  • Ryan Leaf was one of the most promising quarterback prospects of his generation. A No. 2 overall draft pick, selected just after Peyton Manning. But his name is synonymous with unrealized potential - and an infamous fall from grace.

    I can give you $32,000,000 reasons why JaMarcus Russell is the biggest bust in NFL history and its not even close. Six years at $61,000,000 with a fully guaranteed $32,000,000 signing bonus. Ryan Leaf's rookie contract was a paultry $13,200,00.

    Dude really turned it around, from one of the deepest, steepest falls one could imagine. Fucking good for him.

    Anybody said JaMarcus Russell was worse must’ve not been around for this guy. No other guy went from hero to zero so rapidly. 1-15 4 yards and 6 turnovers against KC his third game. You can’t make that up.

    I'm glad he has a happy ending after all.. it's not easy losing everything you worked and trained for years, it can be soul and mind crushing, but he bounced back and I'm happy for him

      Now people listen to his garbage about NFL players when he was the biggest bust ever and is a social media bully but when you remind him he is a bust on Twitter he almost never responds you know it bothers him

    • @iamhungey12345
      @iamhungey12345 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You made it sound like he got screwed by unfortunate circumstances like an accident or something. In truth, he did this to himself.

    • @hockema56
      @hockema56 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @iamhungey12345 of course he did. No one claimed different. They just said they're happy he's better now, which he clearly is.
      Why are you so against giving him credit for that? It doesn't require you to just pretend he was never a dick. That isn't what he does, so why on earth would you think he expects you to? He'd tell you straight up that he brought all he got upon himself. No shit Sherlock. Any truly recovering addict will tell you the same. They don't need weird insecure keyboard warriors to remind them.
      Why am I wasting my time? You're clearly only like this because you're jealous that a guy described as "the biggest bust ever" is more successful and better at life than you. That must really sting.

    And the thing with the Chargers is if they did some more research on Leaf, they probably would've known his reputation as a bad teammate went all the way back to high school. One of his old coaches admitted that he had pissed off his teammates so much he got exactly one vote for team captain.

    I remember that game against the Raiders. Nolan Harris the defensive end split Ryan Leaf's chin open on a vicious hit. None of the Chargers Oline ran to his defense. It was Crazy the Raiders players showed more concern than the Chargers players on the field. It was a surreal game. The Chargers literally imploded on the field and on the sidelines. That's how toxic the relationship was.

    I understand him better than most as my story is quite similar. I was a hs athlete and had the world given to me. I had an ego that was out of control and I cared about nobody but myself. I sufferer an injury which led me to lose everything.
    The injury i came to find out later was intentional as my own teammates were so sick of me that they designed our entire practice to injure me. Yes my own guys took me out. It was a blessing.
    I had to refocus. I found myself. I got 2 degrees. Went to law school. Became a politician. I help others. I truly care about people and dedicate my time to volunteering and helping. Its truly so satisfying.
    Happy endings can happen as long as we strive for it. Takes strength.
    At the time I thought getting injured and losing everything was the worst thing ever. It turned out to be the biggest blessing.

    Chargers brought it on themselves by ignoring the signs from doctors that he was ill suited to be an NFL quarterback. They have up a lot to move up 1 spot in the draft. Could have done nothing and taken Randy Moss.

    • @PhilAndersonOutside
      @PhilAndersonOutside 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Chargers didn't draft #1 that year. Leaf was taken after Manning. The Chargers only swapped #2 and #3 picks with Arizona. This was of course a mistake, as was not drafting Moss (or Charles Woodson, or Alan Faneca - Steeler guard, and probably the best G in the NFL for a decade).

    I think that distinction should really go to JaMarcus Russell. Leaf had all the talent, juat let the fame get to his head, same with Manziel. I think had both stayed more grounded and had better influences and people around them giving sound advice, they could have succeeded. Russell for all his talent, didn't have the work ethic and it showed with his weight. Not making an excuse for either Leaf or Manziel but their upside, in my opinion, was alot better given the right advice.

We love football as Americans! Can’t get enough of it … that’s why there are so many other leagues ! He made it! Got drafted! Got one of the biggest contracts for a rookie ever !! He was taken right behind a hall of famer! Some people thought he should go first overall! Blah blah blah ! There are no bust! If you can get drafted , or sign a contract in the nfl then your not a bust ! Obviously!
