does it shut off by key , The wire going to points , there is usually a junction block by the points , Unhook the points there and the other wire there , at junction block goes to the ign switch to kill spark..
But a year and a half ago when the original coil was working the key switch did not turn it off then either, always thought it was a bad ground wire, what is your thought?
@@MurphyMower The bolt your coil wire is on is just a insulated terminal . The wire you removed going to the points also went to the ign switch . Usually all 3 wires come together by the points . There i disconnect the wire to points and keep the wire going to ign switch . . But you need a wire from switch to the coil .The wire to switch should go to ground when switch is off , if not check switch , and may need to check switch ground . I made a video of doing this conversion if you want to see how i did it .
I know this is a long time later I hope I can get help I own a 15 SS and I want to do this where can I a get the wire and B where did you get the newer coil?
I’m not really sure on that. It will work on a 14 You just gotta make sure that the curve is correct and the bolt holes match up and you’d probably be fine but I don’t know that for sure as I have not researched that
Not worth the time seeing they did a study that showed points make more power by 3 to 5 HP difference even in higher RMP ranges. Not much of a reason to convert over no added benefits seeing that the time saved in maintenance of points is less then the time to convert it.
I’m sure not all conversions are that way, but I do remember I read online somewhere that for this particular engine and coil that it needs to be reversed Really, not sure why But it does still work a year and a half later
I did the same thing to my 73 briggs 13hp. Worked like a charm. Well done 👍🏻
Thanks
Thanks for watching
AWESOME job Lee , that engine sounded great . Can’t wait to see that suburban in action !!
I have a few more kinks to work out but getting close
Great job! Good to see you channel growing. Great content.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the encouragement

It does not shut off by key so are you telling me to disconnect two wires were the points are at?
I will do a video on this if you’re cool with it and definitely give you a shout out

I have a 15 i want to rewire , but i like the 14`s wiring so i will wire it like that and explain why , but add a start solenoid
Good job on the electronic ignition... what's the deal on the pod cast?
one of my buddies has started a new podcast called Mike the Baptist and we were just testing everything out that night
Nice! Can you share the Part Number and Brand for the new coil you used?
Looking soon as I found, I’ll reply
What cleaning solution are you using in your parts cleaner thanks dude
50% simple green 50% water
It seems to do pretty good

Coil came off Amazon
Thannk you could you maybe also refrence how you made that cable I found the coil on amazom im brand new to small motors@@MurphyMower
Whats the part number for the coil??
398811
Good luck
Will this work on a SS12
I’m not really sure on that. It will work on a 14

wish I could be more help

Yeah not sure
I figured the newer machines Dont have point for some reason
IT’s running more dependable for now
Thanks for watching
@@MurphyMower yeah most people don't know how to set points anymore to make them run right.
I have done this before but have never reversed the polarity of the coil
I’m sure not all conversions are that way, but I do remember I read online somewhere that for this particular engine and coil that it needs to be reversed
Really, not sure why
But it does still work a year and a half later
