" (mrmister1227)
    there, edited/ proofread it for ya.
    its hard for a car to be overrated when it gets just as much or more criticism for only having 270-290 hp, and maintaining the same basic appearance thourgh its life time, (big one, in fact in 2003, people went to an acura dealership and saw a 2002 nsx, they immediately shyed away from the car b/c it looked hardly different than the 1991.) making it kinda underappreciated.
    NSX is all about the handling. put in perspective, how many low slung exotics or even sports cars dont try to send you in to the guardrail when driving spiritedly around the bends. and only weigh 2800 lbs? 290 was enoujgh to get a small car like this flying back in 94 yet it was perfectly planted to the ground and easy to control.
    corvette c5/c6 and porsche 993 (air cooled) are close in weight (3100 lbs) but factory stock, they are hard to drive at their limits without spinning around you would need some kind of suspension/brake/tire modifications to keep those cars planted to the ground.
    the supra and 3000gt (and skyline gt-r) were the other 300+hp contenders from japan, but they were heavy and needed the extra power to pull all that heft, but ultimately that weight takes its toll on the handling and response.
    and then reliability (yes i know cliche, but flash back to 1994, it was a big deal.
    back then reliable sports cars with trouble-free maintenance were like a UNICORN.)
    on reliability ferrari, mclaren, and lambo werent the only ones to learn a lesson from the NSX. it shaped the industry even further than we realize.
    (without the "challenge" from the NSX, Chevy would still be churning out c4 lt1 corvettes - does OPTISPARK ring a bell?.)
    hence the nsx is UNDERRATED.
    also why a lot of NSX's are chosen as a platform for modifications. a car that i sperfectly balanced, handles very crisp and is lightweight but can be supercharged for cheap, (or turbocharged for a bit more)

      oh boy those with the rear wheel steering thingy...every ricer boy i knew in those days made mountains out of it....then their 'guy they knew' or their 'cousin' came with one to get kicked around by stock fox body mustang with a 4:10 or 4:30 rear end.
      those people really didint understood that those car where not pony cars and was not at its best at drag racing. now that im older and dont have those idiots around making me hating on them its quite a nice little fun car (still not convinced by the rear wheel thingy) but still.
      the only car early ricer boys loved more than those were those little RWD toyota ...they looked a little like nissan 240 i forgot the name. the engines were quite weak to be honest

    • @TheDutchMitchell
      @TheDutchMitchell 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      skullhacks78 Because Acura only exists in the USA. Don't know about south america but it sure doesn't exist in Europe sadly. Honda is the mother company and Acura is the same thing as lexus is to toyota. Just a luxury brand

    • @SageManeja
      @SageManeja 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So Honda cars are made with lower quality components than Acura cars? And whats the point of doing this? Reminds me of when I went to Britain and all Opel cars had a wierd logo saying "vauxhall" or something like that

    • @SageManeja
      @SageManeja 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, okay. Didn't know Honda had that reputation in NA

    • @PistNRods
      @PistNRods 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      skullhacks78 yeah Honda in the 80s - early 90s is very much how Kia/Hyundai is viewed in the US. It was a cheap budget brand. Acura was created to separate it from that pack. Now Acura is a premium brand, and Honda is in the middle. The Acuras received more premium features like poshed up interior features than their Honda underpinnings.

    • @agentgfh
      @agentgfh 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      skullhacks78
      No, they are made of the same parts and have the same reliability. Like the Acura ILX and Honda Civic are essentially the same car. Its just one gets a slightly nicer interior.
      Apparently us Americans like to have different names for things to make ourselves feel more exclusive. I could see that being true; we are a very materialistic bunch. If someone is buying a more expensive car they want to show it.
      Exactly why there are lots of people buying old BMWs and Mercs who cannot afford to maintain them. They are buying it for the "prestige" that the badge brings.
      Ex. Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura were mainly launched in the North American markets and the majority of their sales are there. The majority of Acura's vehicles are rebadged with the luxury versions getting nicer interiors; the majority of their cars share significant portions of the mechanical bits.
      Toyota/Lexus is very similar, it was launched mainly in the North American market (but has expanded much further than Infinit or Acura I believe). You could say that Lexus and Infinit are very closely related; both are used to sell cars which do not have a USDM equivalent. Unlike Acura, which mainly rebadges models which have equivalents, Lexus and Infinit both use their marques to sell JDM vehicles in North America. Nissan Skyline/Nissan G35, Toyota Soarer/Lexus SC 300 are just two examples.

    I have great respect for Honda’s engineering; the company’s outstanding… but they have no soul.
    Hear me out (or don’t). Their vehicles are refined and every element is thought about to the nth degree… except for one thing: passion.
    I’ve owned several Honda motorcycles and cars. They’re bulletproof. They perform. But, they’re essenceless.
    They’re not Mazda trying to recreate British sports cars with the Miata. They’re not BMW pursuing pure driving feeling. They’re not even Kia pursuing the equivalent of a car you’d expect to get in a 1980’s McDonald’s Happy Meal.
    No. Honda makes unbelievably reliable, perfectly respectable vehicles. Without passion. Without intent.
    The cars they do make that are outstanding seem to be released a few years ahead of their time and are therefore canceled too soon. Think S2000, Element, even CRX.
    Over in motorcycles, you can’t beat Honda but the lack of passion remains. Where’s the bleeding-edge Hayabusa? Why aren’t they pursuing oddities like the triple-cylinder Triumphs?
    My 2003 Interceptor was alright. My 2005 F4i was fine.
    And here’s where the irony rolls in - Honda is at its best when it’s emulating someone else. The NSX stands the test of time because it’s a reliable Ferrari.
    My best Honda? My 2001 Shadow Sabre 1100cc which was the best Harley-Davidson motorcycle ever made.
    I love you, Honda, but, for the love of everything motored, grow some passion.
    … or just bring back the damn S2000 already, dammit.
    (Great video, guys! 😀)
