Good deal having access to that overhead crane.🙂 Looking forward to the completion of this project. Also I don't know about you but I've had it with the snow this year.🤔
Great job. Love the crane. Please service the engine with as many gasket kits and wear parts as you can. Don't want to slap this into another truck just to waste more time on little stuff.
That was a lot of work. Good outcome. Just a thought, maybe do the underneath stuff first in the future, so coolant and other liquids aren't dripping on you the whole time you're under there. Also make sure to loosen the trans mount to crossmember nuts/bolts so the trans has the ability to slide rearwards - this helps make room for the flywheel and alignment pins to clear the bellhousing when lifting the engine up. You want the trans to move rearwards about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. That will help when the engine is going back in, too. You can get the engine on the mounts, not worry about dragging on the torque converter, and deal with aligning the trans easier.
I’m doing a similar swap 99 318 into a 2001 318. I made it much easier on myself by just removing the fenders (rust free so I’m swapping those too) and then removing the cab for easy access since I’m taking the trans too. Might’ve been some extra work but it was easy enough to get the body off
I have a 2005 dodge dakota quad cab SLT 128,000 miles. Never driven for 2 years now Very good condition on the body. You can't lift an engine by anchoring to a plastic intake manifold, and it's far easier to keep the AC and power steering hooked up so you don't need to drain them. Also, the engine is so far back on Dakotas it's way better to take off the crank pully to clear the core support.
yep J A is right, and also the manifold blocks 2 bell housing bolts that need to be removed. I took the accessories off for better access to things and make the engine easier to chain up
