3:20 And this is why I say to everyone who's Tesla-curious. If they're not flooring it every opportunity they get, nor do they deal with wet conditions, RWD is going to serve them 100% of the time. Plus if a tire gets punctured, one doesn't need to replace all 4 wheels or 2 wheels. Something of similar tread wear and seasonal tires will do. Instant torque is only fun for so long until our passengers get motion sickness lol, or we're staring down a $1200 tire replacement bill. It's a tried-tested wisdom of the car world, where now everyday consumers can understand why there is a car for commuting, and a car for pleasure (including mountain driving).

I also would like to see Tesla offer a 400+ mile range option. Of course I don't need it, but I still would pay $5-10k more just for the convenience. People used to say "no one NEEDS 400 hp in their car," but some people bought powerful cars if they could afford it. Others were just fine with less. Now with EVs, power is not expensive, but range is. Most people will be fine with 300 miles, but 400 miles is a nice luxury to have.

    • @stevenichols4639

There’s no way in heck I would pay that kind of money for another hundred miles of range I would virtually never use it. So far I’ve done my car year and a half. I’ve charged it to 100% four times. Each time to leave for a road trip where I wanted to extend the first leg. I never charge over 80%, which is 240 miles. More than enough.

I have a Model Y 4680 (bought mine a few weeks before you) and one biggest thing I miss that I had in my previous car are the ventilated seats. I charge 95% at home. Have not Supercharged in 2024 so far so charging curve not a huge impact to me. Two issues I had so far was AC compressor had to be replaced two weeks into ownership. Just had one of the rear window regulators replaced due to rattling issues when you closed the door. All covered under warranty. Overall, really like the car.

I totally agree on increasing the battery range to 400 miles. Some people will disagree but mass EV adoption will not happen until customers have the "choice" of having 400 miles of battery range in any EV model if we are willing to pay for it. Its frustrating when someone "tells" a paying customer how much range they should need. The car manufacture that provides customers with 400 miles of range for a reasonable price will gain market share period. Great video!

Agree but think cars should get 450 mi. That makes charging between 10% and 80% =315 miles. I consider that a minimum for those that may live in an apartment in the north. Batteries aren’t nearly good enough. Should be able to add 300 miles in 10 minutes charging. No cars come close to that speed. Trucks and large SUVs should get 500 to 700 mi range for hauling/towing things.

I probably have one of the longest time on EV batteries with my 2011 Nissan Leaf (that has no thermal control). The car is garaged: I vary the charge level, never have fast charged it, and never leave the battery (when fully charged) sit for a long period of time. Back in 2011 it got 105 mile range and now gets between 65-70 miles after 13 years. If you take care of the battery it will easily last past 10 years. Granted I only do short trips on the car because it is only a 24KWH battery so my mileage is not even close to what Tesla owners put on their cars, but I can't complain about reliability.

Thanks so much for taking one for the team, Branden! I picked up my 2024 MY RWD SR recently and your video series reviewing that version (range and charging performance) absolutely convinced me that it was the right Tesla for my needs. It's disappointing that the 4680 pack. charges so poorly. My 2022 Bolt EV charged slightly worse than the 4680 pack. And that's saying something. I'm still waiting to see if Tesla releases the range unlock for my car. I'm super pleased with the charging speed of my version of the Model Y. Thanks again for all the videos you do and especially for giving me the inspiration to get my first Tesla. I hope Tesla eventually gives 4680 owners a charging update or some other incentives towards a 2170 Y (or the 2025 refresh Y).

Good rundown. Don't forget about the Super Mega Schmega Ultra Power Frunk on the F-150 Lightning. I get where you're coming from about 400, but I've learned to plan my bio breaks, restaurants, and hotel stays around superchargers. Instead of saying that I need more range, I would prefer to have far more charging opportunities. My Model 3 range has dropped from 322 to 300 miles in four years. During my cross-country trips, I set the nav to hit superchargers near lunch, dinner, and hotel stops and let the car choose any intermediary stops. Some people don't want to set the nav to any stops except hotels, but I don't mind the extra planning. It lets my passengers know exactly when to expect stops and what we're going to do there.

Bought my IONIQ 5 at the same time and little did we know the die was set for each. I’d auction yours off on Cars & Bids or take the hit (who isn’t) and trade it. Time is money and your content is spent. I’m still shocked Tesla made an unserviceable pack and are still producing the 4680 at this point. What a can of hot mess it has turned out to be. It would make a great around town EV for a busy young family that can home charge it 95% of the time and longest road trip includes only one charge stop with AC charging at each end. I’ve got a spouse intolerant of our charging curve so there is no retreating off of our charging speed. If the IONIQ 5 N cooling advancements don’t improve the charging performance for every IONIQ 5 on the new J3400 plug setup it’s back to another propulsion system for me. HYUNDAI has the technology and the temp is never an issue driving but adds time charging. I can only get 0 %- 82% in 22 minutes on a 70 degree day. Mainly because the cooling doesn’t have the capacity the IONIQ 5 N has. If they bring that to the whole platform for the sake of charging speeds but more importantly is ending at 90% in 25 minutes from 0% on a hot summer day with ZERO need to aggressively cool the pack after charging stops then I’m staying. No cooling after will add 5-10 miles itself thereby increase road range between stops not to mention being kinder to the pack for life. I’d rather not have to buy the I5N and for that money would rather have the Gravity for a bit more. 31:53 #range #cooling #efficiency #ioniq5n

@@brandenflasch No, I have the same as you do. It’s been a solid car and one of the best I have owned. I’m still hanging on to a gas powered truck but I’m leaning toward going all EV. It’s night and day difference in comfort and handling. I’m trying to decide whether to buy the new long range RWD 3 or wait for the new model Y. You may have answer this but has your charging time improved from your early videos?

Juniper is probably at least 6 months away so in the mean time Tesla will do its best to flush the remaining inventory of Model Ys and get it's TH-cam pumpers to tell folks to "go get one now as it is a great time to buy!" Model Y is a great vehicle with mediocre range available only in perfect weather conditions.

Agreed. I almost don’t believe I’m driving a modek Y when I drive the 4680 model Y It actually is comfortable suspension. I know they improvd the suspensiont for later models after 2022 but they still were never great. The 4680 Seems to have a different build that is unique perhaps due to 4680 structural battery reclined modification to its suspension.
