This was a nice guide but as a visual learner I wish you provided sample pictures of the exposure settings you laid out.
Made it to the end! Thank you for the video!
This is a very good explanation to show how different variables affect each other! I was also inspired by your video where you tackled a bit on the depth of field of a photo, and for the most part I’ve been trying to stay within f4 and 5.6 though challenging since my subjects are moving!
Thanks for all you do for beginners! I’m new to film 35 just got a gorgeous Nikon FG and ready to have some fun here in San Diego.
Legit was about to hit you up on IG asking about this 😅😅
Personally, I view it as an exposure pyramid, with the 4th point being the EV. The overall brightness or darkness of an exposure is an equally important creative decision as DoF, frozen vs blurred motion, and grain/noise presence. While it’s true that once you decide three points the 4th is determined, figuring out which three points to set is the challenge.

A very useful video as always. Teaching my gf digital photography (I shoot film, but she's not quite there yet) and it's immediately in my lesson plan for her lol
This is a good walkthrough however it's worth pointing out that it's not a rule, which you've touched on before. This a a suggestion not a rule. You can creatively play with these in so many different ways to really stand out, especially on negative film. The difference between your f16 and f8 image at 1/125 vs 1/500 probably wouldn't be that much different on some lenses cause we went right over f11 250 and also the lens MM is very important because 28mm f16 has a different depth of field than a 50 at f16. You could even hang out at f8 and stay on 1/500 or drop the shutter speed to stay with a focus zone. Just take the photo because the moment won't last if it's an interesting moment and you're not setting up a scene. As long as it's within like 3 stops you'll probably get something useable anyway cause negative film & raw files are just that good these days
Great tutorial on the exposure triangle. Potato farm.

Another fantastic video. So useful as always my guy!

Potatofarm guide please
With higher aperture number, should we choose the faster shutter speed?
Vice versa
