Buckner shouldn't have been on this list. Besides the fact that the entire Red Sox team failed to truly show up for game seven (where they could've won the series), Buckner wasn't hated by his team.
The "entire" team? Dwight Evans, Marty Barrett and Dave Henderson ALL showed up and played extremely well. Jim Rice did hit .333, but did not drive in a single run so I will agree with you there. Bruce Hurst? You really think Bruce did not show up? He was 2-0 with a 1.96 e.r.a. How is that not showing up? Players who did not show up for the Red Sox: Roger Clemens, Al Nipper (never showed up), Oil Can Boyd and Calvin Shiraldi, Bill Buckner (not the error), Rich Gedman and Don Baylor.
We lost that series due to John MacNamara. Bill had a problem with his heels, if memory serves me right, and John Mac had been platooning him for most of the season with Glen Hoffman when we got into the later innings. Prior to the infamous inning Hoffman was warming up in the dugout and approached John Mac waiting for him to give the nod to take first. John Mac decided to keep Bill in and the rest is history. The following day my oldest son told me he would never follow the Red Sox again and is a Yankee fan to this day, that was worse to me than losing the series.
I think you were WAY off on Bill Buckner. As a Sox fan we loved him and still do! Buckner himself said it was the media that vilified him. We wouldn't have made it to the series without him.
Most of Bill's teammates on the Red Sox actually defend Bill. They point out the manager left the pitcher in too long in that inning. That allowed the Reds to get to the position of tying and winning the game.
I agree. This is the first I've heard of him being disliked by them. If anything he got screwed over by the 49ers after he got them to the play offs finally and he was replaced by Kapernick.
I find it hard to believe he was hated by the team considering Mahomes gives him credit for his development and there are whisperings of giving him a SB ring.
When the Chiefs picked up Smith, Andy ried stating one main reason why - "He doesn't turn over the football". I don't know why the host said he was a turnover machine.
Cutler was a cry baby and a wuss in Denver. Best thing Josh McDud, um excuse McDaniels did the entire time he was coach in Denver was trade that moron to Chicago for Orton. Cutler became a has been and Denver got a few good years out of Orton. Broncos got the better end of that trade!!
As a Steeler fan I can still remember being a little kid and hearing everyone talk about how much they hate Kordell Stewart. Same with Plexico Burress. I remember people calling him No-catch-a-co Burress lol
As a Bengals fan since the early 70’s as a kid, I can tell you that I would of loved to have seen both with the Bengals. Besides, we are used to having receivers that drop the ball... lol! On a funny note, I became a football fan at a fairly young age and I didn’t fully comprehend the rivalry between the Bengals and Steelers back then. So, with that said, I also loved the Steelers. These were the days of the Steel Curtain and Terry Bradshaw, who I still love to this day.
Quintin Jammer on the San Diego Chargers. Fans chanted “Lito” any time he was on the field and gave him hell. The fans wanted Lito Shepard, but the Chargers drafted Jammer instead.
Y'all forgot Milton Bradley, especially with the Cubs. Playing the ball off the side, fighting w teammates and fans, forgetting how many outs there were 😂
Allow me to settle this. The 88 Mets lost the NLCS to the LA Dodgers. I attended Game 1 of the 1988 World Series in Los Angeles, at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers vs. A's. That was the game that ended on Kirk Gibson's 2 Run Homer off of Dennis Eckersley. The ball ended up in the A's bullpen. I was there. I saw it in person.
I “ heard” that the Seahawks didn’t like Brian Bosworth. It had to do with his big contract (at the time) and being made defensive captain as a rookie.
This is largely about players who came with great expectations to a team and failed to deliver. They weren't hated. If you want to talk about athletes who were, by their own team mates, go back to Ty Cobb, and forward to Reggie Jackson. Those two set high standards in that department. The boxer Ricardo Mayorga also deserves consideration. He's loathed by opponents and fans alike.

I don't think anyone liked Cobb including Cobb himself...... Walter Johnson, pinpoint control, would always give him a little chin music when he batted against him. Cy Young was another. Very nice cool calm guy, good control, but had no issues trying to dust off Cobb at the plate. Cobb tried to spike Honus Wagner once while trying to steal second and Wagner just beat the living shit out of him. Cobb played in a era if the batter PO a pitcher, the batter better have good life insurance cause the pitcher would start aiming at the guys head without hesitation.
Why do Red Sox fans not despise the pitcher for throwing a wild pitch earlier in Mookie's at-bat? They were one strike away at that point. Or the defence for giving up a 3 run lead in Game 7?
The same reason that the teddy bears fans blamed bartman in game 6...they were angry, but it wasnt until they lost game 7 that the fans truly blamed him for the series loss...has anyone seen him, now that Chicago won a world series? Lol
I don’t think the lakers were pissed when Dwight left and in fairness to Alex Smith Colin Kaepernick was winning without smith just when smith started becoming a better qb
If you are a Lions’ fan, you are a man of ETERNAL patience! The Lions’ #20 was was worn by a few greats, namely Barry Sanders, Billy Sims, and Lem Barney.
You should do a top ten athletes with cult followings. Athletes who didn't perform the best statisticly, but were popular with the fans (Brian Scalibrini, Cris Andersen, Kurt Rambis, William "The Fridge" Perry for example)
As far as Messier goes he never had a chance with the fans in Vancouver because they thought of him as a Ranger and the Canucks lost the 1994 Cup Final to the Rangers
THANK YOU! You not only went there with Alex Rodriguez, you ranked him exactly right! He was described as "Lockerroom cancer" while in Texas, for many of the same reasons he demonstrated in New York. The Rangers were so eager to get rid of him, they agreed to pay him the remaining $62 million of his contract (while he played in NY) just to get rid of him. His numbers were almost entirely hollow. He couldn't score a man on base if his life depended on it.
Rajon Rondo for the Dallas Mavericks. Brief as it may have been, we did not care for him at all, nor did we like seeing him outright not care against the Rockets. It was pretty painful.
Well he won them a super bowl this decade and had one of the best super bowl runs in NFL history so he may not be elite anymore but he did what he was supposed to do
I have to agree with you of the world's top 10 athletes who were hated by their team. Most players who have a knack for being selfish and rude, DEFINITELY need to learn some discipline. I mean, I love the athletes to death, but someone ought to whip them into shape and start to display a much more positive effect on the world around them and towards the other players.
You forgot Chris Carter, WR, MN Vikings. Total D-bag. At his HOF induction only one other former Viking and teammate showed up on his behalf, Jake Reed.
There was a story that Russell was given game footage to review so they could discuss it the next day. When the coach asked him what he thought about the "cover 2" concept. He said yeah that was interesting. THEN the coach said the dvd was BLANK! That was before his first game and the coach knew they were screwed.
Orlando Pace. I was at a black-tie event in St. Louis with some notables from the area and the rams. Probably a fundraiser. I was there at about ten years old talking to, I kid you not, Marshall Faulk, Tory Holt, Isaac Bruce and D'marco Farr. I was losing my mind. We were all talking nicely(the legends were tolerating my gushing) when an hour late to the show Orlando Pace strolls in. The mood changed. My stepmom jumped him immediately with,"so you really are just late to everything, huh?" And Paces excuse was that he was on, his words,"black mans time." Marshall and Isaac looked at each other a moment and I think Isaac Bruce retorted with a simple burning retort of,"funny you say that Orlando, we made it on time." That team hated Pace and it showed in public. In front of children. THATS legendary hate. Oh and I laughed in the face of a man that was at least 6 times my size that day, so it was fun too. In that "watching faces of death" sort of way lol do a video on Orlando Pace I WILL do a testimonial on that argument
Rajon Rondo In Boston. They said coaches hated his stubborn attitude and he often argued with teammates. They even have a clip of him KG and Ray Allen arguing in the locker room. I also read somewhere he basically tried to give them the me or coach scenario once after a playoff loss. Idk how true that is but you should look into it.
no one on the red sox team or anyone in management hated bill buckner. that is the name of this video, right, yet a few of these are nothing more than "fans" complaining. because we all know fans complaining is always justified..and never petty. yankees fans boo'd micky mantle for pretty much his whole career, why leave him out. clickbait
Chad Henne, Miami Dolphins. After the disastrous 2007 season, Dolphins selected new head coach Tony Sparano to lead them in 2008. With the first pick, they passed on Matt Ryan for Jake Long, in an effort to strengthen the offensive line. Their second pick was then used on Chad Henne in the second round. Henne showed signs of promise every now and then, but for the most part was a major turnover machine. It got so bad, people were calling for him to be benched in favor of Matt Moore. Henne would later be released by the Dolphins, along with coach Sparano. Henne has since been the backup in Jacksonville.
I'm a Bears fan and Cutler was definitely an asshole. I remember seeing Chicago bars holding Cutler Jersey burning parties while he was still on the team. I never understood how the Bears management put up with him as long as they did.
We should’ve gotten rid of cutler in 2010. Non bears fans say he never had weapons, but Johnny Knox, Devin Hester, Matt Forte, Marty Bennett, Alshon Jeffery, Kyle Long, and Brandon Marshall were pro bowlers. Since when was pro bowlers not weapons. I can’t imagine if Trubisky had just one pro bowler to throw to.
Buckner shouldn't have been on this list. Besides the fact that the entire Red Sox team failed to truly show up for game seven (where they could've won the series), Buckner wasn't hated by his team.

@@shrapnel77 that's right the ball actually went straight threw his glove
Agreed. It was terrible what he and his family went through after the 1986 World Series
We lost that series due to John MacNamara. Bill had a problem with his heels, if memory serves me right, and John Mac had been platooning him for most of the season with Glen Hoffman when we got into the later innings. Jen Ward why is number 2 for we love Bill Buckner but was disappointed for the error that all
This seems to be more about players who were hated by fans, not players hated by their own teams.
Exactly what I was gonna type
I think you were WAY off on Bill Buckner. As a Sox fan we loved him and still do! Buckner himself said it was the media that vilified him. We wouldn't have made it to the series without him.
Buckner was a terrific player, respected and admired throughout the game.
Most of Bill's teammates on the Red Sox actually defend Bill. They point out the manager left the pitcher in too long in that inning. That allowed the Reds to get to the position of tying and winning the game.

Not sure I agree that Alex Smith was hated by 49ers.....you sure about that?
67marlins Amen. There's nobody that dislikes Alex Smith as a human being. And not even as a QB anymore.
I'm a niners fan I didn't hate him
I agree. This is the first I've heard of him being disliked by them. If anything he got screwed over by the 49ers after he got them to the play offs finally and he was replaced by Kapernick.

Anybody who hates Bill Buckner does not know baseball.
The gaff in the World Series was Buckner's first fielding error since August or something like that.
How in the world is Albert Belle not on this list

No, for us Denver fans it was Paxton Lynch, followed by Mr. Butterfingers one Isiah McKenzie, who came back a few days later after his ass was cut!!!
Yep the couch of the teaxes hated him
Good one
Brian Kistner he’s talking about the Texans mah dude, Brock’s dumbass stole Money from our city
Dwight Howard: EVERY team! LOL!
ByloBand he seems pretty “confused” lately

Henne showed signs of promise every now and then, but for the most part was a major turnover machine. It got so bad, people were calling for him to be benched in favor of Matt Moore. Henne would later be released by the Dolphins, along with coach Sparano. Henne has since been the backup in Jacksonville.
10 players loved to much by their team
Can you do 10 players that hated being traded to a team? Just like when Chalres Woodson went to the Packers
Man you missed out on one hated guy by his teammates, opponents, owners, referees opposing fans only and ex girlfriends!!!!!
SEAN AVERY!!!
4:06 Cutler has a Vikings glove on
