Here is an Amazon link to a good Yale handle I have used, this has two extra spindles (the square bar) at different lengths. The standard one, in the handle as it comes, is 40mm long and works in my windows. The other two are 15mm and 30mm and may be useful if you have thinner windows or are unsure which handle to get (this is an affiliate link where I earn a huge commission! lol) amzn.to/4dsrUOq
Is anyone so happy that a job they have been putting off for ages is now done after watching this video? I had no idea it was so easy - I just replaced my broken window handle in literally 3 minutes. Thanks so much!
Hi, great video but I have 2 broken handles where the lock button spring has gone so can’t turn the handle to unscrew the bottom screw - any advise? Thanks 😊
Can you slide a flathead screwdriver in under the handle and try and lever off just the handle, leaving the part that is screwed to the window in place? Effectively break off the handle. I would try that
@@FatManBuilds Hi there, I am a bit stuck and wondering if you can help me. I took the old handle off the window and am looking at the new handle. The instructions are telling me to put the new spindle in but there is already a very short spindle in the new handle. I am really confused because I can't see how to put the new spindle in if there is something already in there and I can't seem to figure out how to get it out! Help!
@@RohiniKapil-k5p Hi there, you are halfway there if you have the handle off! So now you can either use the spinble already in the window, or the new one. You can use the old one it will be fine. All you need to do is pull on the spindle in the new handle and it will slide out, wiggle it as you pull. Then the handle will slide over the existing spindle. Then put the screw in. Let me know how you get on.
Thank you so much! I am proud to finally say that I managed to change the handle. The spindle that was in there was hard to pull out but it came out in the end. I have never done anything like this before and I can't believe I actually did this. Your video was very calming and helped so much!!!
@@RohiniKapil-k5p Well done, glad you got it finished! All these things are easy once you know how. It's just finding out. Glad you found the video useful!

Helpful but I will have to cut the long bit- spindle? So working out how to cut it.....will look at another video
Hi there, thanks, you should be able to cut it down with a hacksaw easy enough. Hope you worked it out! Thanks Simon
Does the same apply to a horizontal window (kitchen upper for example)?
Yes should do, thanks
The little black switch on the side of your old fashion screwdriver turns it into a ratchet screwdriver . It's the little things
Ha thanks! it does indeed!
Great - thanks !!!!
No problem, you are welcome!
