I've managed to open it using a knife; which means I can now at least close it!!! I had a broken sleep last night worrying about being broken into! Thank you soooooooooooooo much!!! I used a knife to open it as there was a decent gap!
Worked a treat for me. Thanks for the tip as i had no idea how to take the handle off and didn't want the expense of getting a window company out to sort it.
Thanks for this! My landing window handle stopped working a few months ago but I really needed it open tonight as it's so warm- followed your instructions and had it open in 5 minutes! Will also get a new handle to replace the broken one. Thanks again for the advice!
Oh wow thank you!!! I've just been gutted thinking I need to get the window folk out again for my broken bathroom window and just watched this and it's opened!! 💫
Thank you, helped a lot with my only bathroom window (no extractor in the room) and me not being originally from the UK, had no idea how to deal with this as we don't have windows like that where I'm from. Appreciate you doing this video :)
@@theprior46 Thanks for the great feedback. Any reasonably strong material that will fit into the gap will work. There are some good suggestions for alternatives in the comments below 🙂

I like he posts these videos. I will add though many a task is simple when you know how, like changing euro locks on PVC doors, its just 1 screw. Those digital electronic safes I can access in under a minute they are not secure if you know how. But then again I do like DIY and mechanical stuff.
Thanks for this. My bedroom window handle wouldn’t open at all to allow me access to the screws. I used an old plastic card to unjam it. I’m waiting for replacement handle to arrive.
If it's locked shut and you use this method to open it you can remove it by the two screws and rotate the part that fastens to the window 180° then fit back on and it's usable but without the locking feature.
Thanks for the video really helped me, I’ve also got a different issue on another window, the handle opens no problem but does not now open the window.
I had a window which was also stuck like that. Fortunately, it was just the seal sticking to the frame, and it opened after giving it a good shove. Wd40 stopped it sticking again. Good luck 🙂
@shafhussain929 In-line means that the handle is in a line with the lock (and frame) when closed. Multi spindle means that several different length spindles are supplied with the locking handle. This is good if you don't know the length of the spindle you need.
Hi Ted I followed this and yes successfully I removed the old corroded (with no key0 lock, however I found I could not open the window has the new handle would not work! Any ideas? Cheers Paul
Try using a penetrating spray e.g. WD40 between the (non)opening window and the frame. Spray it into the gap between them and leave for a few minutes before trying to push the window open. You might need to try this several times if it's been stuck for a long time. Good luck 🙂
Are all these handles the same size in the UK? I've got UPVC windows that are about 20-30 years old. Window clicks when I turn the handle, but won't lock. Handle hangs sort of loose/limply. How do I know it's the right size?
@droidgeist if you follow the amazon link in the video description, one of the pictures shows the dimensions, so you can compare them with those of your existing handles.
@ruthlee7302 It's very easy to change a locking window handle. Just follow the steps in the 2nd half of this video. A misted sealed unit will have to be replaced. You don't have to replace the whole window, just the sealed unit. A local glazier should be able to replace it for a reasonable price
My lock has a bulge overlapping the gap to the side so I can only access it from below, then not all of the clip will go in or hardly wiggle due the window frame. Ideals please
Wow what a load of rubbish I have been repairing windows for 25 years believe me this is not a good video! Not all handle locks that way take the handle off measure the spindle length and buy the correct length that says you buying a hacksaw! When changing the handle lift the handle up take the bottom screw out push the handle down now the window won’t push open while taking the top screw out!!! Reverse this to fit new handle PS if the button doesn’t work just press the button and turn the handle you will be surprised how easy it breaks that bit so the handle will open
