I waited ten years after adult onset with using prisms and exercises and wish I would have gotten the surgery first. ❤ It’s not as bad or scary as the word surgery sounds. It changed my life.
may i ask what caused your onset as an adult. My eyes started crossing 5 years ago with no apparent cause other than strong prescription and bad visual habits, they say accommodation spasm caused my esotropia. I am looking into sugery. its hard to find other adult onset stories
10 years is a long time to wait. I bet that doing the exercises beforehand did help you surgery results, but 10 years was a long time to wait. Hindsight is always 20/20.
Be careful Ambers_Team. It surely can help some people to have perfect aligned eyes but surgery also means that you get scars and this is bad for the flexibility of the tendons.
Eye turns are from the brain, not the muscles. Alignment has very little to do with the muscles. The muscles go where the brain tells them. Motion processing in the brain is the root cause of an eye turn. IF you have motion processing abilities, strabismus surgery can make it easier to align. IF you DON'T have motion processing, surgery is completely cosmetic.
This is fascinating and I want to know more! What do you mean by motion processing? I believe I have sent over a few young patients to your office in the last few months and hopefully the parents will choose to try vision therapy before any surgical interventions! I was so excited to find out they were within driving distance.
What about microstrabism? I have ARC+esotropia and with VT I got much better (feels like almost stereopsis) but still my eyes are not fully aligned. Is it possible that my brain will accept the original fovea or always use the extra fovea point?

do you still wear glasses with prisms at times? if so how strong is your prism?
I have glasses with prism, but I haven't used them for probably 6 months. I believe I had 3 diopters BO on both sides.
