  • The Toyota Kijang, or Condor as it is known in South Africa, is the 4th generation of the Toyota Utility Vehicle (TUV). This is probably the most under-rated vehicle Toyota ever produced. This 3000D 4x4 TX Condor has been in the family since new and I've done many thousands of miles in it.

    My dad had one of these in a red color. He managed to drive it for 500 000km before it was written off. Very good car. The best part was road trips and because the trunk was so big my brother and I would fold up the seats in the trunk and make a bed in the trunk and sleep throughout the road trip. We still had plenty of trunk space for the luggage

    My dad used to have a 3000D. Slow as a donkey but super reliable
    I still miss that car

    To be honest. It’s in my bucket list. It’s such a chilled vibe kind of vehicle. Reminds me of my youth. 😂

    Brought back so many memories, grew up in the back of one of these. I would say a downside is the lack of a rear diff lock, got stuck a couple where that would've come in handy. Still love it tho!

      They are great cars. I remember doing research and Gearmax made a read diff lock. I never fitted it, and always a bit worried if the going gets tough. But never got stuck.

    We had a few of the 3000D 4x4 Condors underground on the coal mines in Witbank and when you see the abuse they were subject to then I can assure you your vehicle still has another 50 years or more life left in it

    I had a 2004 - 2.4GX petrol Condor. Best value for money ever!
    I installed an additional petrol tank ( total fuel capacity of 120litres)
    also installed a Toyota bakkie bullbar and two swing arm-type spare wheel brackets on mine.
    Toured Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland with it. Also went all over SA in it - snowy mountain passes around Rhodes etc.
    Followed the Pajeros and Navaras wherever they went. Even up the Naukluft mountain pass in Namibia.
    It was as big as a cave when I removed the 2nd and 3rd row seats.
    Traded it at 300k kilos for a LC 76 and found that the Condor had more space inside!
    I sometimes wonder if it is still running somewhere🤔

      Wow, sounds like a great experience. This one is my dad's. He bought it from my brother and I who won it on 50/50's Veld Fokus :) I had a 2003 3000D 4x4. Had a roof rack and dual battery. We did Etosha, Kaokoland, towed Corsa out of Rhodes in the snow. I wish I kept mine. One day when I am big I'd love a 76 LC. The only vehicle I think I might keep forever. Cheers

    Toyota Tamaraw/Innova a Asian Utility Vehicle in the Philippines. Very popular family vehicle. Driven one a diesel variant, easy to drive like a tall car.

      Awesome, thanks for the info. I wish they still imported them to South Africa. The diesels are amazing. I love the simplicity and practicality.

    Good evening I have toyota condor 300d TX it shows the 4wd light ,how can I deactivate or activate it?

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This one is constant 4wd, but if the light is on, it either means it is in low range or the center diff is locked. Do you have the small lever next to the gear shift? That's how this one moves between H, HL, LL

    Could you fit 16 inch rims with taller tyres to raise it a little? You would lose acceleration but the top end would be better and ground clearance would improve.

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did a lot of research on ways to raise it a little. Some people fitted Camil Suspension (none of the well known brands made parts for it) which meant you could fit 215/80R15s and with some body lift and mods, maybe even 245/75R15s. But 16inch rims is a bit big and the lack of power would make it struggle.

      I agree, I rear diff lock would have been great. I researched this back when I owned mine and as far as I can remember, Gearmax made one that fits. Lovely vehicle.
