    • Official 20 Year Time-...
"EarthCam Premieres 20 Year 9/11 Anniversary Time-Lapse Film, ‘Never Forgotten’
Documenting two decades of the rescue, recovery and rebuilding at the World Trade Center site"
A letter from the CEO & Founder of EarthCam:
It's been a heroic undertaking to rebuild downtown New York City after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Within days of this national tragedy, I personally installed a camera to webcast the rescue and recovery for the families, and the world, to see the brave determination of first responders. As the recovery effort continued, we installed more cameras to document the rebuilding and construction of the site. This commemorative time-lapse honors the victims of 9/11 and is dedicated to their families and friends, with special gratitude to the first responders and the steadfast construction teams.
A super hardworking team at EarthCam, who I am so proud to work with, spent countless hours keeping the many webcams at the World Trade Center active for 4,617 days (and counting). This unprecedented effort provided our in-house editors with over 1 million images to choose from when creating this two-and-a-half minute video, as well as our other commemorative World Trade Center movies.
We at EarthCam are committed to continuing this photographic documentation to educate future generations and have donated all the images as well as the original camera to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
I hope this time-lapse serves as a way to recognize that for the 10 years of construction, there was constant progress made to rebuild these important 16 acres of America.
    Sincerely,
    Brian Cury

I just visited the 911 Memorial and Museum last weekend and am from Toronto. The first time I visited the great country of USA and the Twin Towers was in August 2001. At that time I was only 16 and never imagined it will be the last time. I spent nearly 6 hours in the museum and cherished every moment of it, with an unspeakable dread and heaviness in my heart.

I haven’t been yet but I absolutely love the design of the memorials for each tower. They could’ve easily had some gaudy statues, but instead they left the gaping holes where the towers once stood. It forces you to grapple with the sheer scale of the loss and the feeling that there’s something missing here that can never be replaced

Watching this video is so nostalgic… I was just a young man in my early 20’s when I started working at ground zero. As a union plumber, we were one of the first trades on the worksite. The first thing that was worked on was getting the train back online the went from New Jersey to the trade center. Our job was to replace the pneumatic air lines that controlled the tracks. I remember my first day walking down the scaffold to get to the bottom of the bathtub. They were still removing the last bit of debris…. Some of the lower levels of the parking garages were still there. It was so weird because some of the floors looked liked they were burnt to a crisp and another floor looked absolutely perfect as if nothing happened…. No char on the stop signs or parking lines. The train tunnels were pumped out from all the flooding and were very damp and had a terrible smell. I worked tirelessly at ground zero from 2002 till 2015. In the early stages there was so much miss management. We would build structures that were changed and taken apart. It was crazy… There’s another city underground at that the trade center that not many people know about… all I can say is those buildings will never come down again. In all my years in construction I’ve never seen engineering like that and I don’t think any structure will ever be built like that ever again. The engineers basically got a blank check to make these structures the strongest in the world.

The Towers' actual footprints can be seen @0:14.
Pay attention to the one on the right (North Tower). You'll see it gradually fade out as they break ground for its respective pool. The pool's North most wall sits adjacent outside the tower's original structure, partially in WTC 6's footprint which is where the new One WTC (freedom tower) now stands. Lock your eyes on the North Tower's foot print after 0:14 and watch the time-lapse.

The Memorial displays all the events that took place on that infamous day.

They called it Ground Zero still at that time and it's wonderful to see what it now looks like. A beautiful memorial to those that lost their lives. I hope to visit it again one day so I can pay proper respects.
