The guy who plays Hughie's dad was actually the ONE who the author pictured as Hughie. But he was too old for the role, by now. So was offered the small role as the dad, instead.
I LOVE that they found a way to get Simon Pegg in by making him his dad.
Did you know, when Aragorn kicked the orc-helmet in The Two Towers, he actually broke hie toe.

The great thing about this show is that it it's truly a character driven show. It explores super heroes in a unique way, their true inner workings, and what makes them tick inside and out.
@@mariocano7263 and ultimately what real superhero stuff is really about, what makes us human. Because really superheroes are a metaphor critique of humanity. They're just our mythical metaphor of humanity.
Jack Quaid, Hughie, also recently voice acted a young Clark Kent in My Adventures With Superman that was the exact opposite of this series in every way. Mostly because it’s, yk, wholesome. He does an amazing job but it’s such a crazy contrast.

This is one of the best shows from the last 5 or 6 years, imo. It’s crazy, well written, well acted, and it completely shits on the superhero tropes that Hollywood keeps recycling. And it’s a realistic scenario, too. If supes were real, they’d definitely be celebrity assholes lol, with a few exceptions as always.

The show is based on the comic books of the same name by Garth Ennis. The comics are so, so much more depraved. I do think you'll enjoy picking this series apart.
On the whole invisibility thing....
Years ago, our table top gaming group was playing a superhero game, and one of the guys made a character with invisibility powers. He wasn't super strong, or tough. Invisibility, that was pretty much his thing. He purchased a high tech device for his character, and spent a bunch of point into it, to have the vehicle mimic his powers... so that when he wanted to go invisible, the motorcycle did too.
So, the first game had a scene where that character was on his way to a crime scene, wanted to be cool and ride his new invisible motorcycle..... and got rear-ended into a busy intersection and hospitalized because he stopped at a red light, and the truck pulling up behind him didn't know he was there... lol.
Not the brightest bulb...
I'd always thought invisibility would be one of the worst powers to have unless you had some ability to make things you touch invisible as well.
If you think about all the lint, dust, etc that clings to you throughout the day, you'd only be invisible for a minute or two out of the shower.
I was thinking when will Mr Boyd do the boys and i told myself he would have watched the series off camera but here we are. So excited, let's go!

One of my favorite shows
This is one of my favourite shows ever. It's completely insane. Vought the fictional company in this universe which is benefiting from the heroes btw is meant to be a parody of Disney. Homelander is this universes superman,queen maive wonder woman,a-train the flash,black noir is snake eyes(from gi joe)
Billy Butcher won't look familiar, but he's the same actor that played Eomer in Lord of the Rings

It's always fun to see someone watch the pilot and say, "Hughie's gonna be a villain," before they realize the superheroes ARE the villains.
I know this show, like the book, isn't for everyone. Most people hate on the book because they see it as too cynical and satirical and people get upset when someone takes the piss out of their favorite characters. The writer, Garth Ennis, basically just points out how silly superheroes are at face value sometimes but it's just having a dark satirical laugh as if to simply remind us, "Hey guys, this is just a comic book at the end of the day." Most people will only see the face value and find what they don't like. But they overlook all the character nuance and deeper storytelling going on. Ennis is one of the best writers at writing absolutely human moments. He writes great action scenes with a realistic grit, and writes satisfying endings. His war comics are where you see his true humanity come through in his writing. But he's always great at writing memorable characters with their own distinct dialogue. I know much of his other work is over the top at times, but I find it fun and entertaining. It pushes the envelope, doesn't compromise. It's why Ennis is called the Tarantino of comics. That's how you should read his more outlandish comics, like a Tarantino film. They're not for everyone, but the people it is intended for love it. His comics are perfect for people not used to comics. But I've read some of his stuff that's been more brutal in depicting violence than any movie or show has ever been brave enough to do. Some of his stuff makes Saw films look like Disney fare. Ennis understands the nature of human cruelty pretty well, he studies Wars in his free time. And he grew up in Belfast in the late 70s and and 80s. Things were pretty tough around there at that time. Not many Americans understand growing up with tanks rolling down your streets with bombs and civil unrest ready to go off at any moment. Sadly, we may get there yet. But I've always heard that despite how crazy the stuff he writes is, he's actually a kind and compassionate person.
This show is absolutely wild.

The series is really good as a subversion of the Superhero genre. I think it makes good commentary on how it would be like in the real world, how they would be treated like celebrities and monetized and as they are people, susceptible to corruption. The old adage of "Power corrupts...."
I'm really looking forward to see your reactions on this, I feel like its going to subvert at lot of your guesses. Also give you some shocks, it doesn't shy away from going over the top in its own style.
If it wasn't obvious. The Seven is the Justice League. Homelander is Superman, Deep is Aquaman, Maeve is Wonder Woman. Not in their backstories, but then their general representation.
The great thing about this show is the quality is consistent through the whole show. It is based on a comic / graphic novel, but does change things (actually toning down a number of things).

I absolutely love this series. I hate the cookie cutter "SUPERHEROES" that are holier-than-thou and picture perfect barring a select anti-hero types. But the polished ones that always win and have no personal flaws and won't or don't break the law or are not corrupt or would not kill someone is just ridiculous.

Yeah, this gets so so good. The show is definitively better than the source comic and has gone in a completely different direction only drawing inspiration from it. They just started a new spin-off series, Gen-V, only 4 episodes in, about college age super kids, and it's also remarkably good for spin-off series, but that comes after season 3.

One thing I've always wondered about... just... the idea of invisibility as a super power: How do they see... anything at all? Their eyes wouldn't be able to receive any light and then translate that into sight. It would just pass right on through.

I am glad that showrunners decided to basically rewrite the entire plot.
Original comics is kind of lame and lazy spite on superhero genre.
Not to mention how great majority of actors and actresses are.
It's more of an update as opposed to rewrite. The landscape of comics and hero culture has greatly expanded since the book was finished. They just incorporated all the new stuff. The themes are still the same, a biting satire of current superhero culture.
