- Installed the comm.ai self driving hardware and the open pilot software today. Took it out for its first drive. Impressed with it so far. Even more impressive when you consider that this is a 7 year old car with nearly 175k miles on it. Don’t need a new car to get the latest technology.
Hey! I just got a prius prime 2018. How is it?
Also how was the install?
How does it know if the lane next to you is free, are any other cameras added, or it uses the blind spot monitoring?
Great question! It doesn’t know of check if the lane is free and it’s safe to change lanes. The driver is responsible for making that decision.
AFAIK it uses the cars blind spot monitoring feature if it has it. Plus the cameras are 360 degrees, so it can see out the sides somewhat
How does it interface with the car? Through OBD?
Yes, via the obd.
@gonzoprius3589 thats cool. I'm gonna look into it more cause I drive 70k to 150k a year in my prius.
@@jacobknoxdroid not sure what generation yours it, but it only works on the 4th generation and newer.
There is a plug-and-play intercept for the Lane Keeping camera housed above the rear view camera. That is your primary interface. You can see the wire heading to the camera cover in the video. The small device you install under the camera cover also connects to the OBD via a 6-foot cable.
Self driving hybrid > electric car.
