I was just getting ready to post something similar. He made KC much better, including one of the best games I remember going against John Elway and Denver in a back and forth game. I think we made it to the AFC finals, which is better then all but 3 other teams so we'll take that every time.

Interesting. I'm an Eagles fan but I would think either the years of Trent Green or Alex Smith were better than the two years of Montana. Could be wrong. I just think those 3 guys are underrated

Chiefs trade for Montana was a success for the team. They almost got to the Super Bowl his first year and he brought legitimacy to the franchise, and helped kick start the regular season dominance for the rest of the decade. They didn't win in the post season for the rest of the decade after he left, but that was a successful trade for the Chiefs. A bad trade would be moving up to draft Ryan Sims.

John Hadl was the worst Green Bay Packer trade. In 1974, the 34-year-old Hadl was traded by the Los Angeles Rams to the Green Bay Packers for five draft picks-first and second round picks for 1975 and 1976, as well as a third round pick in 1975. Hadl was very good with the Chargers and the Rams...by the time he got to Green Bay, his best days were behind him. Hadl went 4-9 in 1975. The Packers were horrible until the 90s. The Rams were very solid in the late 70s thanks to Green Bay.

Honestly if Santonio Holmes was our worst trade then I’m pretty confident that we actually don’t do terrible trades. Holmes unfortunately never lived up to his full potential and was out of NY after 4 seasons; 12 games played in 2010, fully healthy in 2011, 4 games played in 2012, 11 games played in 2013. That “terrible” trade was actually a successful one as we had traded that pick to the Cardinals in exchange for their 6th round pick who eventually turned out to be Antonio Brown.

Did a 15 year old compile this list- football did exist before 1995. There are some serious reaches for what constitutes a "bad" trade. Nobody would call the Joe Montana trade bad, he took a mediocre Chiefs team to the AFC Title Game and the playoffs both years. Santonio Holmes averaged 30 rec.and 440 yards in the 5 years after the Steelers traded him, how is Pittsburgh dumping him a BAD trade- he wasnt productive after the trade. I dont think anybody would say the Leonard Williams trade was bad either..... I could go on, but my points made.

The Jets hands down worst trade is for Darnold. Not because of Sam himself but the incredible ineptitude the Jets showed as they didn't assemble a team around him. The Colts only got an All-Pro Guard and a nice return in 2 additional 3rds for the trouble. Sam was then shipped out less than 3 years later for a way lesser talent because Jets, and the return was woefully worse with a 2nd 4th and 6th. Jets gotta Jet

How about a tiny bit of research? The Steelers traded Holmes, who was going to be suspended 4 games, and got Bryant McFadden back PLUS the pick that got them ANTONIO BROWN!!! That was a GREAT trade.

Shallow research. Holmes would’ve been released for not fitting into team culture and they were happy to get anything for him. The pick they got helped land Antonio Brown. Not even close to being considered the worst trade ever for the Steelers.

Bettis absolutely blew in 95 starting with his holdout and continued a downhill trajectory from his rookie season to that point. In the end it worked out for the STL Rams who shortly after stole Marshall Faulk from the colts to form the GSOT.

No. There's plenty of trades made just to be better or to off load a contract or player. There's plenty of trades teams make where they know there's no way they're making a SB.

If Cal QB Joe Roth didn't die in Feb. 1977, the second pick would have been traded to a team that wanted him, not Dorsett. As a result, Tony would have probably went to Cincy with the third pick or the Jets with the fourth pick.

Bills also traded away Marcel Dareus for a draft pick in that same week. They proceeded to have a 3 game losing streak where they gave up 600 yards on the ground. It would've cost them a playoff spot had the Chargers not started the season so poorly and if the Ravens didn't crap their pants against the Bengals...

Pats: Brady or Gronk? Let's see...
Trading the best and most dominated TE in the NFL history to the Lions and making him retire and losing this players for nothing in return.
That was the worst trade (attempt).
Not some 36 overall...Gronk is a goddamn HOF-player who had (and has) a huge impact on the game.
Brady was not a trade but could be added here as abysmally bad front office decisions.

Giants fans defending the Leo trade like the Jets didnt watch him have a pro bowl career year one time and then barely do anything else his entire time there.
He balled out in a contract year, so did Mo Wilkerson. And plenty others. Let’s hold off until we see if he capitalizes on that year now that’s hes gotten paid. Leo is infamous for making you believe he can put it all together and be a stud, then you forget he’s on the field.

The Redskins trade for TJ Duckett was worse than any trade for RG3. RG3 was great until he got injured. While it may not have worked out for the Redskins due to the injury I wouldn't let an injury be the reason to consider a trade bad. A Player low on talent would be a reason for that and TJ Duckett did not have the talent to be worthy of a 1st round pick.
