the small cylinders are soooo good. I had 3 engines each with 198 cylinders (all 4 sides covered, 50 long, -2 for the coolant) and it could push my 120,000 KG ship at 80 knots. Meanwhile the default large engines I need 7 of them to get 23 knots. at 80,000kg. I actually had to keep adding weight when using the modular engines because it would make the ship fly out of the water

but for me its the opposite, the new small modular engine are not only harder to control because of the new stoichiometric but an engine i build with 12 cyclinder have less torque than 2 small engine.

Generator power is directly linked to rps, so the smaller one would make more power. The larger one would have higher torque allowing it to drive a larger load. More aggressive gearing for instance. It is also likely more fuel efficient.

  • @eda___6299

    So... some thoughts...
You need to use the RPS levels matched so you have a base to get a proper comparison. Then match size to see if the modular engines are better at that point for size comparison rather than start with a size comparison.
Also fuel consumption and power drain for them all too. Give each engine a larger coolest system, fuel and air setup that will be more equal.
    So yes more testing!
So I would like to see that, though good video otherwise.

this 700 gen output engine in the middle is not that fuel consuming, it eats 1 litre of fuel in 35 seconds if u set throttle to 60, and the gen output on 60 throttle is not that great as the max throttle, its something around 142 and 143 (im not 100% sure about anything what i said) and the coolant to this engine will be a pain to make

    • @chopsticks7751

Baron Von Bratwurst but what rps is that? engines are generally more fuel efficient around 7 rps, so it would be a good starting point to see how efficient modular ones are at 7, and then start changing speeds and loads.

    • @MrMattumbo
      @MrMattumbo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That would be nice, I feel like the current large engines have really poor torque for their size and combined with the current efficiency meta the only way to get around that while retaining range on a large ship is to just add more engines... A modular high torque engine would be perfect for building large ships, adding an extra cylinder or two is much easier than adding another engine and it should provide better range and speed using large/giant props since they require ass loads of torque .

the generators benefit much more from rps than torque, if you put all of them at the same target RPS (using a PID) you might see that the default one could be better. Also fuel consumption is bound to RPS. One way to achive peak performance is to find the curves for fuel consumption and power generation and find the point where they cross.

When this bigger modular engines came out I tested it and I made it working in 80 RPS and it was consuming maybe 1 l/s

Middle engine casually doing 600C after 10 seconds.
Start up your creation and everything in 10 meter radius including you catches on fire

Not sure how they actually implemented it, but realistically smaller pistons could give you more RPM, while larger pistons would be better for torque.

Small runs faster with less torque you need to add a gearbox on the big ones at this speed the generator is pretty much useless.
