What I really needed to know, is how to remove that cap you put it at the end, you mentioned drilling, is that the only option? Undoing and doing up screws didn't really need explaining, but getting at the screws is more important? Was handy to note that new handle must also be in open position as lock will be from old handle.
Thanks that was reallt helpful however what if the handle is in a lock position and the key is broken and cannot be unlocked? I am trying to fix my windows in my living room
My windows are locked shut, and I have lost the keys. Will this work for me? Also, do you have links for these replacements? Funnily enough I just won 20 quid Amazon vouchers!
Hi how can I change the handle on the window when the handle is locked and I have lost the key? Have new handles on the way and your video has been really helpful but my concern is getting to the bottom screw to detach the handle, would appreciate some advice please
Hope you can help, my upvc handle lock has sheard inside and come away from the fixing. I have taken off the two little covers that expose (which I thought would be standard screw bolts) no such luck! All I see is a washer type flat face with a centre hole, I thought it might be an allen key, but I have tried fitting various sizes with no luck. In your experience, do you know this type of fixing? Thanks.
hi Mike.tried to replace handle but when i took the old one off. there was something loose inside the window appiture, so the new lock would not connect with the inside. any ideas ?
My window lock has broken to the point where the handle just turns up and down but it doesn't actually unlock the window so i can't open it to gain access to the side strip - any ideas?
would need to see pictures of it really to advise but really try and break the mechanism down as much as possible and if there is access to any screws under the handle area remove those and see what it revails
sounds like the mechanism needs looking at. sometimes that is removable and you might get a replacement at the hardware store like b&q if you are in the UK
The handle covering the screw needed to repair a stuck handle is a really stupid design flaw. Obviously that's the standard, i'm all for standards, it's just rather funny isn't it.

2:27 short shaft? you can always take the shaft out of the handle that you're replacing, which saves having to cut anything.
thanks Mike . I saw your video yesterday, I have just put the new handle on. much simpler than I had expected,
Glad it helped
Mike, you get
10/10 for that easy fix.
Cheers 👍
thanks Graham, appreciate it
WOW I MIGHT NEED THIS ONE DAY !! THANK YOU!!
Thanks 🙏
I like it Mike, thanks for your advice and nice explanation.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@mikesunboxing when the handle is straight does it mean its locked and is there any need for a key to double lock it thanks
Nice quick and easy fix
Cheap also £6 for two locks
This really helped me thank you
glad it helped. I have referred back to the video myself a few times :-)
Ooh! I should have filmed changing my bog handle - old one had corroded right through and snapped
Yes you should have 👌🏼

use a very small screwdriver with a flat head or a strong needle. some you can push in on one side the the other side pops out
@@mikesunboxing I found a video showing using a penknife, and that worked a treat :), Thanks for responding
@@jesshothersall No problem, glad you got it sorted :-)
Thanks that was reallt helpful however what if the handle is in a lock position and the key is broken and cannot be unlocked? I am trying to fix my windows in my living room
you should still be able to remove the broken handle and insert the new spline to open the window and then fix it properly
clear guide. what if , the handle works and open well but the window still won't open, like it got stuck to one of the side latch ? thanks
Let me check
I want to replace mine as the lock doesn't work (handle is fine) but how exactly do I remove that little chrome cap that covers the screw?
use a needle or thin ply tool to pop it off
@@mikesunboxing Ok thanks!
Try some bluetak to lift the blanking cap out without damaging it any way. It’s not my original idea, YT works wonders.
@@Mudge07 Thanks for the info :-)
@@mikesunboxing Needle not strong enough, what is a thin ply tool?
LOL, Mike... not a DYI guy either. Does seem like a reasonable deal!
£6 for two locks is pretty cool 😎 and they both can use the same key
Very good instruction thanks
You are welcome!

it might work for you, the links are in the video description for amazon
Hi Mike, how do you get a rounded screw out please
drill it out is probably the quickest way if you can
Hi how can I change the handle on the window when the handle is locked and I have lost the key? Have new handles on the way and your video has been really helpful but my concern is getting to the bottom screw to detach the handle, would appreciate some advice please
if need be cut or break the handle to access the screw, i have done this a few times
I can’t get at the bottom screw because the handle won’t swing up when I push the button in. Any advice on how to get the covered screw out?
would a right angled screwdriver do it?
Hi Sam, I have the same prob were you able to do it? If so how? I'm stocked as the handle is 😁🤦🏻♀️

not sure what is going on there, sounds like some form of security fixing? maybe post a pic of it on the discord chat and i'll take a look

Where can you get spare screw covers if lost?
from the handle manufacturer really, they aren't universal sadly
I took the screws out but couldn’t pull the handle off
send me a picture on email and i'll take a look

hi, did you manage to get the handle off out because I have the same problem?
Very good very good
Many many thanks
Ive undone the two screws but the Center piece wont come out
try a little spray of wd40 or similar and leave it for a few minutes and it should come out
And what about the internal lock
the lock mechanism in the side of the window? that is a bit more complex and i have not had the guts to do one yet
Darn it
Nice o e Mike. Subbed. 👍🏽
Thanks for the sub!

This handles won't work at my house. My windows are not designed to open. I bet right now everyone wishes I was still gone. LOL
I the uk it is part of building regs that windows can open for escape purposes 🔥🔥🔥🔥💥🔥🔥

yeah it is a bit daft, but i guess it is secure
