When I was a teenager, I "cleaned" my first medieval coin I found with sandpaper...
i am in pain
that hurt to read
That’s rough
And I had such a case, then I couldn’t even think that it could harm her, so I understand you
Terima kasih sudah mengedukasi yang berguna..
This herts me to watch because i'm a professional Roman coin cleaner
And how would you recommend cleaning this coin? Taking into account the fact that it was after exposure to fire and with strong oxidation.
@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration Soak in distilled water for a week changing the water every day, Then use tree thorns to scrape away any crust from the coin, When finished put Renaissance wax polish on it.
I will try the method you recommend. Thank you.
Especially since I have many coins from this coin hoard for experiments.

Very cool

Hi. Is the powder that is sprinkled on top of the Etching gel application baking soda? Thank you
Yes, baking soda is needed to neutralize the effect of the acid.
@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration Muchas gracias.
What tools did you use? Just looking to see where I can also grab them :)
For cleaning, I use a dental ultrasonic scaler - Woodpecker UDS-L LED.
Thanks for that, got some dental gel as well so will give a coin a go :)
Wow thats very impressive , thank you for this lesson ... i have also a channel ...cleaning and restoration vintage PH Coin .. ❤
thanx for watching!
Wich type of gel do you use?
like this - dmpdental.us/product/etching-gel/
@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration Thx a lot
What is the powder you sprinkle on?
Sodium bicarbonate
What kind of coin is it and what do the words say on the coin please.
IMHO it's antoninianus Herennia Etruscilla, letters - HER ETRVSCILLA AVG
Devalued 10 fold
coin after fire, and heavily oxidized
It depends on who wants what when it comes to artwork - yes, it's more than just a coin.
So before is x10 times more valuable than after in this case??
@@kingston163 That's the claim, yes.
I am not saying it is a baseless claim because GENERALLY . . . "cleaning" in the realm of numismatics is like a tornado - can destroy most of the value of what it hits.

That said, there are rare exceptions. Very rare though.
@@2Truth4Liberty Most of what are in superior collections, museums etc ARE cleaned it ls called, restoration, conservation! It requires expertise, knowledge which most 'collectors' are clueless about and only repeat the mantras' they have heard.
I thought coins were to be cleaned without removing the patina?
You can re-patina chemically coins, metal work artists do it.
Do coin collectors accept a re-patina over preserving an original? Can you tell the difference?
Master coin cleaning 😂😂😂😂😂 no need for any that much easier non destructive ways !!!
😂

Hi
This silver coin had significant and strong oxidation after the fire, so I'm not sure if cleaning it under a microscope would yield a good result.
Easier and better result with electrolysis.
Electrolysis is not the best method for cleaning silver coins. Please note that this coin has been through a fire and is heavily oxidized. Therefore, the cleaning method I chose has cleaned the coin quite well.
@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration If the coin is too far gone then why waste the time and effort unless experimenting?
I have the time, inspiration, and most importantly, Roman coins for these cleaning experiments.
After 1st step I'm done😂
You didn't watch the entire video in vain. The first step is always small but crucial for all further coin cleaning. :)
I mean you can destroy coin@@Rusty_Artifacts_Restoration
That's not oxidation, just dirt
No, it's not dirt but heavy oxidation. If it were just dirt, I would have rinsed it off under water.
You ruined it. Drain cleaner results
Nope. It was after the fire and with strong oxidation.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nope)
Too difficult. Silver Roman coins must be cleaned with citric acid or electrolysis. If there are deposits of metallic copper on the coin, ferric chloride is used
Thanks for the advice. Will have to try.
electrolysis is tops
not great not terrible
