You don't charge to 90-100%. Charging from 30-80% typically takes 15-20 minutes depending if you precondition before you go the charging station. 30%-90/100 could take 30-45 and its designed that way so you don't hog up the charging station.
As a Tesla Model Y owner myself this reasoning doesn't make sense. He can stop in Chattanooga for like 20 minutes and be fine once he gets to Atlanta. Plus, who goes a 4+ hour road trip without having to at least stop to use the bathroom.....
The thing is one need to stop to get the Tesla charged on a long road trip. Thus the trip would take longer in an EV than an ICE vehicle. Therefore, a road trip that estimated to take eight hours in an ICE vehicle might end up taking three hours longer in an EV.
@@tommydong8070the range of the base mode Y is 320 miles which can be covered in 4.5 hrs if your doing 70 mph. Doubt you’re driving 4.5 hours without a break or gas station or McDonalds in an ice. Charge the Tesla for 30 minutes and you can get the other 4.5 hours. So basically you can drive the Tesla for 9 hrs and only need 1 charge. If you are driving more than 8 hours with a 30 minute break just to pee or gas or snack your it’s not safe 😂😂
Our Subaru's and Prius range is 700+ miles when I drive on a long road trip so usually we could do a round trip (East TN - Atlanta - East TN) without filling gas (did this before) in 1 tank. It's fine for me to stop at Chattanooga for top-up occasionally because I don't have to go to Atlanta for work 1-2 times a month. If I do, it will be annoying for sure. Every minute counts when my time is limited. Especially if you are on a "work" trip, meaning you may not have chargers at your destination or time to swing by superchargers. Vacation road trip is another story though. I rented EVs for vacation and I didn't care I had to charge at the hotel or some random places much, but if I have to drive 250 miles to get something done and be back home then go to work again the next day, I would lose my mind having to charge 20 mins (+ around 20 mins in total for getting off and on hwy).
Yet people still hate on teslas... Nothing even comes close to beating this as the BEST daily money can buy. and it has the 0-60 in you're about to find out
Just stop for 10-15 minutes 2 times. Once on the way down. Once on the way back. Waiting 45 minutes to full is not the way to do it. Only charge to 100% when charging overnight. The slowest charging speed is 80-100%. Only charge to 80% on road trips if possible. You’d save a lot of time. The car would be ready before you are since I assume you need to use the bathroom and take a quick break.
The rationale for selling this car is kinda weird. He needs to drive 275 miles and can do this on one charge, but needs to charge for 45 minutes once he gets to his destination? As someone who has owned a Model 3 for 5 years/65k miles and has driven a 900 mile route many times over these 5 years, I feel somewhat qualified to make some comments. First, this guy left his house with a full charge, so not only did he pay a whole lot less for this than for a tank of gas, but he avoided the need to drive maybe 10-15 minutes to a gas station and stay there 5 minutes to start his trip. While I understand the need to be able to drive after arriving at the destination and doing the work he does, there are a number of solutions to this problem. First, book a hotel with a destination charger. If that's not possible, then charge the car maybe 50 miles before the destination. The thing is, this doesn't take 45 minutes. A Model Y with a low battery will charge at something between 175 and 250 KW until about 50%. Figure an average charging rate of 200 KW. This means that in 10 minutes a Model Y will add 3.33 kw/minute, or about 13 miles per minute. In 10 minutes the car would have added 130 miles....probably enough to drive around town. Heading back the car would likely be able to go at least 75 miles before needing another 15-20 minute charging session to make it home. Bottom line is that the charging times this guy cites are just way wrong. He should probably try to get the car back.....
The trip is 275 miles yes, my car shows 318 range on full charge but when driving at 75 mph the entire was I arrive with 5% charge. Then I need to charge to 80% to be able to drive around with all I am doing for work there as I drve another 150-200 miles in the 2 days I am there. Once I finish that I have to charge to go home which I will need a full charge to go the whole way or atleast 60-80% to get there with a stop, and that stop usually takes me 30 minutes of charging. I have put 9000 miles on this car in just 3.5 months. Ive tried charging every which way. Im not making up numbers Im sharing my experience. Maybe its driving styles, maybe its charging at crowded chargers but I shared my experience and it hasnt been the best for me. I researched owning a Tesla because I thought it might be practical option, but the cons out weigh the pros. Good luck selling that in a market that has soften.
@@harriettanthony7352 why change from something that is much more convenient to something that dictates your life in how and where you refuel it. 5 minute fill up every two weeks to go 330 miles for $30 is much more convenient than having to go to a specific place to recharge. No, you have your change and live with the inconveniences. BTW you will eventually have to change the battery pack if you plan to keep it more than 10 years as it continues to loose range. My RAV4 in 10 years will be getting the same range as it always has and I won't have to replace a battery pack either.
@@johnh.wilson2081Not true. Tesla battery packs actually lose 2-5% within the first 10-15kmiles, & even after 10yrs still retain 80% or more of battery capacity. It’s warranted for 8-10 yrs, but there are quite a few vids on here of owners reaching 150-200k miles on original battery packs. You can go to used car sites & most larger dealers will have a battery health rating for used Teslas, & typically they’re at 90-100% capacity. Besides, in 10 yrs of ownership of an ice car, how much are you spending on timing chains/belts, injectors, transmissions, outdated infotainment systems, and the like. If you own a German sedan or SUV, good luck in reaching 100-150k without major expenses to the drivetrain. EV’s aren’t for everyone obviously, but as they progress, range will be on par at least with most ice vehicles. Just like any purchase in life should be, do your due diligence, & inspect what you expect.
Don't forget the very likelihood that insurers will total the vehicle instead. So that's gonna be a very quick underwater loan. This is the precise reason why insurers refuses to consider FSD as part of it's vehicle value for insurance estimates. It's an easy inflation and an easy total loss since Tesla won't transfer the FSD.
I am looking at either a Y or a F150. The insurance difference is $20/mo. Gas savings is closer to $200/month. I'll pay the extra Insurance and be happy.
My insurance is $160/month and I save nearly $400 in gas because I drive so much. Plus, I never have to go to a gas station. The car charges in my garage and I don't have to think about it.
Tesla has poor build quality and quality control. With all the layoffs more than a months waiting time for repairs or service. No loaners available. No thank you!

More to life than cars.
Should just get a Prius. 😂
The new ones I must say are freaking amazing! Especially the Limited AWD feels like a Lexus 🎉
Do you have the new Prius?@@ladkiusa
@@ladkiusa lmao it's a Prius there is never making that brand look good
@@GenieFarms I did have a 2023 all-wheel-drive limited. It was a really nice car, but then I made the mistake of driving a Tesla and that’s what I have now LOL - the torque is amazing on electric cars after driving hybrids for 20 years.
@@tapetwo7115 lmao 🤣 beauty is in the eye of the beholder. From what I’ve seen over the years, Prius has been an exceptionally successful and popular vehicle with consumers.
People don't know time is the most valuable.
Nope its not, says this 74yr old-- now go and find the flaw in this adage
@@harriettanthony7352 Based 74 year old
Where in England are u visiting?
You don’t get the model 3 for $300 a month. that’s with gas savings..
just parking and playing on the head unit or sitting on my phone for 20 mins is a nice break tbh
If the friend don’t take it I will be interested I’m in Dallas , Tx
Where is the dashboard? Is it to save weight not to have one ?
Its not weight savings, its parts cost savings. Example a blinker stalk is circa $15 USD each one! The dash board is also a holdover from the gas car era. Its not needed on a new EV of any brand. There might also be a weight savings, but I have not searched that. The question is good.
That’s the perk of owning an EV. If you don’t like don’t buy or lease
I think a lease with that lease EV credit makes it worth the trial run.
Your selling the Tesla because you can’t afford to buy another car gotcha
Look at the video I posted today, I bought a new car lol. The Tesla is insanely affordable
This Tesla looks like mine only I have white seats.
I’ll take over that lease
So you are saying it doesn’t make any sense and keep annoying to you charging for rest of the trip.
But actually it didn’t make sense to us how came it didn’t make sense about charging before you buying it .😅😂
When you’re older, you’re going to cringe when you add up how much money you wasted on cars.
Wow, you bought an electric car and you're shocked that you have to charge it?
This guy doesn’t make any sense, lease the car but later sell it? 😮
Thanks for your honesty. Your point about charging is the best argument for not owning an EV. If you own a home and don't need to take road trips, it might be a good option. It's videos like these that have helped educate those who are not early adopters on what real ownership looks like. I researched owning a Tesla because I thought it might be practical option, but the cons out weigh the pros. Good luck selling that in a market that has soften.
Almost OP, but not quite. Charging stops are not the 'make or break' item of EV ownership. Its an excuse used to justify the refusal to accept Change.
Bruh what do you do for a living
He has another channel with 2 mil subs.
i'll take over the lease if your friend doesn't
These are commuter cars where you charge at home and then you keep an ICE for long range. Hybrid is better.
Hybrid is complicated..too many problems can come….
Nobody talks about the increased cost of insurance for EV's. There is no net savings
@@jerryshobbies8224 not bad. Where you located at? (If you don't mind sharing). Insurance rates fluctuate so it'd be nice to know.
My insurance is $160/month and I save nearly $400 in gas because I drive so much. Plus, I never have to go to a gas station. The car charges in my garage and I don't have to think about it.
Tesla isn't an "electronic" car brand. It's an electric car. There's a difference lol

Tesla has poor build quality and quality control. With all the layoffs more than a months waiting time for repairs or service. No loaners available. No thank you!

Finally, someone who is not a Tesla fan boy soy boy 😂😂😂.. a Tesla is not an ideal car for traveling if you go back-and-forth to work then it’s perfect for you
I don't agree I am on my 3rd EV and will never go back to ICE cars. If he wanted to make it work and understood that he could charge from 10 to 80% in 20 to 25 min I just can't believe that he is so fricken busy that he can't afford 20 min to charge.
I dont charge the car to 100%, i charged it to 80% to keep going, but I had to do this 3 times in a 48 hour span, it becomes annoying when its taking away from my business and projects im working on, when I and using a gas car its a 3 minute thing. In the video i literally advocate as the new model 3 as the best car to buy. It just doesnt work for my situation right now, my situation not anyone elses
useless
The push to electric by our democrats was short sighted at best. The amount of charging stations needs to be 5X'd before I would ever consider an electric car...the charging needs to be in 10 minutes not 45 minutes. Time = money for me
I don't care for any politicians. I am a father, grand father and company owner, i care for my kids and my employees. There is nothing safer and cleaner than Tesla.
Nice .. I like this guys comment is he a millionaire or billionaire I don’t know yet ?
650 miles a month. I drive 8-900 miles a day 😭😭

Charging at home super inconvenient
What time consumption? I hop in and drive. No stopping for gas, no maintenance beyond tire rotations.
@@mowcowbell bro when your busy as fuck and drive all over town all day that shit runs out and then you have to recharge which takes 30-40 mins. Fuck that. I don’t have time for that for what I do. I hustle all over my state. Not enough range for me.
