      The NSX's were never cheap here in Australia, as a side by side 15 years ago you could import a good R34 GTR for the same money and most people did, there was a few rattling around in the 50's and 60k bracket but after that you're still paying supercar prices for basic parts anyway and a fairly limited (compared to say Nissan or Mitsubishi) aftermarket spares. There is some stuff out there for them but its in a whole other bracket compared to say your SR or RB engines and below what you pay for Euro spares from Porsche and Ferrari.
      But yeah, prices are going mental.
      I've got a late model, low milage GTO MR I bought 15 years ago which has been babied and mostly stock that I hung onto because its very rare and a bit weird, last I checked its worth twice what it cost to buy, import and comply locally. Don't really want to let it go, but the small part of my brain that tries to make financial sense is thinking that kind money could be used better elsewhere.

    It's simple: there are less analog cars every year. New cars are getting bigger, heavier, less communicative and more detached from driving experience. And there is no hope for change. On the market, the only way to lower price is to offer competition. There is nothing produced right now that would match "analog sports car experience" known from cars of the past. However, there are more drivers than ever that miss these cars. Due to their preference or just curiosity of unknown. This is heaven for speculation and extravagant rich assholes (this is my only definition for someone keeping nsx not-driven for over 20 years) who just like to own rare stuff.

These prices are going to keep going up until they reach the millions of dollars as these cars keep getting more rare and collectible, and people with a knack for making money keep treating them as appreciating assets.

    It’s crazy how times have changed in 2009 I thought about buying a 1991 NSX from a place called Silver State Imports in Raleigh NC. I remember being on the fence about it because at the time they were asking 27k which for me was hard to justify at the time. The store owner actually let me take the car for 24 hours to entice me to buy it but for me it wasn’t enough power and I declined it. Had I known then what I know now lol. Also funny the place had a N/A M/T A80 for $9,900. I thought that was overpriced as well because I had just gotten back from Okinawa where 6sp RZ’s were going for that price and N/A cars were $1500.

    I just found you channel and I LOVE these videos man, your research is amazing. My automotive vice is the second gen Mazda MX6. I love them dearly and I know I'll end up buying many many more than the 1 I have now. I'm curious if you have any tips or resources for the cataloguing you do, finding numbers for cars delivered down to the paint job. It's really impressive stuff and I'm hoping there are some magic websites you use that have great details on sales figures of old cars and the such. If you're doing everything yourself holy f**k man you're an absolute legend, and regardless keep up the incredible work!!

      Modern sports cars just don’t really sell. I have seen two new Supra’s on the road, a single new Z4, two new NSX’s. Hell I’ve seen more pre-2010 Audi R8’s driving around than any sports car built in the last few years. The only ones that really seem to sell in numbers aren’t even really fast sports cars, like the BRZ.

    • @zxb995511
      @zxb995511 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@centuryhelix8727 I think that's a bit anecdotal, you can't judge a whole industry by what you see around where you live, if you look up official statistics on sports car sales you would see that sports cars do sell, A LOT--- Some sell more, some sell less. The question you have to ask yourself is why does the NSX sells 128 cars in 2020 while the Corvette sold 21,000 cars in 2020.

    NSX, a supercar that beat Ferrarri doubled its price tag with less the horsepower and anything from that era, a supercar that was designed to be driven and put miles and miles on them and bring drivers joy on daily basis and succeeded, sometimes got stored in a temperature controlled garage and probly seen less than 1000 hours of sunlight, and then got sold to some rich people that will store it for the rest 99.99% of its life time and sold for higher profit. If that's not a tragedy, I don't know what is.

    Since many NSX people may see this, I want to warn you all about one I used to drive. In 2001 I met a Japanese dentist in Dallas who I was very good friends with. She always had me drive her NSX. It was a high-mileage car with EXTENSIVE body damage. If I remember correctly, she bought the ‘92 or ‘93 car new and drove the dog out of it. I think it had around 80,000 when I first drove it, and about 120,000 the last time I saw her. She is a brilliant woman who is very interesting, but her car was beat to hell. I’m talking THRASHED. If you see a black on black high mileage car from Dallas, buyer beware. I think the most anyone would give for it was $12k when she had me shop it around 2003ish. I drive 911 Turbos mainly, but also have new Ferraris and McLarens, so I know the market. Good luck shopping! I just don’t want any of you to see this car for sale and think you can make it ok. This car was beat to shit. Every body panel had dents and it was so rough that I was actually nervous driving it, because I just knew that Johnny Law was going to pull me over...

    I was talking to my brother about the NSX, "get some of that retirement money out and enjoy it". Bought a pristine '91 with 48K miles back in 2013 for 32K. The original owner paid 83K (20 K over list). Glad I listened to my brother. A couple years ago I was getting on the expressway and I was into 3rd pretty deep , 85/90 mph. Looked behind me, yep the police. He followed me a couple miles then pulled beside me and gave a thumbs up. Car guy
